Side note - Ichika and Irish in shadow seem to be opposite in knowledge. Ichika is book dumb but is very good with making laymans terms and is very hands on and social. Irish is knowledgeable about electronics and strategy but is a dunderhead when it comes to social situations. Both of them do have something in common; They're dumbasses when it comes to romance.

Which manual? The Thick one he reads with Madoka's help after the tournament.

He got a second, 40 pages manual regarding ByakuShiki upgrade (though he understand it easily). Char actually stole and scanned the second manual for useful data in chapter 11...

Presea was a normal healthy girl, growing up with her parents and brother in some countryside house like most countryside people, living the normal life and in awe of the fad known as IS.

But at the age of 6, a terrible incident occurred which changed her life forever. Thieves broke into their house and what was supposed to be just a ransacking of a house turned into a hostage drama, with the end result being very grave- thieves dead at the cost of her parents and her lower mobility- as the bullet that killed her mother managed to hit part of her spinal cord, paralyzing her from the waist down. Left without parents, Presea and her brother were adopted by relatives, which then tried hard to at least return them to some sense of normalcy. As for the injury, the bullet was removed, but the spinal cord suffered so much damage that an operation that was used to restore partial mobility to paraplegics may not even be successful, as well as being expensive.

Eventually, the relatives’ efforts were successful, somehow restoring the siblings back to a certain norm. Left to the wheelchair, Presea became undaunted and turned her energies to more productive things, such as learning electronics and mechanics- in fact, by the time she was about 8, she was able to fix most of the electronic and mechanical problems in the house and neighbors- earning her the moniker “The Sacred Mechanic” by the neighbors and the district. She also started developing her voice, eventually able to join local singing contests and win them.

It was via perseverance that she managed to do well in school and that her technical prowess was now hungry for more- the only thing left that was accessible to her reach was the IS- the peak of all technical knowledge of the time. It was decided by the family that she would try enrolling in the IS academy and try to acquire a technical scholarship- despite the general conception of the range of qualified people. Somehow, despite all the perceived odds, she was actually accepted- as she had a rather high IS sync rate and given a Technical Scholarship, on the condition that she would work for the IS Academy as an IS support mechanic.

But...
Academy life for a non-representative with no effective wealth whatsoever was the hard reality. She was at the mercy of her classmates who were better off or nationally sponsored, becoming a sort of hand and foot to them- despite her disability- but commonly they just leave her alone, seeing as not to waste time with someone like her. But on the bright side, her academic skills bounce her back from anonymity.

Despite the hardship, she managed to keep herself in “top form” in everything except IS usage, as her disability basically barred her from using the Standard Uchigane Unit- a special modified frame for paraplegics had to be made- and Presea herself designed the basics for the modification- but it was ungainly as she had to basically learn how to walk.

This was relatively the norm- until one day during a break from a briefing in her extracurricular activity- which is being an assisting mechanic, she was caught singing beside a unit that was brought in by a company called C’rnadyne for evaluation- well normally a girl singing beside an IS during her break is nothing illegal, but then the unit that she near at was...

Half of I.S. academy student are from Japan and not all of them are royalty or rich people, does that mean that the one bullying Presea is other foreign snob like Cecilia (used to be)?

LOUISE. I gotta stop thinking of JEANNE / Joan.

And this was what I was thinking of... except Louise is a mentor to much of the St@rs during the early days, until her betrayal.

Will Karon be able to befriend her again? I guess I'll leave that for season 2.

@ Eratas: Something like this:

Kyuukai sat in the science lab, carrying hazardous chemicals as he worked an experiement. With a bit of work, he would do it! Create a physical fuel that had the same output of an IS core! He could do it!

Now, all he had to do was pour the insane amount of potassium carbonate into the suspicious green liquid made of a few dozen different chemicals. Little by little, until the liquid turned as pink as the old medicine that was still popular, some north american thing called Pepto Bismol.

He carefully poured a bit of potassium into the chemical.

"Whacha doin?"

He flinched as a girl suddenly appeared by his side like some ghostly apparition. "Karon!?" He stammered.

"Whacha up to?"

"Shoo! Go away!" He said, swinging an arm at her.

"But I want to know whatcha up to!"

Then he dropped the rest of the potassium carbonate into the chemical. ALL of it.

"HIT THE DECK!" He tackled the girl to the floor as the world around him exploded.

When the dust cleared, Karon stood up, not even injured, looking around. Then she prodded the unconcious young man sprawled like a ragdoll on the floor. His arm was broken in three places, but he'll live.

She rolled him over gently. Then she tried to think of a way to get him to the clinic...

Not willing to be outdone by other companies, C’rnadyne Technologies, having just acquired Prototech LLC (Makers of the Metatron IS unit) began to create its own Prototypes, with the intent of eventually making a MP model for general sale. Under the guidance of their head engineer and CEO, L’lin P’jilner, and using technologies that they developed, [CT] began to create their own conceptual IS- though the result have ended up quite unexpectedly. Take note that the Revatlos has some rather strange features. First of all, the IS is seemed to be “fueled”, as evidenced by a rather large crystal being slowly “consumed” on the back of the unit. This is due to the fact that most of the IS’ systems consume considerable amounts of energy- more than what an IS Core can pump out at maximum. Only C’rnadyne knows the reason why the systems are power hungry, or the exact kind of “fuel” the IS uses, called “Tranquility” by the company. The OS of the IS is also custom-made, allowing it to install and run combat applications whenever needed- these applications are stored in USB Memory Sticks which are then connected to a hidden USB dock within the IS- the arrangement is such that the pilot cannot usually exchange them while in combat. The extensive shielding that the unit has is also worth mentioning, because as of current, the IS has the largest pool of Shield Energy ever amassed in a single IS- rumors pump it up to a staggering 1Million Effective Hitpoints. All these features suggest that the core of the IS is not in fact a Listed Core or even a “typical” IS Core (most of the unregistered cores are also copies of the Original Core so it is labeled as “typical”)- it is in fact unknown if the unit even has something that can be called an “IS Core”, C’rnadyne refuses to comment on the matter. Spoiler for Revatlos Primary Capability: The Revatlos specializes in “fullback defense and support”, which is a relatively new concept in IS- in RPG Terms, the unit is basically the “Buffer” of the party. It does this by activating a special set of modules called “Warfare Command Links”, or just “Links”, basically “devices” that boost the group overall in terms of performance. There are 5 types with 3 kinds each, each with a specific effect to the group. Spoiler for Types and Kinds: > Armored: One of the least used types, this set deals with the physical defense of the group. - Damage Control: This Link basically protects the group’s IS units from extensive armor damage, as well as pilot harm. - Passive Defense: Increases the toughness of the armor of the group’s IS units. - Rapid Recovery: Enables the IS units in the group to recover from armor damage. > Information: Not often used, this set deals with Sensory and EWar capability. - Electronic Superiority: Increases the effectiveness of any EWar module in the group. - Recon Operation: Increases the effectiveness of the Group’s Hyper-Sensors. - Sensor Integrity: Increases the Group’s resistance to EWar. > Siege: The most used of the sets, this set deals with the shielding of the group. - Shield Harmonics: Increases the Toughness of the IS Shielding. - Active Shielding: Enables the group’s IS shields to recover and also increases the effectiveness of any Shield Transferring (Houki, that means YOU). - Shield Efficiency: [Information Withheld due to lack of “qualified people”.] > Skrimish: Also used often, this set deals with navigation (movement, maneuverability) capability. - Evasive Maneuvers: Increases the maneuvering factor of all IS in the group. - Rapid Deployment: Increases the efficiency of speed boosting modules on any of the group’s IS. - Interdiction Maneuvers: [Information Withheld due to lack of “qualified people”.] > Actual: Used often, this set boosts the offensive performance of the group. - Melee Force Multiplier: Increases the damage of any melee weapon. - Ranged Attack Efficiency: Increases the fire rate of guns and launchers, as well as improving energy spending on ranged energy weapons. - One-Off Booster: The so-called EX Booster- basically boosts the group’s One-off attacks while active. Can only be used once per battle and with authorization. The Revatlos can activate all modules if needed, but with a corresponding increase in the consumption of its Tranquility Fuel. But... So far no one has even managed to activate a single Link- out of the hundreds of prospects that come in every day. C’rnadyne has moved its search to the IS Academy, where the Links are now showing signs of reaction... Somewhere in the IS Academy, the Revatlos’ user is there. Spoiler for Revatlos Bonus Capability: It sometimes carries tools that can field repair an IS, just in case the damage is too much for the on-board repair systems to work on at the moment. This capability is actually the ability to “cast offensive magical spells” at the enemy- considering that no one on the planet believes in the existence of magic, it is not surprising that this ability was reported as a rumor. C’rnadyne refuses to comment about this.
