Because he knew death was coming and wanted to have a backup plan. I thought it was explained in the manga?

To be more precise, Koinzell has a memory of Ascheritt eating an elf. Just like !Glenn has Glenn's memories. But really, I said similar, not the exact same. Koinzell doesn't even look like Ascheritt. So he could be some brand new organism with Ascheritt's memories.

I'm surprised you can even keep up with this. Every time a new chapter arises, I am at a complete loss as to what is going on =01. It doesn't help that any chapter after the last Koinzell/Ikfes spar feels so all over the place that I can't care to read at what's going on, though I still want to know what happens.

As of today, it took me 12 years to read this title from beginning to end.

Gosh, I am one amongst the first batch of people who started commenting in this thread once it was opened up back in 2007; how time went by since then.

Spoiler for Finale:

The following:

1. Three months elapsed since Ascheritt/Koinzell slaughtered Eldtrich-Glenn for good.
2. Elsaria was crowned successor Empress by the senate.
3. Rozen and Ikfes, due to their contributions at helping to secure the decisive victory for the Empire against Glenn's rebellion, each were respectively promoted to lordship, granted territories, and put at charge to supress the remaining pocket armies still loyal to Glenn that were stirring trouble.
4. It was made public throughout the Empire that Ascheritt and the other Lances of Betrayal were the true heroes of the war against Wischtech 20 years prior to the start of the plot, hence, their names, statuses, and honor were exonerated and cleansed of their bad reputation.
5. Ascheritt was promoted to lordship and granted a vast territory to rule over it.
6. Elsaria paid visit to Ascheritt's estate where it was also revealed that Ascheritt made Ato, Geranpen, and Peepi into his personal retainers.
a. BTW, the author intentionally never disclosed what Peepi's real name ever was.
7. Cut to the last three pages of the chapter in full color:
a. Ascheritt built a tiny mausoleum erecting 14 graves corresponding to the 14 youths who died in the mission from 20 years ago.
b. Elsaria (as well as the readers) was shocked to learn that Ascheritt bothered to make graves for those 7 traitors. Here, I can't tell if the author deliberately left it ambiguous or not for the readers to interpret whether Ascheritt has forgiven those seven posthumously or not.
c. Ascheritt reassured Elsaria he's at peace with himself, and that when his time comes he wishes to have his remains buried under those graves to have eternal rest.
d. Elsaria promised Ascheritt that as long as she's the Empress neither she nor anyone else in the empire would ever betray him.
e. (Final page spread) Manga ended with Ascheritt calling Elsaria to get back to work as he walked towards his friends while all 13 spirits of his deceased comrades watched over him.

The final caption of the manga delivered a very shounen vibe and feeling to the closure.

What's more disappointing to learn is that a LN with similar revenge themes and tropes in its story, and featuring extremely controversial and censoring contents as well, is actually getting an anime adaptation.

I personally very much agree with you. However that's just how things are. At this point Ubel Blatt is old and many have lost interest in it. The fact that it took it's time to wrap up didn't help either.

Ikfes, after learning what really happened to his father, now seeks revenge against Glenn and seeks to be strong enough to kill him. __________________

The first time he seem to go down for good his bespectacled female "I don't know what I should call her", I'll just say "partner", gives her life so he could get another chance to kill Koinzell, and becomes a monstrous being, there was talk before about Glenn and what he did to himself to come back(not to mention there was creepy sharp appendages that was stick out after said female got under his cape, touching him and seems like she is getting absorbed or somewhat) that leads to this grotesque form K has to kill now. Ultimately he gets cut down, and it's all finally over. I forgot the princess name, but she was talking to him about something at the graves of the real heroes that was made out to be traitors, probably about him serving under her. I don't know, I don't have experience in the language that was reading the manga under. But that's it.
