Also, in NMM you can sort out which mods should be loaded first; usually the BOSS (and Wrye Bash -- I've yet to try that) utility helps sort it out, and then fine-tune the load order in the manager.

This isn't the first time Bethesda has copied popular or convenience mods that were on the Nexus before. Fallout 3 is a good example of that.
See, the thing is, Bethesda likely would never be able to bring true fan moding to consoles. So for all intent and purposes these DLCs are the only way they could support their Xbox and Sony customers. So I can't blame them.

Heard that Bethesda is hitting a serious issue with putting DLC on PS3 Skyrim. They actually said that they are "not sure" if the issue could be solved. That doesn't sound good. It might be that PS3 has hit its limits just to barely run the game, and that there is no way to add DLC that wouldn't crash the whole thing. The pessimism is really unusual.

In fact, I predict there might never BE any DLC for PS3. A sad state of affairs, but there you go. PS3 is a 6 year old system, and the only reason 360 could run Skyrim was because it was developed on it.

Looks like for the PS3 they'll have to rebuild the engine completely from scratch, with code optimized for that console.

Finally retrying the game now that I have time. And... it appears Skyrim broke entirely.

At first, I couldn't get past the main menu. That was SkyProc, managed to get ASIS and AV sorted out so I could play. Started a new game. Ralof would get as far as remarking that "Sovngarde awaits" when arriving at Helgen, and the game would crash. Did the usual mod check to see what's causing it.

And, well... none of them are causing it...

Hmmm, I regretfully suggest a delete and re-install (yeah, I hate hearing that too). Some critical file is probably corrupted somewhere.

I verified the cache and everything and it found nothing wrong, but it still kept up with this damnable crash. Already reinstalling--because I had mods installed when Dawnguard came out, I can't use the backup I had tucked away, so I'll need to make a new one for that. Argh.

Gonna take all damn day and I won't be able to do anything in the meantime.

Ah.. you have Dawnguard? What got me after installing Dawnguard was a mod to assign hairpack styles to all the NPCs. It not only crashed the game within a minute but it also didn't UN-install properly using the NMM. I ended up manually backing it out.

And you're already doing my trick of backing up a vanilla skyrim *and* the most recent modded version that doesn't crash.

I had Apachii installed but I don't recall any plugin that assigned those hairs to anyone else.

I only had the backup of the vanilla--compared to Morrowind and Fallout I don't run a whole lot of mods with it. That said, it was you guys who told me to make the backup in the first place. :V

Apart from not using HD textures and with below-average (performance) GPU settings, I also used a utility called Optimizer Texures, which basically streamlines and optimizes the .DDS texture files in mods to cut down on memory consumption. Didn't had any CTDs since then, even with 30+ mods.

Also, I suspect that a certain mod or two might be trying to mess with the main quest line.

A Bear playing the Lute, now I've seen everything. Modders never cease to amaze me with the things they come up with.

Funny that. I AM a Skyrim hoarder, but that means I avoid carrying unnecessary gear. I need every bit of carry space to bring the loot home. This means using spells for long range sniping and two daggers for close range.

The picture got one thing right; the Wolf Armour is the best at reaching armour cap with the least weight.

Aye, I make heavy use of my home storage and carry the absolute minimum on the road.
