Yeah, MakubeX2 told us about it at Kodomo no Jikan manga thread.
If anime series starts in July then the OVA will be released before series is finished, a kind of lost episode like MakubeX2 said. Hmm, things that they can't put in tv-series. I'm going to jail for this... |

Apparently the impending North American release of Kodomo No Jikan known as Nymphet has been pulled due to consumer (and Jesus') complaints.
Here's the relevant ANN article: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/indu...ngelis-nymphet |

It hasn't been pulled as far as I can tell... but the Sevenseas people are explaining the situation to their vendors and allowing anyone to back out who feels nervous.
I'm unaware of any serious consumer complaints or actions by any witchburning groups --- but Sevenseas is aware they *could* take some flack so they are covering their bases with the above action. I get an Internal Server Error when I try your link, Kaioshin ... but ANN has never been a very reliable news service in my opinion. There's an official press release from the president of Sevenseas on the matter but I don't have the link handy. ((off to do some research on it)) edit: what I did find over at ANN over the matter is mostly full of shit (--- the author of it (Answerman) is one of their least reliable sources and is known to be particularly anti-moe/loli ... bluntly, he's a jerk. There *is* controversy but mostly just speculation about some vendors getting nervous -- worst case this ends up being an online order only item I guess. (((I adjusted that sentence to reflect what the link was pointing to ... what I found independently was a lot of 'Answerman' garbage))) Here's the official quote from the president of Seven Seas: Quote:

The ANN post is the same press release that was posted in the Kodomo no Jikan manga thread. It says nothing of being "pulled."
Personally, if there's some big issue, make it only available for sale online where a credit/debit card is required. If anything, the controversy will only help boost sales in "certain" demographics.

Ah... its working now... yeah that's just the press release in the linkage. What I found independently were some "Answerman" diatribes on the manga and anime along with a lot of name-calling and factually broken data. I adjusted the previous post to reflect that.

Here's his last uninformed and misleading rant on the subject
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2007-05-18 about halfway down the page. He alludes to an earlier "lolicon war" at the site which I followed for a bit until I got too annoyed to read more. Basically he damns it without a clue about its content. I guess the domain name "anime news network" causes me to have a certain level of expectation about what they do. Unfortunately, with the broken state of "news" in general today, they may not understand what good news reporting means anymore Give them all the validity of Inside Edition or the Star in reporting serious news

The first one may have been Zac Bertschy trolling the crap out of them with his last Answerman column in his typical "anime is for cool people; Escaflowne rocks; pedos, stay away" style. I read his column because he does offer *some* insight about the american anime industry, but whenever he starts talking niché anime, he turns into Holy Jesus himself. It's probably been a while since I haven't replied in the post-Answerman discussion threads on their forum where I'd suggest him or one of his colleagues to quit the biz. The second one may be more likely--Seven Seas are effectively creating buzz to boost their future sales. If that's truly the case, I have to applaud them; they did good. Quote:

<shrug> nice stuff in the PM O.o .... so they're proudly clueless
And they don't even serve "average American anime watchers" ... they serve a specific group (i.e. people like them). I think many "North Americans" would be gagging right about now. I already try to avoid giving them hits and usually recommend to people to avoid them for the same reasons. Maybe if they provided useful news I might think differently (Why does "Most Trusted" sound a lot like "fair and balanced" ..... oh Orwell)

Well, I'd initially dismissed this show and manga out of hand after reading the description and the controversy.
However, after reading more about it, and reading some manga pages... I still won't be following it. While this may be primarily humor driven, the sexual innuendo and imagery is clearly a huge part of it. I can see where there is more to this than merely pandering to the lolicon market, especially since it is written by a woman. However, the lolicon market is clealry being pandered to, nonetheless. While the teacher character certainly wants nothing to do with his problems, it's really not any different from a young male character in the typical harem story, and there's innuendo-filled imagery outside of that context, too. (I personally could do without said imagery in any context, but I freely admit that I'm a prude.) A series on this subject matter could either pique my interests in particular or be extra-disturbing for me, because I volunteer with children in situations where I have to be VERY careful about my reputation and also watch out for signs of abuse (one of which is such precocious behavior). This falls solidly into the "disturbing" camp for me. Quote:
It has driven me further in my pursuit to build an alternative. (In fact, I think I'll go ahead and post regarding that on the General forum.) |

With the manga in limbo and supposedly dead in the west. What are the chances of the anime being licensed should it stay faithful to the source ?
And it's very surprising that 50 years after the publication of Lolita, people are still as closed minded as ever. I guess this is a case of the more things changed, the more they stay the same. Lolita has been accepted as a literary classic. But KnJ, a tamed spiritual successor, has been shoted down before it's release. Last edited by MakubeX2; 2007-05-30 at 22:39. |
