When she reached a turn she walked around the corner only to have her eyes lock with a pair of glowing red orbs at the other end of the hall. So intense was the glow that, were she not already familiar with said glow, Nanoha would have immediately suspected it of belonging to an evil cyborg's eyes. (One too many killer-robot movies watched with Kyouya and Miyuki, back when she was still a little non-magical girl on Earth). Not that there was anything wrong with cyborgs, thought Nanoha. Unless, of course, said cyborgs were evil. But those red orbs belonged to one Fate T Harlaown, one very special woman. Her long blonde hair and smooth milky skin were only outward expressions of her shining inner self. Framed by the beatific fluorescent lights of the hallway, Fate looked like god's own messenger, a perfect angel - well, maybe not while in her brown uniform. No, wait - she could still be an angel, but even when in heaven and under god's graces Fate would still feel compelled to fight for what was hers, for what was right - and so she would of course belong to god's angelic military. "Nanoha," said Fate, in that oh-so-soft voice, that voice that was colored with promises of night and silk and skill and love forever... "Nanoha?" repeated Fate, waving a hand in front of Nanoha's face. Nanoha jumped back, utterly surprised by how quickly Fate had managed to walk down the hallway. "Ahh! F-Fate-chan," stuttered Nanoha, and as she said it she felt something welling up in her chest, in her heart, an emotion she had never truly experienced before - she was nervous, while talking to her beloved Fate-chan. Nervous! How could this be? "Are you alright?" asked Fate, voice tinged with concern...and colored with promises of night and silk and... "Nyahaha, of course I'm alright! Perfectly fine! One hundred percent!" "Nanoha..." said Fate, sounding a little disappointed...though still colored with - "You know," she continued, before Nanoha's internal narration could continue, "If you're not feeling well, you really should see Shamal...it's important that you stay healthy, for the sake of the TSAB...and...sometimes I worry about you," she finished shyly, while earnestly looking into Nanoha's own set of glowing orbs. Though Nanoha's were blue. "Fate-chan..." muttered Nanoha, feeling extremely - no, almost excessively - no, definitely excessively touched by Fate's care and directness. "Nanoha..." Fate muttered back. "Fate-chan..." "Nanoha..." "Fate-chan..." "Nanoha..." Suddenly, a door slammed open directly to Nanoha's left. Nanoha and Fate, who had been mere inches apart, jumped away from both each other and the door, looking guilty, though Nanoha wasn't entirely sure just why she would be feeling guilty. "Ah, Nanoha! Fate! There you are...we've been waiting for you forever," said Hayate, who had just opened the door of the conference room. Ah, that was why Nanoha felt guilty - she and Fate had been standing in the hallway, repeating each other's names, rather than diligently and punctually attending yet another pointless administrative meeting, like they should have been. Hayate turned to head back into the conference room. Following behind her, Nanoha and Fate exchanged a glance. For just a moment, the glows from their blue and red orbs mingled together to form a brilliant purple that could only be seen by them. And right at that moment Nanoha knew, that because she was Nanoha and because Fate and Fate and because this was the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise, she would have to take action if she wanted to avoid being stuck in yuri hell forever. Yes - thought Nanoha, as she and Fate broke eye contact to head to their respective seats - yes. Nanoha was decided, and when Nanoha had decided on something, nothing could stop her. Tonight, she would take Fate and claim her unspoken promises of night and silk and skill and love forever...
