Gurren-Lagann licensed by Bandai Entertainment (was ADV Films)

Bandai Entertainment have announced the license for Gurren-Lagann at Comic Con 2008. Link to ANN report.

Feel free to discuss the topic in this thread. And as usual, any discussion about where to download the Gurren-Lagann anime are no longer allowed as of now.

on the one hand I guess this is good , I can watch real live DVDs without having to (pardon me) fool around with downloads etc. But it's irritating having a multi-month interruption in my following this series. And having to pay to watch it (oops did I really say that?)

ADV usually handles their products well, which is a bonus (we don't have to look forward to a dub-only release, for instance). Or at least I hope not...

Happy dance time!

Considering some of the raws/fansubs were 720p. Was it broadcast in HD?

What's the chance of a HiDef release??? C'mon people, 720p BluRay all the way!!!

The only company I know of that does dub-only releases is 4kids.

Which airs on Fox. Which would be the last place you'd want to watch anime.

As for ADV, I can't say I am happy or sad. They had done good dubs and transitions, they have also done bad ones. I will just have to wait and see what happens. Either way I wouldn't mind owning this series so that I can watch it on something other than a laptop.

Thumbs up

*applause*

My opinion of ADV has risen astronomically since the licensing of Utawarerumono last year - previously I had had a rather low view of the company from it's "fan" origins and looked down on their (in my view) relatively poor dub quality.

While I affirm their dubs are still not strong (as Underwater Ray Romano provided testimony thereof) their willingness to listen to fan feedback was admirable, and their rates are relatively low.

Not to mention GL in ADV's hands pretty much means this show has escaped the ire of the mainstream moepedos and hyperactive kiddies, which is both good and bad I suppose.

Of all the companies, including FUNimation, I was hoping ADV would aquire GL and I'm very pleased to hear they got it. It's a gold mine with unfortold riches waiting in its uncharted depths to be refined.

Hmmm, I may have to buy this one .... do they have a release date yet?

I am a bit annoyed that they didn't wait for series broadcast completion ... but then I suppose that's extra risk on their part if the plot implodes later in the series.

Hmmm... Well... ADV sure picked a good one, didn't they? And I was thinking Luci Christian would make a perfect Yoko if it weren't for the fact most of her voices sound incredibly whiny or bitchy.

I can only be happy by this if they get Chrispen Freeman to do Viral, that'd just be fun to listen to.

Man, ADV is going to get a lot of money from me in the upcoming months!

I hope they go all out with the dub, and I'd like to see the dvd box be a miniature Lagann.

R2 DVDs are virtually always mastered from the DVD versions so unless they wimp out and edit (which they've also never done that I know of) -- ep 6 should be safe as it was intended to be seen.

I knew ADV would take Gurren Lagann since they took Eva from Gainax why not another super robot anime? Wonder if the series would still be fan subed to it's final episode? Hope they make it before it get's licenced

But I can't wait for the DVD (deleted scenes, extra features...etc) like the DVD Eva had. Most especially Ep.6
