Finally watched it.
Now as expected, some parts from the blackjack scene were cut, namely the elaboration on how the first dealer draws out and strings along his prey and as such, the tension from the match against the first dealer wasn't as high as it was originally. The one with Ashley though...is actually pretty well done. They managed to illustrate well, the point about Balot's rebirth against her fate. Amazing Grace plus the final even money beating the One-Eyed Jack is a fitting climax indeed. Too bad they cut out Balot's tormenting of Shell as she returned the golden chips. That would have been fun to watch

Spoiler for third exhaust:
This was a great series of films though. The casino scenes in particular were amazing and I'm just sad that I'm not very versed in blackjack to fully enjoy this final one. I should really get down to rewatching all the movies though, there's plenty from the first two that I don't recall particularly well.

Just finished watching all 3 movies, and I have to say that I enjoyed it fairly well =03. Honestly I didn't understand what was going on at first, and it took til the end of the 1st movie to get into the swing of things, but after that, the plot moved steadily forward. The relationship between Balot and Euf was the most enjoyable part of the films. Many aspects of these films reminded me a lot of Key The Metal Idol(if you've seen the OVA series, you should know what I'm specifically referring to =03), and I can also see the resemblance to GitS, at least in terms of the action(which was pretty good when it came), though I'm not too familiar with that series.
I expected the poker match to be boring, but the whole casino arc was fairly intriguing, with the psychological aspects thrown in(reminds me of Akagi/Kaiji, even though the despair is much different between those two and MS). The end felt kind of bittersweet, though I can't say why; at the very least, it felt like Balot was able to get over her past, if only a little bit, so I suppose it ended as best as this could get.

I'm feeling uneasy of the thought that there is something romantic(or almost) going on between those two....(in movie, manga, and novel) |

First off, those two are bonded literally by Balot's snarc and Oeufcoque's abilities. She can literally force her control over him if she wants to just like how Boiled used him to breaking point in the past. It is because of him that she is able to be reborn again Then also they are both very alike. Both are healing again fom past trauma that have broken them. In a way, the whole story is about their rebirth which was brought about due to each other. I don't know what romantic love means to most but Balot does love Oeufcoque deeply. It isn't so strange also...remember that kid and his dolphin companion back in Combustion? Physical coupling between augmented humans and animals exist here. Then in Exhaust you have how Oeufcoque tended to Balot's wounds and followed her when she experienced Shell's memories In short....to say it is the same as a simple relationship is not really hitting the mark. It's more like their love is to the point of them being one and yet two discrete entities (I think that's what you call soulmates?)

Ah so you mean...like deep friendship or a brother sister bond, like Eugeo and Kirito...or perhaps, Gon and Killua's bond? haha you can call me a shallow person...it's just that I don't think I can handle it(much like when I first saw Dog & scissors). |

Killua and Gon are friends. Really good best friends, but their relationship clearly fit in that mold well enough.
When it comes to Balot and Oeufcoque things can't be defined so easily. Balot clearly feels more than friendship towards him, and I think he eventually reciprocates those feelings, whatever they are.
