Personal thought about romance anime, probably inappropriate...
well you've been warned.
should i feel like "half a fag" for liking romance anime? they're obviously not targeted towards guys. just watched 23eps of "Da Capo" as well as both "Onegai Twins" and " " Teacher" recently. before that was "Chobits." I'm 1 of the few guys that liked Fushigi Yuugi. maybe it's cause i don't have a g/f that i'm attempting to live vicariously through the main male protagonists.' most of them are about a guy around my age surrounded by beautiful women throwing themselves at him (i think that's just about every guys' fantasy). i find i'm getting bored w/ other anime but look foward to watching romance anime somewhat. though when i watch them it's slightly depressing i have no 1 to share those same feelings the anime characters have. might also be coupled w/ the fact i feel detached from the xmas festivities this season. i should be happy/grateful, all that good stuff but that train of thought just leads back to my initial feeling and compounds it. "rrrraaggghh, i should be watching nascar, football, etc, something manly, not this "faggy sh*t" " sometimes crosses my mind (as un-PC as it is) i'd go on but it'd probably start becoming scary... or should i have stopped at the first paragraph? just ranting cause i needed something to keep me occupied and awake btw, if anyone has suggestions on other romance anime, i'd love to hear em |

Why is it that every time a man is doing something emotional he's authomatically called gay or a fag etc. etc.
I like Chobits, Love Hina and such. all romance and all that good stuff. There's nothing wrong with that. I have a great girlfriend, and that doesn't make me less emotional or anything. So don't be ashamed for seeing romance anime. |

I know your pain. The other day my little sister made fun of me for watching Sailor Stars
Shows like that are actually designed to be appreciated by both sexes. It's quite similar to how most shonen anime features bishonen characters to appeal to the women. Like for example most guys can watch Get Bakers and they'd be like OMG hawt baking action! and the girls would be like OMG HAWT BAKER ON BAKER ACTION! The show appeals to both sexes, just on a different level. Shoujo shows often feature stuff other then love taht often appeals to men, such as Fanservice, action, and a story. Since love is something that both sexes expericnce shouldn't it only be natural for both sexes to appreciate it? |

I'm almost singularly interested in romance anime and manga, as well as the infamous "hentai" Bishoujo games (though I dislike hentai anime). Just yesterday my sister visited and commented on the 14 volumes of Love Hina in my shelf. "YOU read something with the word "love" in the title?" and stuff like that. Like so many other anime illiterates, the first thing that pops into her mind is porn. Whoopee....
I don't think I'm gay. I like both Onegai series, Da Capo and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. I cried after playing Kana and Private Nurse, when playing Final Fantasy 7 and X, probably several other games and anime series I can't remember, and I'm not afraid to admit it either. Am I somehow not entitled to my feelings just because I'm a guy? No, I think liking romance anime is a much healthier sign than only liking series that contain violence, blood and gore.

As a guy.. i enjoy dramatic animes like Chobits, Fruits basket, KgNE...
i don't see anything particularly homosexual about these shows. now.. if Taka and Shinji started making out.. that'd be a different story ; )

I think you can only be gay if you feel attracted to the same sex..
Keitaro is NOT what I feel attracted to THAT way.... Being emotional doesn't make you less man or more woman. I think being all interested in love and romance makes you a better person, for you can love in a way and are not all that jazz about men and the bad words we get. Yes we men CAN feel emotions, and now I need a beer because I'm thirsty, not because some lame ass football game is on, because I couldn't give a damn about it.. nuff said.. |

i just think your fag-percentage is much much lower than 50%. and some of the anime you mentioned comes from h-games, which targeted male audience, so it's only natural you watch and like Da Capo. the original concept was just so GUYS would like it. and if you're having a hard time finding a girlfriend, go for the ones that like hard-core action series, you'd make a nice couple, and you can fill her in on stuff, and vice versa.
in btw. the faces. they're awsome. |

But there's something for everyone when it comes to anime. To each his own. You shouldn't feel bad that you like things that are considered "feminine". Things like watching romance anime, feeling empathy for female characters, and crying when bambi dies don't make you any less of a man. Well, maybe the crying when Bambi dies part. I liked Love Hina, Fruits Basket, Chobits, Ai Yori Aoshi (which is like a grown up Love Hina), Rizelmine (which is really cute and funny) and other romantic animes. My favorite animes lie between genres, like Great Teacher Onizuka and Naruto. |

i only found out recently DC was targeted towards males. read my sig...
thanks for replies. actually my fav anime of recent memory (probably not of all time but right up there) is kare kano (till eps 12 anyway). love hina was cool. fruits basket, i dunno, seemed more to be friendship than romance. or at least just beginning stages of romance. maybe "fag" was the wrong word, effeminite would be more appropriate. i like GTO, naruto, all that. action, blowing stuff up, blood n' gore is all good. just seems that lately i've been steering more towards the romance stuff. i don't typically dwell on this but this yr. this season, i'm being alot more introspective than before and this topic comes up in my daily musings. |

I also like romance anime, myself. mostly cause I like all kinds of anime and movies too. Yeah, Nenmaster, I also watch chick flicks along with all the action movies, etc I watch. I dunno. I just watch pretty much everything. All genres etc. I think I appreciate in both real life and entertainment the experience of a good romance with a lady. I guess it's kind of living vicariously through the male characters as Stingray mentioned. By the way, anybody else here like Bend it like Beckham? Quote:

I like the "hentai" as a spicy addition, not as the main dish.
