When they said Phryne stole the "key to the world" I immediately suspected the locket would contain some kind of administrator access to the Fractale System. I think it uses a doppel of its registered holder (that would be the human Nessa) as an interface. It's telling that the doppel Nessa doesn't know she was created from a presently living person and doesn't know who Phryne is while the human Nessa does.
Questions that need to be answered, Phryne doesn't know what was in the locket. She wouldn't have left it with Clain if she did.
Yet, the LM people knew more than she did about the locket and the data in it than she did. How did they find out about it?
Finally, where's the actualy physical locket now?

LM could've reduced casualty if they crashed the party BEFORE the update started (so those people won't be standing still...), but plot dictates that Clain needs to see the truth and bloodshed...

This really caught me in surprise. For the first two episodes this series led me to believe that its just gonna be K-On in the future with a little bit of background intrigue... kinda like Sora no woto. I'm sorry for ever mistaking that.

It seems that the series is leading to a fight between what people believe in. Obviously those religious people are the antagonists to this series but the other side isn't as good as well. The methods they used weren't so intelligent and bloodshed isn't always the answer to stopping something.

There's a lot to talk about here like why the priestess have staff-gun thingys or the people being brainwashed and all. It just creeps me out.

Just finished episode 3. It was a pretty interesting episode having revealed one of Fractale's secrets. The animation this time around kinda feels quirky. As for the end part... I find it kinda weird... guess I'll have to wait for another week to find out what happens next.

You don't know that. There is absolutely no evidence for this claim. In fact, I am willing to bet that Phryne knew full well just what was in the locket. It's not just a plot device imo. Think about it. All those people were gathered there expecting a festival and protection in return for being there. If you were someone opposing the system, would you really dare take them on while the followers of the system were active? I wouldn't.

Fractale is expanding quicker than expected. From the onset I assumed there would be the equivalent of the Lost Millenium group, an 'Anti-Fractale' association, if you will. That tends to play a major role in any series with a major difference from the normal reality, such as a new species, system, or ability. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, in fact it works very well in Factale, just that I was assumming such a group would exist.

First, though, episode two, which dropped some interesting concepts. Obviously, the biggest mystery is Nessa herself. She isn't a doppel or a human: she has qualities of both. People without terminals can't see her and people who dislike her can't touch her. Even Clain's parent's doppels' said that she wasn't human.

So what do we know about Nessa?

She isn't human or doppel.
Clain can touch her but it appears (so far) that no one else can.
She is, as Sunda has said, data and can appear on things like computer screens.
She is not a normal doppel as she can be touched and Clain says she feels 'warm', like a normal person.
She is not a human as she cannot eat, is made of mostly data, and not everyone can touch her.

So, what the hell is she? As episode three shows, there is a twin girl that looks exactly like her, with the same name, who is a priestess and has a sister-esque relationship with Phryne (I'm not inclined to believe they're actually related). Nessa herself doesn't seem too concerned with the existence of the other girl (I'm going to call her ON from now on (Other Nessa) until she gets something that differantiates her from the Nessa that travels with Clain). From Phryne's reaction to ON she apparently doesn't like her very much.

So, with the existence of ON, and the fact that Nessa appeared from something that Phryne was carrying, I have two theories behind what Nessa is. The first is that she is ON's doppel, but in a special sense. ON is a priestess so she is a very spiritual person. It's possible, for reasons not known, that she created a doppel of herself (maybe containing a part of her personality) and put it in Phryne's pin, which she took when she escaped. ON might have forgotten about this (if you've, uh, read up on the manga you'll get some backstory on this) and Phryne knows this.

The second theory is that Phryne forcefully took part of ON and transferred it into the pin, creating Nessa. ON probably would not remember this as, and I'm taking hints from the manga, the priestesses could have brainwashed her. Phryne might have even been purposefully looking for someone like Clain, as he is no ordinary person, and left the pendant with him in hopes that he will help with her mission. It certainly wasn't an accident that she left the pendant with him and it wasn't an accident that Nessa appeared.

Now on to Clain himself. Clain is not an ordinary person caught up in the Fractale battlefield. He can automatically touch Nessa and resists things like having a doppel and the data drugs easily. He prefers to live in a house, which is considered antique, and loves older technology. He can make his parents doppels disappear at will (which might be a common occurence, I'm not sure) and activated Nessa. Phryne saw something in him that Clain could not and she left him the pin because she knew he could help her.

Clain is also saught after by the Lost Millenium. They know something's up as well: why would 'the Key to the World' (forgive me, I forget what it's called) be left with an ordinary boy? That's why they went through such lengths to take him to Sunda and show him the truth about Fractale. Perhaps they and Phryne are working towards the same goals: they both want to destroy Fractale and fix this world. Clain and Nessa play an important role that they are unaware of at this moment.

The Lost Millenium is suspoicous, though. They think nothing of killing people, and civilians, because I'm not inclined to believe that was an accident. Really, they are nothing more than terrorists although they have higher goals. Right now LM is in the shadows: perhaps they're working towards more than they let on. I can't imagine terrorizing the Star Festival is going to bring the Fractale System down. What was saddest about LM for me, though, was that I thought Enri and her goons were hilarious and very endearing until they started killing people. Le sigh.

My favorite part of both episodes, though, was Clain dancing to show Nessa how the food tasted. I thought it was adorable. They're just so cute together (I was litterally going 'aw' when Nessa jump hugged him at the end of episode 2).

Is it me or is there something wrong with the guy in charge of music?
Every ep has a scene where the music doesn't fit and is played too loud.
Is it artsy?
In episode three the whole scene at the six minute mark where they have a conversation in the plane the music felt distracting instead of supporting.

wandering-dreamer reads too much Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: you know that's a great question.....	Spoiler for episode three: Kudos to everyone who called that the prayer system was actually a way of updating data, although I don't think anyone was expecting it to be quite that sinister (in retrospect that does explain why the world seems rather peaceful). And then holy mood whip lash at the festival, the designs keep making me think it's a kid show and seeing all those people get killed isn't really kid material. Guess the show is going the revolution will not be civilized route and sure isn't dragging it's feet starting it. Other than that, I really am loving the world building in this series, from the explanations about the technology, the visuals, the kinda-Irish music in the background, and most of the characters so far being portrayed as well intentioned people who aren't making good choices. Found Clain a bit easier to sympathize with as well, watching him geek out over all the antique stuff was pretty cute, now to just see if he can start thinking more for himself in the next few episodes. __________________ If it has a plot I have something to say about it! This has a simulcast.: Given that Nee-sama may refer to older sisters, but can simply refer to a young lady one looks up to, I'm less than 100% sure they're sisters (after all, they seem to be Sisters, and may simply be good buddies but Sempai/Kohei). The official dub using the word sister doesn't really give me much confirmation in context. I'll probably be stubborn about that until Phryne calls Human?!Nessa her Imouto. Phryne as the Big Bad is jumping to conclusions. If so, then why include Clain? (He's PartOfTheSystem, after all) Also, why be nice to him and why leave Nessa's doppel with him? Too much. The only thing I can think of is that she wants to bring down the System and somehow bring up something else that would be worse... but why? Just take over the Sisterhood and she has the world by the throat anyway. Heck, the most surprising thing about her appearance is that no one mentioned her 'stealing the key' or somesuch from the scene in Episode 2... and someone seems to like her. Maybe she's a lone actor, but Big Bad doesn't really make any sense. However, I would certainly give credence to the theory that anyone you name isn't fully white. Or black, for that matter. (Except Clain, who clearly hasn't figured out what color he wants to be, and Nessa who clearly is White just because she seems to be a personification of love and so anti-hate). So: Is Our!Nessa a Doppel built to look like Human?!Nessa? Or is she taking that form by choice? Or something else? Is Our!Nessa Human?!Nessa's Doppel? I doubt it. If she was, then Our!Nessa probably wouldn't have reacted to her controller's presence. Maybe, when they brainwash people, they put all of their excitement and positive feelings into Our!Nessa? That would explain her supremely cheery and I-like-positive-emotions stance. __________________

Molenir Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007	Spoiler: Black and White is tough to see. Obviously the brother is black, as is their entire group. Even if they claim they're murdering people for rightous reasons. On the other hand, the brainwashing system is black as well. I do wonder where this is going, but am enjoying it so far. Was a bit surprised to see people and characters getting killed, but somehow that makes the show a bit more real. So far, so good.

After the first two episodes I really didn't see something this crazy happening. Team rocket took a major hit as did the civilians. I mean I was kind of with Clain at the whole mention of casualties. They were raiding a festival you think it wouldn't be that nuts. But then you have automatic weapons going up against some weird beam weapons and all goes to hell. Feel bad for the civilians who are stuck there during the update while this insanity goes on. While I get their methods I still blame Lost Millennium. They start a bloody gun battle in the middle of innocent people. Anyways some interesting developments and some answers given. Makes sense for no crime if people are brainwashed to an extent. But wow they don't really eat normal food (explains kids living easily by themselves) and if they are connected to a system schools aren't really needed either. __________________ Anime-Evo

After all, if doppels are usually digitized personalities of living people..... Totally in the dark about Phryne's motivations. I assume she's revolting against the system in some way (the smile on Ice Queen's face from episode two when commenting on punishing Phyrne sort of sealed that deal). I guess Phryne must hold a very high rank or something for everyone to have stopped fighting. Sad to see fat henchman die. Kind of expected the henchman duo to fill the comedic hench role for the whole series. So, Phryne did not look happy when meeting her sister there at the end. Here's betting that while Phryne may be bucking the system, 'lil sis is a true believer. Would also provide some impetus perhaps for Phryne's taking of real Nessa's doppel. Sister vs sister? I guess we'll have to see. Anyways, the series is slow to go anywhere, but at least this episode shows it is going somewhere. I figured it had to be, but the previous two episodes had me a little worried.

Um... Even after reading all the spoilers prior to watching the episode, actually seeing the extensive bloodshed in action (after 2 and 3/4s episodes' worth of such serenity and gentleness) was NOT something I was prepared for emotionally. Just wow. I wouldn't say that I'm getting villain vibes from Phryne just yet. She seemed pretty pissed @ real Nessa. If she was ill-intentioned, why did she run away with doppel Nessa in the first place? And I literally laughed at loud when Nessa said, "Don't forget to wipe your butt!" to Enri. __________________
