Really? Somehow I'm expecting that Seikichi's going to be doing some traveling with O-Sora-San.

I really like the contrast of animation in the series and its lightheartedness.
wonder whether Sora will end up staying on earth...

What a treat! Three more episodes of this wonderful show from Tom & Jerry and our other friends at Shinsen. You're all doing a terrific job!

Episode 23 may have been the best individual episode I've seen all year. I also started a thread in Music for best score of the year just so I could nominate Honma Yusuke's work in Oh! Edo Rocket.

I'm so sad this will be ending soon.

yay! more Edo rocket. I was beginning to worry that the project's been dropped.

almost the end there... I think Sekichi will definitely finish the rocket by the end, but whether Sora goes to the moon is another matter.

Three eps subbed recently and three TERRIFIC ones at that.

Now I think Oh Edo is one of the best shows of 2007. It put me through a lot of emotional range most shows haven't.

Dear Yoshi-Santa,
Please bring me the rest of this terrific series. I hear you've got your Shinsen elves hard at work on this.

Love,
SeijiSensei

PS: If that's not possible, that new Saturn convertible wouldn't be a bad choice, either.

I have been meaning to check out this series for a while but seems like it is so under the radar that not many have been talking about it...
So how would everyone who has seen it in this thread recommend it?

It's one of my top-five shows of 2007, along with Seirei no Moribito, Dennou Coil, Mononoke, and Nodame Cantabile. A brilliant, if wacky, script, an exceptional score, and some quite innovative animation once you get past some of the weird character models. The chibi tradesmen put me off for a while, but now I really enjoy watching them. Here's a good shot of much of the cast:

You do have to have an open mind for this show since it is anachronistic as hell with TVs, blogs, trains, etc., in Edo Japan.

If you can look past those "chibi tradesmen" you'll be rewarded with the best action/comedy mix of the year. IMHO. Great lead couple, too.

Obviously anyone reading this thread is predisposed to like the show or else we wouldn't read the thread, but I can only agree with the last two recommendations. This show is an utterly brilliant mixture of comedy and drama. It is anachronistically romps through the Edo period mixing aliens with actual historical personages. The action is intense, the characters are solid and riveting, the comedy will split your sides. As if that wasn't enough, the animation is innovative and beautiful. There's not much more you could want from a show.

Top top it off even more, there's some of the most obscure references the show touches on. Puffy Ami Yumi cartoon? Gurren Lagann's Kamina? Yon-sama? Awesome.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Sure beats getting coal. I'll be settling in to watch these later today with a candy cane in hand. Thanks to Yoshinoya-Santa and her elves at Shinsen!

OK. I've just seen the end. It's fitting. That much I can say without spoilering anyone.

Looking at the list in my signature (which reminds me I should finally put in the October shows I'm still watching, arg.) this seems to be the series with the largest (personal enjoyment)/(general popularity) ratio. Only eight pages in this thread! Less than Baccano, less than Skull Man, for a series that has run for two full cours! *sigh* So let me thank Shinsen once again for sticking with this.

In the anime world of harems, all-female casts, and solitary gar maleness I found the interaction between Seikichi and Sora and most refreshing.

Finally finished Oh! Edo Rocket!

Easily best show of the year. Hands down, not even a contest at all.

Absolutely loved it from beginning to end, would have killed for more episodes just because I'm selfish and want more.

I don't think its the best, don't get me wrong though its a really good show but its been a good year and there's a lot tough competition out there.

Its definitely the most underrated show of the year (and I thought Seirei no Moribito would get that award ;p ) If you think about it: it has the same director as Full Metal Alchemist (Mizushima Seiji) and the same creator as Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (Nakashima Kazuki) you would expect that to cause some form of hype.

Ah well, on a final note: thanks Shinsen for finishing this, you guys did a great job as always.
