It really look like Rika and Hanyuu were playing some shiritori with each particle of the title "higurashi no naku koro ni".

The episode shows the usual everyday fun life once again, but compared to the first season, this one is done much better, as it really drew out the personality of the characters much more this time around (ie. Keiichi's "Magician of Words" ability, and Irie's "Maid in Heaven" mode ).

The focus on Rika's two sides was done excellently as well. It's much more subtle and "natural" now.

I agree, the feel that "there's more to this than what's on the surface" is what Higurashi always felt like for me. Comedy and serious scenes alike are all forshadows to something deeper.

Those of us who have finished the game (or people who have read the "putting together the pieces" thread) will know what Satoko's injection is all about, but for first timers, I can see how it can become another point of interest.

When Keiichi said he didn't mind about the strange death incidents = Onikakushi-hen avoided.

Shion's friendly alignment with Mion and Satoko = Watanagashi-hen avoided.

Looks like the number on the die is good this time around. But how long will it last...?

From the preview, it looks like they're incorporationg certain elements from other chapters into Yakusamashi as well (surprisingly, it seems they're actually putting some of Matsuribayashi-hen's pieces in there too. ie. attack on the Houjou family, the dropped coin purse, etc.).

The sakuga quality is amazing. Why couldn't it be like this the first time around?

It's a word composition play (ie. the "hi" in higurashi stands for "Hinamizawa", the "gu" in higurashi stands for.....).

Title of episode 3 is 無力 (muryoku), or powerless.

This may be spoilerish, but I'll try to explain

At the end of Meakashi-hen (in the game at least), when Shion fell off the balcony, her mind finally cleared up. She realized that all she has done was wrong, and that she had forgotten about the most fundamental thing that Satoshi asked of her before his disappearance, which was to take care of Satoko.

Shion apologized to everyone and promised she would not do it again, and that she will never forget Satoshi's favor again.

This is somewhat similar to Tsumihoroboshi-hen's Keiichi becoming enlightened to his own mistakes in Onikakushi-hen.

In other words, although their "past experiences" doesn't exist as clear memory, everyone is slowly learning from their own mistakes.

They're playing a game. Hanyuu says "Higurashi no~" and then supplies a syllable, which Rika then completes. Pretty much the same as Pythagoras Switch's "Daddy Switch."

In the season 1, I loved the previews, specially when It was the "preview pic" (example: when the sonozaki twin's grandmom appears in the end of a episode of Meakashi-hen)

But, the higurashi kai's previews aren't so bad. It's funny to see and listen hanyu ("Higurashi no~" XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD)

better, I'm waiting the episode 2 with subtitles (english or spanish)

While I did like the previews of first season more, those of Kai aren't bad. What remains incomprehensible to me is, why not to include them at the end of the episodes. Are those 45 seconds really too much for the allowed air time ?

Anyway, after having seen episode 2, it can finally be said that Higurashi is back. Not just the old Higurashi, but a remodeled and refined new version. The tag isn't something completely new, but the way it was done this time was completely amazing.
It's surprising but also nice to see Shion siding with Satoko now, after the horror of Meakashi. It's also nice to have more "black Rika" ^^ . And finally a justice is given to graphics and animations.

As for the rest, more comedic than thrilling, much like other parts-1 of the first series' arcs. Just that this episode had a huge load of significant plus if compared to them.

First thing I noticed was that Hau or whatever their name now is translates
'Naraku no Hana' into 'Flower in Hell' rather than 'Flower in the Abyss'. I really prefer the latter, since it being less specific, it evokes more vivid imagery than the former. T_T


But as for the episode itself, it's gold!

This time it seems, Shion actually follows Satoshi's last words and looks out for Satoko. And boy does she, even to the point of feeding her everyday (albeit with what Satoko really despises lol). Although I do feel a bit sad; crazy!Shion from last season was absolute fun watching last time around. XD

And Rena able to get K1 hard just from her pose those short sweet words? She's a master alright... lol

Thing I noticed though is that they don't show an important yet bloody scene in the beginning of a chapter. I liked those, since it gives me something to look for, hehehehe.

Higurashi is back!! After the first 2 eps I already firmly believe that this'll be just as great, if not even better than the first season.
