She was left off intentionally, thank you very much. It would have been superfluous anyway. In Japanese literature, there aren't any non-oniicon imoutos. I did forget someone though:

I like this. It doesn't fail the "obvious fanfic theory justification" test, and it actually makes sense, in a creepy, twisted, perfectly fitting way. This is my new favorite Canopy Domain/Kuyoh theory, until (dis)proven or a better one comes along.

Personally I got the distinct impression from that scene that she was trying to sock him (with fingers brought together in a knife-like jab, apparently, so I don't know if "sock" is the right word) in the back of the head. She just planned to go through his face to do it.

I like this theory too. While I was reading the chapter I felt that Kuyoh was smiling simply because she observed others doing it. She didn't have enough context to understand the meaning of the smile. Same with her cocking her head to the side earlier. She's mimicing behaviours she observes in order to fit in.

Perhaps the Canopy Domain consciously or unwittinigly understands the idea of growing outside one's supposed limits in order to improve. While the IDTE interfaces are designed to strictly observe and stay within their bounds, the Canopy's approach might be the exact opposite as Kuyoh constantly absorbs new data and adapts to the changes. Asakura and Nagato are both somewhere between those extremes.

After all, Sasaki did note how she seemed to lack a sense of self individualism, and its curious on why Kuyoh needs another Interface in order to progress.

Good point. I'll be interested to see how that develops too. As for plot Alpha, I was hoping for a bit more interplay, but I'm assuming that will come in later chapters when the plots really begin to intertwine and Tanigawa flexes his muscles on the plot. So far, Sunday and Monday pretty were pretty much empty, which doesn't give us much insight on what's happening.

The obvious answer to that is that she's not necessarily an interface. Or at least not in the same sense that Nagato and Asakura are. As we've seen, there's a lot of politics and dissenting opinions and whatnot within the IDSE, which implies a certain level of socialness or mutual interactivity. Kuyoh may not have anything like that at all. She may be the entirety of the Canopy Domain itself or may not realize that it exists and is on her own. Or something else. There's no reason to believe that her side works at all similarly to the IDSE.

We have one, but it hasn't been used in over a year, since this thread has been effectively a spoiler-centric thread, since there hasn't been any new novel material...until now. And of course if we move back over to that thread, the newbs who haven't read everything yet (all one or two of them on this forum) won't have anywhere to discuss it, or at least no one to discuss it with. I think we've probably got enough active threads already, since there's really only two things to talk about right now(Disappearance movie and Sneaker sneak).

I've been following this thread for a few weeks and I finally decided to sign up (I'm usually on MyAnimeList, but their threads about Haruhi, especially the novels, aren't nearly as active as this one).

And about the Sneaker preview...

I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. But am I the only one who thinks that Kyon thinks that Haruhi might be getting a tiiiiny bit suspicious about Yuki's illness. I don't know why, but I feel like something is going to come up in this volume where Haruhi discovers something that she shouldn't - it is called "The Surprise" of Haruhi Suzumiya after all, and with Sasaki and the anti-SOS Brigade walking around, there's a lot more that needs to be hidden from her than ever before. I really don't know if I want that to happen or not, or if it's even likely.

And I know there wasn't much for the supposed slider in this chapter, but am I mistaken in recalling that there were a few instances of unexplained phenomena in past stories, like who put together the movie in "The Sigh" and didn't Haruhi supposedly see someone on the stairs when Kyon fell down them in "The Disappearance"? Am I alone in suspecting that the slider is connected to at least one of these? Or maybe it's some yet-to-be-mentioned character ~_^

Oh, and Mikuru's only dialogue in this chapter is saying yes to Haruhi =P

As for the first part, I wouldn't be "surprised" at all if beta!Haruhi figures everything out this book. In fact I suspect it's the primary meta reason why the author introduced a second timeline, being that it allows him to have an irreversable event occur without making the story irreversably changed. He can have the "big reveal", and maybe even set beta!Kyon up to "get the girl" or do all kinds of stuff we'd never normally see, and then wipe it all out at the end when the beta!verse is invalidated somehow (Earth is blown up to make way for a hyperspace bypass or some such).

As for the unexplained circumstances... With the movie editing, there are any number of reasons ranging from Itsuki bringing in someone to do it unbeknownst to the others, to spontaneous creation by Haruhi; and a mystery "other person" is certainly a possibilty. As for "who pushed Kyon", it was most likely either a memory manipulation done on Haruhi, or it was Yuki. Either way, it can safely be said that Yuki "caused it" with the question being open as to whether the "falling down the stairs" ever really happened.

Given that the apparent new member of the SOS-dan is currently in the alpha story, isn't it more likely that the beta version will be the one kept while the alpha one is destroyed? I mean, in order to be a slider she has to travel between the worlds. It's kind of meaningless to present two worlds if the slider isn't going to participate in both.

Yes, that was what I was trying to get at. The Canopy Domain understands the concept of the first person (I/we), but NOT the second person (you), which thus gives Kuyoh some similarities to a person with autism (my brother is autistic, by the way).

Regarding who finished the movie, if the PSP game "The Promise of Haruhi Suzumiya" (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yakusoko) is taken as canon, it was Big Mikuru who brought the finished version of the movie back in time from a later date and uploaded it to the computer while Kyon and Haruhi slept.
