Yeah, I am not sure I would actually consider it an "improvement". The harem stuff was getting pretty silly by the end.

Anyway it was kind of an entertaining watch but still only about 6/10 objectively. I wouldn't mind seeing another season though.

Overall, not much impressed with the adaption despite the first episodes weren't too bad, but second half was somehow rushed and a lot of content was left out and watered down.

In the end the manga still the best and more complete adaption of the novel and also the only adaption that is still ongoing.

Indeed. One of the many maps comprising Path of Exile's endgame has this is flavor text: "Treat a man like a wild animal, and he will soon learn to bite." That, I understand, is exactly what was done to the protagonist, leading to the mental state you describe that thinks preemptive revenge is a fine idea... never mind the other problems that can arise from time travel (the Red Alert games live on this, and it's the reason the United Federation of Planets has an explicit Temporal Prime Directive). I suspect some of critics of this series' content have either overlooked or chosen to ignore the fact of the protagonist being knocked off-kilter as a direct result of his experiences.
