Interesting, but i dont think they should rank all the Gundam Ace. Since different series has different technology.
UC mecha is obviously different than CE...
of course most of the seed Ace are in top ones because the overpower cannons.
What if you put char in Destiny and Amuro in Freedom...
or put setsuna in a Zaku and Graham in guntank lol....

As for Char... He sure deserves to be ranked as THE number one Gundam character. Really a legend. Though he had this stupid helm in the original :P

Newtype has a largely male readership. Gundam Ace has an older, predominantly male readership. Animedia has a younger mixed readership, with a lot of female readers. Animage has a largely female readership; it caters to fujoshi and the BL (boy's love) / yaoi crowd.

For example, Katekyo Hitman REBORN! is popular with female fans. Kyouya Hibari is exceptionally popular among fujoshi.

Their readers help explain popularity poll results in Newtype, Gundam Ace, Animedia, and Animage.

What are you talking about?? It is one of the reasons why there has to be a masked character in a Gundam show, all due to Char's mask!

Of course it is. But it´s not a good example if you want to make SEED look less good. Characters like Char is pure awesomeness and not being as popular as such a character is no shame. (Especially considering the fact that Kira for a long time held Char behind him.)

Well, it´s not for nothing that Char is Char.

Still though, just looking at how popular characters like Kira and Lacus still is makes me feel pretty confident that we will get more SEED. Although if it´ll be a movie, OVA or a full length show isn´t anything I would want to bet on.

And now that CE is done (at the very least for the moment), people are stepping back and looking at quality rather than new-ness. That's how it almost always is with Gundam: the new series skyrockets to the top of the polls when it starts airing because fans can get more "into it" since it's new and not something they've already seen, then people take a step back and look at it like all the others when it's over.

Of course. That's why I've never said the series is bad because I understand those who watched it at that time and still remember the excitement. I'm in my late twenties now and though I would not feel equal ties to the original series as the older fans or vintage enthusiasts, I still understand how it is to like and have warm memories from many shows that are now perceived as outdated by youngsters

First off, you´re perfectly right. "New-ness", I like that word , only gets you that far. Overall I´d say that I agree with what you have written. With the added note that I think SEED was/is a quality show. And I really don´t think those polls say something else since both SEED as a show and its character is still doing pretty good. Mostly Kira and Lacus. It´s just that the UC contains a lot of epicness.

(It´s no shame losing out to Char, heck, had Char been born in CE he would probably have been the one engaged to Lacus. The rest of the main characters would probably have gotten the heartbroken girls after Char was done with them or face-, and/or nameless girlfriends. )

SEED in this post is just the first season, I´m excluding Stargazer and Destiny from the quality shows list.

If at all, the Code Geass character that deserves most to act as analogy to
kira is Suzaku Kururugi.

I don´t really think Lelouch is an especially superdeveloped character when it comes to his personality compared to Kira. He´s been pretty much the same since the start, what has been developed is his strength as a battle commander and tactician. In my subjective opinion Kira was better portrayed and developed personality wise in SEED (not Destiny!) than Lelouch has been so far in Code Geass. Strengthwise I´d say that both of them are equally overpowered, although in different ways. Brawns vs brains. Resulting in CG and Destiny losing a lot of that which could have been so much better since so much gets so easy to foresee. One example would be Nunnally´s new role. I think it was a great move by the writers to give her that role and I was when I saw Lelouch´s face when he heard her in the phone. But afterwards, like a lot of the problems Lelouch has faced. It was so easily solved that the only feeling left was anticlimax.

This doesn´t mean I dislike Lelouch as a character, I really don´t. I think CG as a whole is a superb show with great characters. In case anyone doubted that.

I would also like to leave a recommendation. Just do as a I have, put D-KLAC on your ignore list. Not even I, who has rewatched SEED a number of times, can stand behind the things that one writes. But I don´t think posts that only contains complaints about other writers posts, no matter how up the walls they may be, holds a higher standard.

Now I´m going out in the sun again, need to work on that sun tan.
