EDIT: 00 turned out not to be the Gundam series that'd really be among the top of the top in my eyes like Zeta or THAT series. Nevertheless, it is a decent show and deserves some decent treatment. I'm just waiting till I got more money and buy Dynames or Plutone, or MG Exia if it comes out till then |

Well I wouldn't mind another Seed Series per se as long as they can find a Director/Writer duo who know what they're doing and a more exciting protaganist. Also no ZZ for source material and they'd have to retcon much of what went on in Seed Destiny past about episode 11. Once that Juna character with his constant hysterical bugging out showed up the series kind of set it's tone of goofing around for 20 or so episode until finally organizing a semblance of a plot around episode 33. Of course by then it was too late and we got the rushed ending. There were also so many character moments that just made no sense at all that the majority of Destiny really just needs to be ignored if they are going to have any possibility of pulling a good story out of a possible 3rd series.

As for the next series, i just hope that 00 makes enough money for the second season not to be given up. With such well-set 25-episode background, I can see some nice character development coming. And not wasted like in THAT show |

Actaully, I think part of the problem with model sales was the suits they were focusing on were nothing more than redo's of the suits from the first series with a little bit extra. People just didn't see the need to buy new.
I don't see G00 being as big as GS, but that is because I don't see it having the wide appeal range that GS did. But for what it does do, I think it does it well and is doing fine for what it is. Sure the DVD sales haven't been like it's predecessor, but that's what you get with a more serious plot line. It's still up there in the DVD rankings, so I don't see it doing badly and there hasn't been any indication that the series has been considered to be failing in any regard so far.

As for DVD sales, I personally expect them to bonce up near the end as the story in 00 is finally past its build up and is onto the real juice. A story with a good base tends to lead to great things. |

At least 00 seems to have higher model kit sales compared to Seed Destiny, probably that will keep Bandai satisfied

On another news, Geass's reruns on Mainichi Broadcasting is rating an average of 3.9%, not much less than 00's 4.7%. Seed and Seed Destiny got viewerships of 7.4% and 6.0% respectively on Mainichi (and other stations in the Kansai region). I think we have another case of Gundam X here, with the overshadowing by Wing and Eva being replaced by Seed and Geass...

These numbers make absolutely no sense to me. There seems to be no correlation between a good series to good sales ... but then again my taste probably don't represent the average Japanese buyer. Where the hell is bebop or evangelion or kenshin? i dont even like evangelion but you cant deny they were insanely popular and they dont even make the list? Is this list based on a certain channel / studios etc? |

I guess it just depends moreso on taste. A lot of people seem to adore Lucky Star and Haruhi because of their otaku jokes.I couldn't stomach just a few episodes of either series, but I guess the Japanese viewers like it apparently because both rank high on the list so meh. As for the 3 you listed. They are fairly old compared to the major list. All 3 were created and ran primarily through the mid,to late 1990's.In an era where DVD's weren't "In" yet. |

That list you're referring to is for DVD sales, which is still a fairly new invention (no offense to Blu-ray), so older shows don't seem to make the list.

I hardly would relate Gundam00 to GundamX just yet. It still comes in at 7th on that chart, which is not too shabby. And probably some people were a bit reluctant at first, fearing Gundam00 might be another TurnA as far as breaking from the traditional Gundam story goes. It still has the pretty boys to pull in the female fans like previous Gundam shows, and the mecha designs have grown on me. I really like the Flag Fighter and Exia.
I honestly can't predict how the Japanese fans will react to the show as it continues, but I have been impressed with the last couple episodes. I was initially dismayed at some of the earlier happenings with them constantly letting Ali and the other main antagonists get away, but they aren't pulling many punches with the main characters so far. I wonder how far off that list Eureka7 appears, actually. Since I felt that was another show where initially it starts a little slow, but pours on steam throughout the show and by the end is one of my all-time favorites for interesting world design and overall character development. Making a little comment on the Seed universe: Stargazer proved that the Seed universe could still produce some excellent stories if a director other than Fukuda is put in charge and they take it more seriously. |
