Don't waste even more forum space by double posting... AND whining about the direction which the thread has taken.

Personally, I think that the way the manga ended off before the gaiden was made in such a way that the manga can get well ahead of the anime again.. by providing the storyline space for filler to be created... unlike how they just put it in after the invasion arc.

I also believe that the anime team was told to hint that Lee already had the surgery so it would be more believable when he comes back to save Naruto later. I know alot of manga readers felt like Lee was added into the fight without an adequete explaination of how he recovered so fast..... and that it was too secretive.

But... it seems too forced this way too... who knows.

Back to the original topic, think about it for a minute. Was anyone really surprised that Lee's operation was successful? We all knew he'd get better after he agreed to be operated on(which was in the manga, shortly after Sasuke left). The surprise in the manga was that Lee was back in action already(which will still be a surprise considering his condition in this episode), and that he showed up to save Naruto. The anime team hasn't spoiled any of that. The only "surprise" they've spoiled is the result of his operation, and I don't think there was ever any serious question about that.

The surprise was that he even had the operation.. we just saw him before they left.. but they never said anything about him having the operation.

EDIT: For me that was the surprise.

I dont feel they messed it up. Although they did say that his surgery is a success, the SACs (Strictly Anime Crew) won't expect him to be freaking Rock Lee taijutsu specialist in the same day. Because remember, from here on out, since 110-111 episode aired, this will all happen in the same day.

And thus we move into the longest day ever

Alot of things were pointing towards Lee taking the surgery and - like Zek already explained - it was quite probable that the surgery would be a success. There is not much of a surprise here but I bet noone expected Lee popping out of nowhere to interfere in a fight.

I beg to disagree. IMO the time when the space time continuum was compressed the most was during the 5 minutes that the Goku vs Freeza battle lasted

His conversation with Tsunade in Chapter 184 makes it pretty obvious that he's going through with it.

If anything, his instant recovery will be even more of a surprise in the anime than the manga. In the manga, we didn't know how difficult it would be for Lee to recover from his operation. In the anime we're flat out told that he can't even climb a flight of stairs, but later that day he's going to be fighting again? I don't think that's easily predictable from this episode.

i beg to differ my friend, when lee anounced that he was going to take the surgery in the manga and then we didnt see him for a long time there was SERIOUS doubt if the surgery would be succesful if you search for old manga disscusions and the like this topic comes up all the time. i think the anime spoiled this terribly they should have left it the way the manga had it.

Is this the same day, i thought that it could have been more than a day, although now that i think about it, its dawn when they leave and night time when kakashi picks up naruto, so yeah one day. although the worst was like someone mentioned the supposed 5 minutes in which the 20 episode goku vs. freeza fight took place. that was horrible.

Yeah, the manga does leave room for a lot of filler. Hopefully the anime team will make it good filler. =) Anyway, Naruto is also going to be going through a lot of training, same with the other ninjas in Konoha after they get better.

. . .

I'm just excited about seeing an older version of Naruto and the rest of the group =D It should be great.

And getting back on topic, I don't think that the surprise was "ruined" per se, but it was given more grounding. It'll still be really cool when Rock Lee enters the fight against Kimimaro. ^_^ I can't wait to see it.

About fillers, they could do something about what Shino was experiencing on his mission with his father. Maybe he wont do that great of a main character of a story though, since he's so quiet.
But I'm dying to find out what they were up to...! ^^

I just re-read some of the manga, and I guess what bothers me most was that we didn't know what was going on at all when it happened. One issue Lee jumps in to help Naruto, and in the next one Gai barges into the Hospital gasping for air and asks Tsunade whether the surgery was a success or not.

*shrug* I guess he can still do that, since he was "on a mission" at the time, but it's just going to seem kind of out of place for him to be wondering about that when we found out the result 20 episodes earlier.

I find this pretty screwy since it was sooo cool to see Lee jump in while everyone still thought he was undergoing surgery, they really did screw this up
