The second part of the interview here confirms that the show is indeed split-cours. They're done prescoring the first cours (<3 Matsuo), and the second cours will air in October.

Childhood friend is killed right off, after an attempted confession.

This sends the MC to a berserker rage and clicked yes on a popup of Valvrave console that ask him "Do you want to resign being a human". He beat back the enemies, everyone knew it was him and wants to celebrate, but he can't save the one person who mattered. Then he was stabbed, shot multiple times, and died. But then he got back up with glowing red makings all over himself and bit his attack in the neck. You then see that his blood cells have the VVV markings...

Spoiler for Episode 1:

This is probably the first time I cried this anime with its first episode. I don't know why, but before that, the first half is a typical highschool life involving Haruto and his female best friend Shouko Sashinami, and they both currently lives in a small city located in Dyson Sphere. Suddenly the second half surprise us with a lot of mecha action and mild amount of violence, and Shouko's supposed death makes me cry a lot, and it looks like Valvrave is supposed to be a mysterious sentient mecha with a dark past, and it seems it's the female god (appearing as an avatar) who has a relation with Valvrave. I didn't even expect the ending scene involving Haruto biting L-Elf's blood as if he was a vampire. It has a good opening theme song, great character design and interesting story that could possibly progress a lot. The music feels intense and add a lot of depth between transitionning scenes. I hope we could see more what happened to Shouko as well how Haruto changes dramatically after he pilots Valvrave.

I don't know if it is a cruel joke or not, but the horrible Terms of Service agreement only appears AFTER you clicked "YES". So in short, you had to agree to the terms before you even know what the terms were.

VVV is aiming for a sense of disconnect. That's why the nearly satanic ToS is accompanied by the picture of a smiling cute girl. That's why

when the MC was stricken with grief at the loss of his girl, he was bombarded with congratulatory messages, twitter followers and friend requests. We are suppose to be uncomfortable about what we are looking at.

The Dyson sphere gives new meaning once we introduced vampires; are they still affected by natural sunlight? Is that WHY they have the sun blocked off?

Yeah that was a reaaaaaaaaally interesting way to start the series. For most of the episode it was a by the books but rather well produced classic Gundam style prologue with tons and tons of cliches. The eyecatch cliffhanger where the invasion interrupts the confession scene was ROFL. I can't believe they really did something SO cliched.

But then once the "action" started, the show started to take on a life of its own in really odd ways. I'm really glad none of it was spoiled or even hinted at in all the promo material. Being able to get surprised by a show when it airs is a real luxury these days. The post-credits sequence was right out of the Book of Twists written by Code Geass. Random, shocking, and something which makes the premise of the rest of the series really... intriguing.

Good stuff. I love how all the other mechs in the Opening Animation at the end were surprises too. Definitely reminds me of the rare times where upcoming Gundam mechs don't get leaked before they are featured in an opening or ending sequence, and fans get really excited seeing them paraded for the first time that way.

Oh, and the music was really phenomenal. Especially towards the end of the episode. SO GOOD.

You guys liked this? It was very cliche all throughout (except at the end though...)

Animation in general was good but it looks phi brainish like? The fights are good but for me MJP 3D fights still take the cake.

Story-wise though... It's like G;C. It's kinda stupid... He rides a robot then screams "MOVE! MOVE!" Look the goddamn in front of you... there's an effin screen with the yes button. It doesn't look dramatic at all. It's irritating... But when the fight started though with the zakus-I mean transformers- I mean the TIE fighters- ah... thingies, it was awesome.

All in all, not a great episode but it works.

Make sure you watch till the end.

"death," I am officially doubtful.

1. Defintiely not the kind of end you'd expect for somebody who's supposed to be so important to the main character. We didn't get any real scene of crying or wailing from Haruto. (and any Sunrise veteran knows they're experts at this, even to a fault)

2. In fact, it was way too quick, and showed way too little; we didn't see any sight nor sign that her body was actually vaporized or anything. We've seen this oh-so-many times before, especially from the very guys at Sunrise; no body, no death.

3. For such a quick-death character, she's at the top of the cast list in the credits, and at the top of the characters list on the webpage. We all know it's an unspoken rule that, unless otherwise stated (order of appearance, alphabetical, etc.), all film media lists characters in order of importance.

4. In the opening, she appears right there next to the very live other girl that's also at the top of the credits and character lists.

I'll wait until a few episodes in before I believe she's really dead. And even if she doesn't then, I still wouldn't be surprised to see her show up later in the series. This just doesn't feel like a "she's really gone" death. It feels much more like a "we're supposed to think she's dead so the main character gets moving" death

Haaa~ this was kind of "yes, yes, seen this before" until Haruto got into the robot, became weirdly and fabulously awesome after that, and then came the post-ED scene which is the best "tune in next time, too!" hook I've seen in a while. XDDD

I kind of loved how, instead of jumping into the mecha and knowing what to do, the hero almost let his mecha be destroyed wthout even fighting, because he had no idea what to do with it. XD And did I see right, Valvrave produced a scythe at one point?? XD (To say nothing of its 4 swords.)

Anyway, no comment on the story or the characters so far, although I kept giggling whenever L-Elf's little gang had a scene, the whole "enemy mini boss squad in white uniforms" kept remindig me of Incognito from Ixion Saga. XD (The seiyuu didn't help: Kaji Yuuki voices the sadist kid again, and apparently Marian and Pet switched teams... XDD) Apropos seiyuu, I'm kind of glad that Oosaka finally gets to play a mecha hero role, I just hope he won't try to emulate Ishida Akira. XD;; (In an interview last year he said he'd love to play a mecha hero like his role model Ishida Akira in Gundam Seed. XD)

And lol, L-Elf (why are they all named after letters and numbers) first stabs him and then shoots him twice for good measure. No half-assed work here, folks.

Guys, I just realized something.

This will be released in a CD Single.

CD Singles usually come with two to four different songs in it (depends on the artist).

In other words, there is AT LEAST ONE EXTRA MASTERPIECE OF THIS WONDERFUL COMBINATION COMING UP!

Now, excuse me as I die in bliss thinking about this awesome prospect....
