Anyone know how the ratings have been in Japan for the last four weeks?

Sheryl looks at Ranka with jealousy at the singing scene?

I smell cat fights down the road.

woah. talk about coincidences.

i was talking about Lucas, the one without bal- never mind. I said i'll stop....

The animals are indeed funny.

I guess if we can have Chicken cows on Eden (Get milk, and beef flavour chicken!)

we can have hippo cows.

makes sense if your allowing full size zentradi, more meat per hippo cow.

I guess they more or less got the hang of this genetic engineering thing.

Spoiler:

LOL.

And Ranka...Ranka!! RAAAAANNNNKKKAAAAAA!!

I found you amusing and an interesting character, but after this episode....

I LOVE YOU!

Your song touched me! (inappropriately too)

I love all the moves she did during the song, is reminiscent of Minmei poses, when she sang the song that finally ended Space War I.

DECULTURE!

The fact that she gave off a faint yellow glow of energy, shows off her Animu Spriita power!

She needs some sound energy amplification quick!

I suppose the evidence of Animu Spirita is only visible to us viewer, because no one seems to notice it.

well, hopefully the old zentradi dude will turn out to be a good manager.

while the ending halve was interesting, mainly to show that humanity still makes stupid mistakes.

Ranka singing did it for me, on so many levels.

plus it helps when it was in a dammn cool place, i missed the full size Zentradi's! After all we were stuck with only one enlarged zentradi head for practically the entire series for Macross 7.

Well there was full sized Zentradi in the movie they were making about Space War I in Macross 7.

But i have to ask, why did they have meltran underwear displayed like that? were they on a underwear shop or something?
Well at least a rookie pilot wouldn't be tagged a deviant by being there like what happened to Hikaru when he encountered the bridge bunnies.

Hopefully in this fleet, used Meltrandi schoolgirl panties are not sold in vending machnes and outlawed by the government.

Oh crap I just realized a typical human can see under a giant Meltran's skirt. *nosebleed*

eh? really? hmm...i don't remember.

probably didn't make much of an impression on me.

I can only remember seeing a full Zentradi outside, was Exsedol being carried around by a helicopter to see the proto-culture ruins.

And for those of us who despise disgusting panty fetishist otaku, we can take solace in the fact that this would be an excellent way for someone to commit suicide.

I think the ones on display are, well, display models; there's probably a shop nearby that sells lingerie and the micronian terrace has ample room for displays at zentraedi eye-level.

Anyway, my Japanese wasn't nearly up to the task of following everything but I managed the gist of it. I do wish the animation had been better in a few parts (particularly the Ranka performance, it wasn't even as well animated as the My Boyfriend Is A Pilot performance and that was already pretty budget), but the content was wonderful. The zentraedi parts were just genius, I loved the image of Klein just sort of chillin', leaning on the balcony with Alto and Sheryl standing on it. I really want subs for a lot of this, though (I don't understand at all what possessed Sheryl with the underwear, seriously.)

Gonna plop a nine on this one - it loses points for budget animation (granted, after those first two episodes they have to trim down somewhere, but still) and a bit of excess sexualization, but gains a ton of points for raw whimsy.

Thing is, would a typical normal sized human risk being crushed underfoot for trying

I now realise that the reason why Michel picks on loli KK is likely due to feelings of inadequacy I doubt he can satisfy the girl when she's macro sized.

I wonder if KK is from a clone batch or a 2nd/3rd generation natural birth. An original clone batch isn't likely to have her sort of glitch [zents being designed as fully effective weapons no matter the size] since it defeats the purpose of a warrior race. I suspect that she's natural born and the random genetic mix is incompatible to the micronisation process. The micro chamber probably can't read her genes properly and just spits out an approximation [and comes out short]

Also, is Sheryl is an abbreviation of Shelley [signboards everywhere run that name]

She was thinking about the difference between Galaxy (highly industrial and a bit gray) and Frontier (open and green looking) and had some ideas for a song. She needed to write it down before they faded so she grabbed the underwear.

That is sort of what I gathered on a re-watch, but you think she could at least find a napkin or something, jeez. The episode was heavy enough on the LOL SEX jokes as it was, although Klein's raw bafflement with Sheryl was amusing enough.

Ep 1 - 1.1%
Ep 2 - 2.7%
Ep 3 - 2.7%
Ep 4 - 2.6%

For a late night show airing at the same timeslot as another anime (Golgo 13), it isn't doing bad at all (except for Ep 1 which people already saw)

Yup, I'm afraid so. Millions tune in to Shin-chan because it's meant to have broad appeal. I'll admit that I'm somewhat of a fan.

Although viewer demographics for Macross Frontier is surpisingly varied in terms of age (source: a moderator's post at Macrossworld):

Macross FRONTIER (2008/04/12 Kantou)

HOME | KIDS | *TEEN | ***M1 | ***M2 | ***M3 | ***F1 | ***F2 | ***F3 |
2.7% | *.*% | *0.3% | *4.2% | *2.5% | *0.2% | *1.0% | *1.2% | *0.2% |

HOME : Households (Setai)
KIDS : Boys & Girls aged 4-12 years
TEEN : Boys & Girls aged 13-19 years
***M1 : Men aged 20-34 years
***M2 : Men aged 35-49 years
***M3 : Men aged 50 years and over
***F1 : Women aged 20-34 years

Interesting, the female demographic is quite large for a niche mecha show.

Was half expecting Alto to carry around that tent sized underwear in public That;ll be a sight, an unfortunate fool attempting to outrun a legion of irate and former militant giants

Somehow, I suspect that theft is not a problem in the new zent society.

Only those signboards where Sheryl is seen holding a lipstick have the Shelley text on them. The other signs with her concert videos/posters still spell it Sheryl. I think Shelley might be a brand of cosmetics or lipstick, just like one of L'oreal, Revlon or Covergirl in RL.

What's 3.6 million yen for shoes to a zent ?

Thing is, for a society to be this prosperous and able to support 50ft titans must mean that that they now occupy a place that's both unique and high value. Probably space and colony construction. Also means that the colonies have converted the zent support systems to automatically produce consumables at a very low cost.

When the Zentradi band showed up for Ranka I can't help but think of Macross 7 Encore where Basara, Rey and Vividas did a impromtu concert on top of the building.

Mylene being the last member of Fire Bomber to join.

Like Fire Bomber the Zentrandi band didn't plan a gig they just drop by.
