The part that takes some mental reconciling is... these vessels are all based on the designs of ships that we know of from the real world. But in the GuPverse... was there a regular-sized version of the Dreadnaught, Graf Zeppelin, Kiev, etc. to base the city ship on?

What sort of technology even allows for ships that huge?

I had a thought that maybe the rest of he world shrank and everything we see is like 1/72 scale except the ships which are normal sized, but that can't work. Not with everything fuctioning properly anyway.

Forerunner technology would make that possible. Super-strength composites would allow these vessels to float, and some sort of exotic power plant would propel it. It's time for me to actually watch OVA 3 and then come back with something to say

At least they don't appear to have war

[Edit] My Japanese isn't quite up to scratch: do they ever mention the ship's main power source at any point in third OVA?

In that scene, Yukari is crying more to the onions than to anything that's happened actually. It was only really in the previous scene with the tents that the girls made her cry (the nerve of them! )

I wonder what are the chances that the licensed US disc release will have the OVAs.

Ah the anticipation. Might have to crip livestream access from Twitter contacts again tonight!

And I don't recall the 2nd OVA showing up... well, anywhere. Even the first OVA showed up on youtube soon after the Blu-Ray came out.

The folks who translated the first OVA have been busy. They say they'll get to it, but they consider exams, and getting their weekly shows out to be a higher priority.

As for raw versions I've got nothing. I'm not in the know about where those things come from or where they can be found, so anyone's guess is as good or better than mine.

Is this the scene you're referring to? At least Miho's trying to tell her things are fine.

Yukari is just trying to share her hobby with her new friends... But it seems WW2 re-enactments in general is not actually as widely accepted as Senshado.

Let's face it: Yukari is living the life we all wish we had. Wake up, go to school, afterschool Tankraft practice, military reenactments...

Damn, I wish my school was as win.

My apologies for breaking the flow of things, but a little bird told me that if I were to go to the links below, I would come across a large cache of screenshots from the OVAs. There are quite a number of them (forty across the two OVAs), so I can't post them all here Naturally, spoilers follow, so click at your own discretion.

Spoiler for Off-site links to screenshots:

It is an enormously cute scene that is another Show, not Tell suggesting one reason why Miho and Yukari had trouble making friends - they lack that most stereotypically Japanese of skills, "reading the air (atmosphere)".

Yukari's mistake is obvious, but if Miho was reading the atmosphere and seeing everyone already happily setting up those WWII German tents, she'll have kept that modern tent well stowed...

Fortunately, it is Oarai, everyone is enormously nice, and the Tankery team is a bit off anyway, so it all ends well...

While it sounds good, they must ensure the safety of all passengers if someone will really move to live on it in real life.

For example:

- Do they have countermeasure in case of pirate/terrorist attack and take over the ship?
- What will they do if they found a big Strom approching?

1) A storm? Nothing. With the ship that ridiculously large, it'll ride the waves extremely well. Structural strength is a problem, but it is clear they have the super-materials to compensate. The overall experience will be a city in a storm, and for the guys working in the bowels, even less.
2) Common wisdom says there's no defense that can't be penetrated but mostly I'll pity the poor terrorists. Their job would be equal to taking over an entire city (not just a school). Assuming they have modern firefighting equipment similar to warships, if terrorists hole up in any internal compartment it can be flushed with Halon-like volumetric firefighting chemicals that will kill them without bulky, conspicuous breathing kits. Even if they do have breathing masks they will find it nearly impossible to walk as the AFFF systems flood the space with a soapy mix of water. And they'll be facing tanks with carbon armor and rounds whose only apparent "non-lethal" modification is to reduce the fragmentation component (if anything, the blast component seems increased...)

If I'm a terrorist, I'll try and find a softer belly to attack.
