Since the premise of this show focuses on cute little girls, there are some people with no taste that prefer older women and thus do not understand cuteness or able to appreciate it to the extent of taking the girls home.

If it was a schedule problem, they wouldn't announce the same staff in magazines I think. Plus I think it's rather a collaboration than a support otherwise KyoAni would credit one guy as assistant director. I thought that meant an experienced director coaching a rookie as we saw with Ogawa and Ota in Hyouka but they used this credit for the first episode of Clannad : Ishihara helped by Kitanohara. Ishidate and Ishihara probably shared the episode like Part A & Part B. I wonder if they wanted to try something new since the storyboarder is a different person.

choi is just so cute & nice, adorable....oh yeah it's a kyoani show but anyway I do like the episode. I don't really see any problem with the introduction of Choi (or the prince , if ever in the coming episodes). I feel they are as much a part of TAMAKO MARKET (the show) as anyone else. That much is laid on the plate since the early seconds of EP 1 with the Dera, the talking bird with laser eyes. I think the problem is with people expecting this show to be a normal SoL, when it was never made to be such in the first place.
well she's not JUST a fortune teller, for what I can seen she is acting out the Shaman role in their "kingdom" as she's directly responsible for finding the next princess->queen, Shaman's are probably the 2nd highest ranked & respected member of any tribe.

Indeed, this isn't your average street fortune-teller, even if she did end up with a stand outside the shop because she felt it was important that she not owe anyone anything. Remember earlier when Tamako was saying maybe she could predict what would be on her test, Choi said she only divined national events. She is the royal seer. That is generally a position of great importance.

Choi is not only cute, but she's awesomely important... with a greatly tanned peach... *drools* (oops, /wipes)
PS: I still can't figure out if Dera is a normal bird with magic, or a cyborg bird.... Also... so... she finds the "match" through "smell" interesting. |

The new elements just don't mesh all that well with its designation as an SoL, but (in fear of a pointless genre debate) that's just how I see it. In any case, it's good for the comedy side of things, so it balances out somehow.

My favorite aspect of the series was the "shopping district" and even with Dera (a talking bird that shoots lasers) that was the major aspect of the 1st half of the series. Yes this whole island princess/prince thing was foreshadowed from the beginning (I am not denying that, in fact I mentioned that in my first post) but for me it takes away from what I liked from the first part of the series. As for what is more realistic a talking bird or Island prince, well it's all relative. I don't mind fantasy elements but this one just didn't work for me. It's not so much that it's more unrealistic it just feels too different from what I enjoyed in the first half. But not to mention the fact that it doesn't mesh for me with the other part of the series was only one issue I had, it's not the only one. Perhaps my issues will go away in the next episodes, and if they don't well I enjoyed the first half.

Between sisters, wouldn't Tama-chan be more intimate and informal than Onee-chan?
Makes sense she might use the first in private.

Anyone involved with this series' designs and concepts, I want to give them a massive bear hug for how cute and relaxed it is.
By the way, anyone else catch the character song album? It has an interesting overall vibe to it and I really like it. I felt poor Tamako's song was just way too hectic and over-the-top, but everyone else worked out well.
