A little late in posting on this thread, currently on episode 9.
Liked the Nyarko and Mahiro pair right at the start. Nyarko is funny, and can sometimes be intense ^^ (espescially if Mahiro is involved).

While the middle part before Cthuko brings Nyaruko and Hasta out, Code Geass reference...(No need of Geass to do it. Also there is Kurohitsuji 2 reference when Cthuko said "Yes, Your Highness!"(Should be the background, I never watch till the end of Kurohitsuji 2.) *Suicide*) Even in MAL, there are also no people talking about Gundam references.. Is the Gundam franchise around MAL and here bad, or was it too old to notice?(Since Gundam Z comes out before Gundam ZZ, which make it longer than 00.) Now I know why there is a need to have a voice actor voice both male and female easily. It is for the sake of this episode ehh.

In-universe, they're apparently all older than Mahiro, but not by much. A light novel reader might answer better, but if I'd guess they're either around nineteen or twenty, Earth-years. Do remember that Nyaruko's actually working for what passes for a police force, and in an official function too.

Nyarko 10 - Hitchhiker's Parental Control Guide to the Galaxy
The Rider references have finally caught up to the present day. Fourze isn't even over yet (in fact, it's still clearing out the Horoscopes. Taurus would approve of Space Child Guardian's plan, I think...) and there's already references to it. 宇宙キター!, the transformation sequence, and even Meteor's planet punch. A space season and space CQC do fit together exceptionally well. (And you can translate "Kita!". Thank you CR.) The other gags in this episode were great, too. The sheer length of time that Cuko and Hastur stood there, frozen in shock, was brilliant, and even little things (like the Ika Musume) gag were pulled off pretty well. The CQC Canceler escalation was one of the funnier things I've seen this show do, but nothing compares to the nerve this episode touched. "Won't somebody please think of the children?" Nerdiness is all about being a bit of a pervert, to take that away... the villains' speech was the kind of anticlimax this show has, but it also felt like a genuine threat, from a nerd's perspective. Blowing up the planet... did the extremists call upon V-Giny for that? Nyarko's had things to say about nerds and their relationship with media before, but touching on the idea of sanitizing it like that gave the show an extra layer it didn't really have before, all while being entertaining. And Tamao's got a cute little pet now. Loved this episode. Show me Cosmic Mind~♪ |

*glances about, suspiciously* ¬_¬
Yoink! *grabs the Hastur/Kuuko "statues" and flees* Nishishishishi! This week Earth is scheduled for destruction to You know, I understand that the Space Child Guardian was supposed to be taken along the lines of the previous arcs' anticlimaxes, but after a kidnapping plot to secure a juicy new uke for a trashy drama show and getting caught up in an interstellar console war, I've gotta say, having to combat an officious self-serving prick hiding behind the bullet-proof shield of "save the children" seems like a completely legitimate conflict. I love that Hastur and Kuuko's petrification is never resolved. They could still be at the park for all we know. |
