Oh, man... 704x396 is considered crappy resolution now? What has happened to the fansub scene That's more or less DVD spec!

I remember when moving from 480x360 to 512x384 was controversial!

Our group's first encode was 320x240

consider that 720p or 1280x720 is more then 4 times the resolution then 705x396 then yes it's quite crappy. I have yet to understand why some groups only release LQ files nowdays even when titles air in HD, The difference is quite stunning. Specially if you run an higher rez monitor or biger TV in general, for peoples who live still in the era of yesterday with maybe an SDTV and so on won't notive much but for those who have the thing it's like night and day.

I just watched the esp, God I love it, the number of tiny little things in the show you can see for the comming esp is wonderful.

I could probably open up with an entire mad discussion on the ships, people and mechs of the show.

But Yes, this is one of those shows I want to download a 1080 version. There is just so much lost detail if you don't.

Unfortunately, most shows are still only aired in SD which is why most groups don't encode in HD. I do understand why a show like Macross Frontier should be released in HD, though

On a side note, nothing annoys me more than when people ask me "Why don't you encode in HD?! The raws are in HD!!" When the HD raws that people see online are merely upsized SD videos created by silly Japanese encoders There are dozens of shows like that.

Uhm yes I explained it not well: I meant it has a low bitrate... so I thought it was because of the online streaming and there was a bittorrent version around.

Visually speaking its really awesome but it seems predictable like its a mix of SDF Macross and Macross 7. Also does it really have to be space monsters? I was hoping for an advance race not some Dunbine mecha rip off.

Still besides the minor complaints it was an excellent first episode.

Am I outdated or are you guys the outdated ones? I mean graphically the show is the best I've ever seen since I watch anime. I can go as far as saying I don't care about the plot, I'll see this show only for its art. Anyway what the hell is a "premiere episode"?!? To me it seemed just an episode one in oav format, am i wrong?

Oh the Joy and Agony of the First episode!!

Joy in watching an awesome first episode, and the agony of having to wait until April for the series to start..

Yes I loved Macross, it was the first show that got me really hooked to Anime when I was young. Yes yes, it was called Robotech when I saw it.

Woot Shinsen has released their sub of eps 1.

Man, that was an impressive. There is no way they can keep up this pace of eye candy goodness through the rest of the series unless someone decided to throw some stupid money at it.

Heh, I guess they get some of the money from the mention of the "Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open" and "Oakley" with the "James Stewart signature model Crowbar MX Goggle".

Either way, looking forward to the rest of the series starting in the Spring.

If what people are saying about Roy, Hikaru, Minmay and Misa appearing briefly at the beginning is true, then this will be the first time they've appeared even in a still in anime since 1987. Shoji Kawamori once swore that we would never ever see these characters again and that there story was done, but even a brief glimpse would break that vow of his. Either way 20 years is a long time to wait.

What actually said was that he would never do a continuation of their story since he felt that it had be completely told. As for them "appearing" that is only a promotional picture from the DYRL movie. It was one of the posters I believe, they just re-edited it. There were other times they have appeared as well, but only as recap, i.e. the Macross 20th anniversery PV, images in Macross 7 during the episode where Basara plays a part in a TV special as Hikaru.

For die hard fans you may have noticed all the obscure ref's to other macross series in this episode.

1). Sheryl Norme starts her concert by saying "Listen to my song!", this is what Basara would say before he sang.
2). The female Lt. who escorts Sheryl Norme is a Misa Hayase look alike.
3). The Chinese restaurant is decorated exactly like the "Little White Dragon" (The restaurant from SDF Macross that Minmai worked at.
4) Luka's phone is a play on Mylene Jenius's pet... the little tibble thing she had.
5) When the episode ends with Alto in Gerwalk posed as he was and the enemy posed is a play on Hikaru's first close encounter with the Zentradai in SDF Macross.

theres more, i just can't remember... tired... lol

It's a torture to wait till march for the start of the series

Do hope they kept up the quality of the animation, i really like all the little details of the background, very vibrant and life like especially the billboards but some scene could use a bit more animation in it like high production value series like seirei no moribito and GitS.

The 3D animation of the valkyries and alien craft is ok, still can tell the difference between 3d object and 2d backdrop though.

That was a good episode.

I am very impressed by Aya Endou's singing. She really has a lot to live up to, following the footsteps of Mari Ijima and Yoshiki Fukuyama. And to think her most recent role in my mind is her as Miyuki from Lucky Star.

The VF-25s are a great homage to the original VF-1s. They look like compact versions of the VF-1. And Hikaru's colours on the unit that Alto takes over is a very nice touch.

I'm waiting for a manly tear inducing death for the current CO of Skull Squadron, considering how he's voiced by the man who did Kamina in TTGL and how Roy went out in DYRL and SDF.

This one came out of the blue for me.Actually excited by an anime series first in a longtime.

Macross like others mentioned also got me into anime. Very strong opening. Noted lot of references to original Macross .
I wonder if some of the story arc will be like the original?.

Unsure of the music - one of the things i liked about the original. Coool Valkyries........cant wait for the next ep....

It's out! Now! I haven't been following this too closely, but I thought it wasn't until spring!

I think I just discovered the meaning of Christmas!

Everytime an episode of Macross Anything is shown an angel gets its wings!
