The baby Konata is approaching godliness with the chipper smile and cute pajamas. Who would have known she'd grow up to be the sarcastic and Muuuu faced Lucky Star with that harmless looking face. Also her mother really really looks like her. How could something so tiny and harmless like her mother just up and die without any good explanation. She looks pretty healthy. Unless she got infected with the Key/Visual Arts Virus that seeks out and kills innocent characters in horrible and unlikely ways to evoke pathos. I hate that virus.

I am not even sure they explained in the manga how Konata's mother died, it could be anything from a disease to an accident. If they have not explained, I'd assume that Konata and her father decided to move on and not dwell on it (as seen in one episode with the way Konata told the twins about her mother).

I showed this to Risaa and she didn't laugh her head off so I'll share.
Its a very rough preliminary sketch (what i call "idea sketch") for a drawing of Kagami cosplaying as Etona (a character from Disgaea). yeah, there are things wrong with it or incomplete (eyes suck, some of long lines are off, no adornments or straps) and it scanned extremely lightly. I'll post v2.0 after I tinker with it a lot. I haven't decided whether it works better for her to be smiling, blushing, or angry. Trying a new image file server so bear with me here... Imageshack still breaks when I try to upload.

I also cook I know how to make okonomiyaki and taiyaki (yes, I have the molds).
I don't knit... my wife knits. I make chainmail, which she calls "industrial knitting". I've sketched and doodled since I was a kid (when I was 12 I drew an entire comic book --- a very lame sci-fi starship story). I took drafting in high school. After that my engineering/software career slurped up all the creative juices though once every few years I get the urge to draw again... usually when my career sucks creatively. I blame Risaa for my recent awakening from sketching coma I'll be completely honest and reveal I had a model who posed for me. Etona (a figurine) guards my house server so i had something to look at while i drew. Kagami is structurally somewhat similar to her so it was not a hard makeover.

(offtopic, duh )
I've tried two kinds of ahn .... I call them "crunchy" and "smooth", both good but I kind of like the partially mashed one better. I've tried the sweetened peanutbutter and the shrimp paste. The PB was a bleh..... the shrimp paste actually was pretty good but took it totally out of the snack arena. Also tried lemon custard (spurt).... good but messy. I have not tried choco yet... mostly because I'm kind of burned out over the years on chocolate but also because I'm not quite sure what kind to use.

Critique: The legs/feet are reversed on her body. From what I can tell she's looking over her shoulder with her butt facing us, but the legs/feet are facing the 4th wall. They should be facing away from the 4th wall, and the right foot is a bit awkward as well. That's the only major issue I see with it. |

I was reading your post and thinking "what in the hell is he talking about?" (looks at pic)
Oh.... you've mistaken a skirt color line for a butt line. Those two lines on the skirt ... delinates a center flap (grey) over her tummy and a side panel on each hip (purple). That's her navel just above the skirt line. She's looking over her left boob at the camera, her hips are angled but her pelvis is facing the camera. Her right leg and foot is directly facing the camera, and her left leg is stanced so she's standing kind of pigeon-toed. Well.. like I said it was an idea sketch so a lot of detail is completely ignored. I can see how one might interpret it the way you did though That's very interesting, I can completely see how you might interpret it that way... Was just trying to get a feel for what it would take to do it more carefully (makes a note to shade the hip panels so it makes sense later) That took about.... 20 minutes I think. Sketching from a reference doesn't take anywhere near as long as sketching without.

Taiyaki is offtopic! >.<'' Bean paste is off topic! >.<'' I am off topic >.<'''' I blame Risaa entirely. Wait- give me some time to piece myself together again... I'd find something to say, I'm sure about it .__. |

Vexx: Okay I see it now, then these are my comments ;x
The LEFT leg/foot are turned in at an impossible angle, and I think her turning her torso is also at a slightly impossible angle ... little too far towards the 90 degree mark. What I like to do is act out the pose I want myself, preferably in the mirror. That way you can get a better mental picture of how far you can twist and what it will look like etc. Otherwise if you have a digital camera -- pose and take a time-delayed picture of yourself. It's quicker and easier than trying to use a program like Poser IMHO. |

Thanks for the inputs (but they had me laughing a bit)
1) I'm not a young girl, it is physically impossible for me to jut my pelvis forward, angle it, and stand with my foot turned in like they do with their impossible flexibility. (Actually the wife-unit, who is apparently boneless, can stand that way but she refuses let me take a picture of her doing it). 2) I'm using a figurine model for a reference. Admittedly she's a bit surreal and I think her knee is a touch offline to her shin so your left limb remarks I think are well-targeted. I'll tinker with that. 3) The last time I messed with drawing (years ago) I snagged a copy of Poser but always found the body positioning "wrong" or mannequin-like --- I think the software has that "uncanny valley" problem ... so I put it away.
