The problem with a show this popular is that you just know they won't have the balls to kill off the main characters. As such, the drama fell mostly flat for me. Though I did sort of appreciate that the main hook to RoboTiger was that it could only be destroyed by it's own weapon; not that it had some uber awesome fighting abilities. Also liked the little glimpse into Lunatic's encounter with RoboTiger and Antonio's reason for considering the button.

So let's see how they explain Kotetsu's recovery next week. New Power? His suit was destroyed so that could explain the lack of a signal.

There's a lot of ways things could go from here. I think there's three main routes they could take:

1.) Tiger dies. The heroes rally, reveal Maverick publically as the villain, big hero memorial for Kotetsu. Season 2, if such a thing happens, could easily flip the entire concept on its ear by flashing forward 10 years, and having Bunny partnered with the newest super hero with something to prove... Wild Tiger (Kaede). This would easily push the series forward with new material for a new season. As an added bonus, if they bring Tiger back post Time skip, they can add even more drama with Kaede, and upgrade Blue Rose to love interest as opposed to, uh, moderately creepy hello teacher thing.

2.) Ultra comic book save! Kaede or Blue Rose freeze Tiger! He gets brought back either right away or in a time skip situation.

3.) Tiger fainted. He comically gets up, right when everyone thinks hope is lost, and uses up the last of his power to finally save the day.

Extra bonus method: He gets a secondary power, heretofore unknown, that brings him back to life! The dual power precedent has been set with Jake.

Also, I have to speculate how they're going to make Maverick a threat to the entire room of very pissed off heroes. My gut is telling me that the secondary heroes will be revealed as Ouroboros flunkies, as they were introduced and have been conspicuously absent.

But there's always a chance they could have him just pull out storm troopers, or his own secondary powerset.

In any case, this show has been excellent, and has me on the edge of my seat waiting for next week.

I think the reason why some are thinking of that sort of ending is that it makes a great flashback and origin story.

Lelouch and Spike "died" in the final 5 minutes of their shows. There is one episode left. Kotetsu can't be dead. Kind of surprising we didn't see the red aura, again. We know Tiger can use his power to heal himself. Secondary powers activate!!!

Maverick is a Lex Luthor type of villain. He's going to escape and he always has a backup. It's possible Jake Martinez could resurface. He could have covered up his death.

As for Ouroboros, we may get a twist ending where we find out who their leader is. I bet it's Agnes or another character we don't suspect. The Mayor has a powerful son, you know.

Maverick is old enough to have developed a secondary power as well. If it were one, it would be super speed, time manipulation, or high level psi powers. He gets around very fast from different places in the city. His secondary power could be the full range of psi powers.

Tiger & Bunny vs H-01. They were no match for it until they worked harder.
Turning heroes against each other in the cells, pushing the weakest link was hard to watch.
Kaede sure finished off that guy fast （￣ー￣）
Kotetsu got hurt in the blast & finally shared with Bunny about his declining power.

Of course, by the time Lelouch died, he pretty much was playing the role of a total jerk in order to have all the hate of the world be shifted to him, and given how a number of Code Geass viewers pretty much hated him before that, his death to them would be more like Light from Death Note rather than Spike from Cowboy Bebop.

Actually I'd be surprised if they killed Tiger now, when they could do so in the finale instead (where it would actually have more impact, viewer-wise). So I don't think we'll see the last of Wild Tiger, at least not until HE has his say with Maverick.

Then again this is Sunrise after all.

Having the heroes locked up in those rooms turned out to be irrelevant to the plot at hand. If he was going to kill them he should have just done it.

I'm hoping that Kotetsu is miraculously saved in the next episode just because of the way they've allowed the second half of the season to be so cliche. That would be a good way to top off the weak second half.

I'm very disappointed that they showcased Kotetsu's decreasing power just to lead up to that. They never really touched on the fact that although it was decreasing in time it increased in ability. If that were the case Kotetsu should have been able to defeat Barbaby and possibly H-01. That would have been something I would have enjoyed.

Instead, we get the well overdone self sacrifice while holding the unbeatable enemy. I believe I saw that in Dragonball at least 4 times.

Can someone give me a reason why Lunatic is a character? I no longer understand his purpose. I am let down by the misuse of such a great character that could have stirred up some controversy about what it means to be a hero.

Anyone who wants to contradict what I say please do. It might help me feel a little better about the direction this show took after Jake. I know I have complained every week, but there really isn't anything else for me to watch this season.

I agree with everything you stated about this series, it totally went downhill after the Jake arc.

The final boss they had to fight was a android? Wow, that kills the raw emotions, if they had to kill a person (evil or not). Sky High android girlfriend had more emotion than this few episodes thats left. I would of been happy, if the episodes after Jake arc was random side stories or back stories with Blue Rose, Dragon Kid and the others. This show could of profit bit more with exportations from Dragon Kid possible moe!

Beautiful episode.

Simply beautiful.

There's very little, if anything, I would have done differently. Thoroughly enjoyed almost every line of dialogue, and every bit of action. It was awesome.


I have mixed feelings on Kotetsu dying. I see pros and cons both ways.

Death Pros:

1. Kotetsu goes out the ultimate hero, dying to save his fellow heroes, his partner, and his daughter.

2. The ending maybe feels a bit more raw and real - Nobody would call it a copout.

3. If used wisely, his death could make for excellent inspiration for Bunny, and/or Kaeda, going forward.

4. Should Sunrise produce a sequel to this, there'd be added drama to any scene where a hero could conceivably die, because viewers would say "Hey, if they were willing to kill Kotetsu, they're willing to kill anybody."


Life Pros:

1. Kotetsu deserves a happy ending, and so does his daughter and fellow heroes. They fought and struggled very hard to overcome Maverick and Rotwang.

2. Kotetsu can still be utilized for any potential 2nd season without involving a superhero resurrection.

3. Sunrise won't be tempted to pull off a superhero resurrection. These have become so common in DC/Marvel comic books that they've become a bit of a running gag. They've turned superhero deaths into a complete farce. I'd hate to see that shift over to an anime original superhero story.

4. I agree with Guardian Enzo - Those really shouldn't be Kotetsu's final words. I don't mind catering a bit to the fujoshis, but not for a scene of this importance.

Spoiler for Code Geass, Mai HiME, and Cowboy Bebop comparison - MAJOR spoilers:

I'm equally split on the likelihood of Sunrise killing off Kotetsu. Sunrise has been known to go in all directions here. On the one hand, they killed off Lelouch and Spike. On the other hand, there is the Mai HiME ending. That's probably the most ridiculous happy ending I've ever seen in anime.

All-in-all, I actually give 50/50 odds of Kotetsu dying. I would not be surprised at all, either way. Either way can make sense, and either way has pros and cons.

Part of the reason I give 50/50 odds is that title for next episode "Eternal Immortality". In a practical sense, immortality comes from becoming a legend. One way for a hero to become a legend is dying for a honorable cause...


If I had to choose, I think I'd prefer Kotetsu to survive. But there are pros and cons either way.

There's a middle ground to all of this, as well.

That is, Wild Tiger dies but Kotetsu lives. The pro to this is Wild Tiger goes out in style while allowing Kotetsu to retire quietly and raise Kaede (and look after Bunny too? ). The con is any second season wouldn't be about Tiger and Bunny, per se, since only Bunny would be officially left.

Do I think Kotetsu is really dead? I'm coin flipped on the issue. Sunrise has killed off major characters like this before, detailed in other spoiler posts. That said, do we really want the possibility of a Mwu LaFlaga moment if they do keep him dead next episode? For those unfamiliar with what I'm getting at, Gundam SEED killed Mwu LaFlaga off in an extreme fashion (blew him up point blank) to then decided to bring him back as a brain washed Neo Roanoke after changing the original ending of SEED in the compilation movies. I personally liked that one but almost everyone else online loathed it to the point of uncontrolled hatred because it totally undermined the moment from SEED. As another poster mentioned, superhero resurrection for characters long thought dead is a common trope as well and seeing how wacky Sunrise has gotten doing that with SEED in the past, it would almost be better IMO to let Kotetsu just live.

Two other issues come from spoiler articles with people working on T&B. One is that when asked if Kaede would become a Hero, the answer was Kotetsu wouldn't let her. How is he suppose to do that if he's dead?! Second one is it was said we should pay attention to Lunatic. Since reading that I've had to wonder if maybe any season 2 will be more about him verse Tiger and Bunny. I think what I'm getting at is T&B has set up Universe and because of that any S2 could actually not be about Tiger and Bunny and get away with it. Still if SEED taught viewers anything, Sunrise tends to know they have to have characters from the original show show up (heck, even DC and Marvel have figured out that one), so that has to be factored into things as well. I guess I'm just hoping they keep Kotetsu alive in some way because if they don't we may just get a superhero resurrection and one of those could go wrong really fast and really bad .

Hhmmm... that's an interesting point. When I first read that spoiler, I thought "Why would Kotetsu be so against his daughter becoming a hero when he was a proud hero and Kaeda would even get to work with her idolized Barnaby if she became a hero?".

Well, if Kotetsu endures a real close brush with death, I can see him being very concerned for Kaeda's safety...

Should Kotetsu survive this, it would indeed be a real close brush with death, and something that would make him really against Kaeda becoming a hero.


As for Lunatic, I still think he's going to kill Maverick.

I honestly think that we're through the fighting now. Next episode should be an epilogue of sorts, with a quick defeat of Maverick, and a firm focus on Kotetsu: If he survives, happy ending for all. If he dies, I expect a really touching funeral.

Now, something stood out to me this episode: I don't think that Maverick likes Rotwang much. During one of Rotwang's racist-esque spiels against NEXT, you could see a bit of a frown on Maverick's face. And I actually think that Maverick chuckled a bit each time Rotwang's attempts to talk the Heroes into killing one another failed, as though he was thinking 'Looks like you underestimated us NEXT after all, Rotwang.'

Maverick is a NEXT himself, so I think he really dislikes Rotwang a lot, but needed his help for his plan, so saw teaming up with him as a necessary evil.

However, I think Maverick's last contingency plan - His Plan C, his last "out" - Is to basically throw Rotwang under the bus.

I think Maverick is going to argue that Rotwang was mind-controlling him this entire time with some sort of gadget (Maverick will have something jury-rigged here to back-up his words), and that Rotwang killed Barnaby's parents out of anti-NEXT hatred (since Barnaby was a NEXT).

Maverick may be persuasive here... but there's one key loophole in his plan. Lunatic. I think Lunatic has heard enough to know that Maverick was the mastermind of all of this. And I think that even if Maverick manages to get the heroes to suspect Rotwang of being the cause of everything, that Lunatic is going to step in and kill Maverick.

Should those spoiler articles be true, Lunatic needs to do something big to warrant people paying attention to him. Killing Maverick after deducing that Maverick was the mastermind of it all would be something big.

Then Kotetsu doesn't have to worry about his NEXT's time limit.

I knew that I should have waited until the series ended before starting to watch. Damn cliffhangers! And for some reason I'm flashing back to A.T.O.M., I wonder if it'll end on a similar note.

Spoiler for My speculations:

Right now I think that Kotetsu might use that accelerated healing thing he did a while ago to heal himself, but that it will reduce his powers a lot. Hence, he wont be a hero anymore and instead become den dad (or supervisor/Red Tornado to Young Justice/Bruce Wayne to Terry McGinnis) to the other heroes, with Kaede being a sort of mascot/den kid. This way he'll be semi-retired but continues to impart what it means to be a hero to other heroes, yet still be free enough to raise Kaede.

Though I'm not liking the next episode title, since it could simply mean that Kotetsu is dead but still immortal, as Kotetsu lives on in Kaede (and her kids, grandkids, et cetera) and Wild Tiger lives on in the hero community through his philosophies (and Bunny).
