Growlanser RPG

Hey, does anyone else dig this groovy strategy RPG from Atlus? I love the artwork on the Deluxe edition, but the characters looked kind of wierd on the main screens...anyway, I guess I will play through it one day.

Releases are getting better, u reckon there are some similar games u can recommend?

I rented this game (Growlanser: Generations) 3 weeks ago not knowing anything about it. It looked new and the girl on the front looked hott, looked at the back, found out it was a tactics RPG. I said "ah, what the hell, I'll give it a shot" (I barely play RPGs, and usually traditional ones at that).

Well, I like the game. Interesting storyline. I never got that far into it but I want to continue it. There are multiple endings (has to do with your relationships with your comrades) and there's also a major story branch (I got that far).

I'd recommend renting it first, unless you're really into tactics RPGs.

The voice acting was actually bearable too! (sorry, I'm a sub enthusiast)

After I get the newest Shin Megami Tensei I'll probably get Growlanser 3, so it'll be quite a while.

Rented it, when I first looked and heard Wein's voice at Growlanser II, I was like wtf with this femine guy, even his voice also sounded like gay, feels like been ripped off because of the front box-case. (Which has a cute girl...)

But hey, after playing it for a while, it's not bad, rather good, because of the dating system I guess (yep you can date girls) , and the story is quite nice. Just play half-through, planned on buying it. Yeah.

If you have a PS or PS2 I would suggest getting the original Final Fantasy Tactics. In my opinion it set the bar for tactical rpgs and it is a bar that hasnt been touched yet. The Nippon Ichi games are cool. I think Disgaea is the best of the bunch although some people think Phantom Brave is the second coming. I havent tried it yet. I am definitely interested in Growlanser since I found out it is a tactical rpg. It was localized by Working Designs and they are a group that really loves the games they work on and it usuallly shows. If you can find it I also recommend Front Mission 4 as I thought it was one of the best tactical rpgs in years. It's right up there with the Nippon games if not better.

I've played Growlanser 2 (it's apart of Growlanser Generations for the PS2) for a few hours. I've never played 1 of this game. . Lemme tell ya about it. First off, the graphics and environments are alot like Ragnarok Online (your a 2D character surrounded by semi3D areas). It's nice. The characters. . .many of the characters are so yaoi-riffic. Your main character "Wein" (lol! too bad that in the voice acting they pronounce it "Wayne") looks like he came directly out of a yaoi manga. He wears the same type of clothes as a yaoi, has the innocent looking expression, and has the shiny yaoi-like hairstyle. Yeah, some moments to the game will make you stop and say "damn. . .that's gay." . . . but personally, I have nothing against gay people so I just think it adds to the humor.

The game is ok, I haven't been too eager to play it much.

nope, tactics advance isnt nearly as good as the original. in fact i didnt like tactics advance too much.... i only played a little of FF Tactics and i can tell u advance isnt nearly as good.

I was thinking about getting Growlanser, but it doesnt seem THAT great. Compared to that of the Nippon Ichi games and like Fire Emblem, how is it?

Get this game! It is the most fun I have had with an rpg in a while. One of the things I like most about these Grow II and II is that they are not raditional strat rpgs where you just defeat all the enemys, and it doesnt have that silly square grid system. (Yes I love FF Tactics, but I cant stand the squares) So it plays more like a traditional rpg with srpg battle system. Like I said not all missions are just to defeat all the enemies. Sometimes you must escort some chocoboo like things without losing any, sometimes you must just run from battle without killing the enemy, ANd sometimes you must beat a certain enemy to a point in the field. The varied missons are very fun, and sometimes the objectives change midway thru battle, which is sometimes cheap because a lot of times you will find yourself in a bad position to accomplish this unless you know beforehand what will happen.

Grow II is ok. It is short and sweet, the story isnt that great but you get to date the girls =p. You will want to get the multiple endings because you can import the characters that you got the endings for into Grow III.

Grow III is awesome.. The background and battle music will rmeind you of Chrono Trigger. The is also co-op magic this time around so big spells dont take as long to cast, and the some of the main characters lines that you get to choose are quite funny, like the "well, whatever beeotch!!!!". Obviosly this doesnt help you in raising the intamicy with her Grow III has a great story and much better battle system, and when you import you characters from Grow II you will have over 12+ characters to make your party of 4 (Grow II you can have 8 guys on the field at once but III you can only have 4).

But anyway buy this game! If it gets enough support they may briong over Grow IV which is supposed to be even better.

Im used to the "no grid" system. Phantom Brave has no grid

As for the missions. That sounds really fun, it's like those real time stradegy games then.
having only few characters on the field is kinda dull in my opinion tho. A stradegy rpg should have create character features and the option of having several classes.
It sill sounds incredible.

ive only played one mission of la pucelle (It is currently collecting dust, not becuz it's bad, but becuz Disgaea and PB is better) The battle system is different from most srpg games. It has a Fire Emblem feel to it as well.
I recommend Phantom Brave, the game is incredibly hard, unless u figure out a little leveling up secret. (which u may already know) That secret makes the game easier than Disgaea, but without it, it's much harder. PB will force u to create and level up tons of strong fighter becuz of the confinement system.

geee. im srry for talking so much about nippon ichi games on Growlanser thread. i just love those games.
