Naruto's face looks a bit weird, but other than that, it's out of control good.

thank you all for your continued praise!

I was wondering when someone would comment on the fact that my characters don't look like their anime/manga counterparts. ever since I stopped copying pictures, I've tried not to copy the 'style' either. I try and maintain my own style and still represent the characters...

sometimes they look more like their originals than usuall. I'm not sure if you're saying his face looks odd because it doesn't look like Naruto, or if you just don't like an aspect of his face, but I'm surprised no one's called me on that before now.

ah well, maybe I'll finish this if I get some time...

Naruto's facial expression is fine, but hinata's is not. She is not so aggressive, even when fighting she does not show any sign of aggressiveness except on her attacks.

I feel the same way, that expression is too fierce for the soft-spoken Hinata. And Byakugen eyes are all white, but you have drawn the iris and pupils.

alrighty, to adress your two points:

aha! I claim artistic license! as I try to avoid representing anything already seen in a source when doing my fanart, I drew this Hinata with the thoughts of her future, gaining a modicum of confidance and being bolstered STILL more with Naruto at her aid.

but, while looking for my second point (which is still coming) I found THESE interesting examples:

that not pissed off enough for ya?

so, Hina can get the job done when she needs too.

now, onto the Byakugen:

you'll notice that, as with my picture, the eyes remain lavender, and retain the iris (the pupil seems to NEVER exist in a Hyuga) as well as gain a strange little sextet of marks. I'm just reffing what I've seen as far as this goes. can you fault me for this?

I apologize if this comes of as defensive and bitchy. I really do appreciate ALL critiques. cause in the end, it's what people percieve that matters.

I forgot which artist said this, but it remains my most basic motto to this day:

"don't draw what's correct... draw what looks good."

LOL, you got me there! But I still think she doesn't look aggressive in the anime, just my opinion anyways.
Btw, I agree very much with your motto.

I totally didn't mean to make an affront. I agree, she's usually the sweetly shy and timid one. that's why I like her!

Your principles are good in the sense that you are trying to deviate from the term fanart and go closer to creating original art. I respect you for that.

The reason that people still think she's too aggressive must have something to do with the amount of emphasis on the eyes and eyebrows. Notice that the shading and outlines are darker compared to any other part of the body. Right now we are seeing it as a sketch uncolored, so the eyes could be easily percieved as too "evil" or something.

gotcha, Tboz, that makes sense. and I do agree that this is more agressive than she's been portrayed so far. that's why fanart is so great, you can do whatever the hell you want with it!
