Although it was not an art book, I bought the book of a title called Kosuke Fujishima's Character Laboratory recently.
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview....Y=NEOBK-791444 The illustration of Holo which Kosuke Fujishima (creator of "Oh My Goddess") draws is contained in it. And the talk of Isuna Hasekura and Kosuke Fujishima is also included. As an interesting thing, because Hasekura did not have data of medieval Northern Europe, he said in the talk that Yoits might be set as Russia. Russians' Wolf God Холо... I remembered that DVD and Manga were released even in Russia. Even Russia has a Horo/Holo (Хоро/Холо) problem and the Russian translator is explaining it. Google translation |

I'm from Russia
Yes. This is good link with the true information. Russian community had a little holy war (Holo war) for Horo (Хоро), but lost. We are using Holo (Холо) now. Wolf God Холо from Russia… Looks like a fox, wolf have never been seen in Russia. I remember that it’s wolf from America. However, we have a lot of wolfs from end of first season Of course, Hasekura could mix it. It is easy to believe in the Russian Yoits in the middle of winter forests with wolfs and big Bear. But it's easy in Norway too. I have played with names Horo/Holo/Холо/Хоро as part of a word similar in pronunciation (I hope) to Japan. Funnily, but useless. Names of Horo's friends are too far from Russia. Holo/Холо/колос – ear (of wheat) Holo/Холо/холод – cold Horo/Хоро/хоро (or хоровод) – village's ancient, very ancient folk dance with songs that stands (nobody is sure yet) for Gods, world, world’s creation. For exp - http://www.baikaltravel.ru/common/up...enica(1-1).jpg Horo/Хоро/хорош – be good Last edited by poleno; 2010-09-20 at 07:56. |

And we do need to approximate the proper spelling of Holo's name as close as possible whenever her we are translating, so Холо was the right call in my most humble opinion.

Horo had been used for 2 years in R before the anime was licensed. Is it first love? Ж) Last edited by poleno; 2010-09-21 at 04:17. |

I guess I'm just a bit more flexible with it than most people though... I'll go either way with the spelling. But, considering we know how to spell her name now...

Hahaha... I started out with Horo, but when I saw and heard the her was spelled Holo, I had to adapt. I mean that's her name. You wouldn't spell your Mom or GF's name wrong for whatever reason ne?
For me Horo, Holo, Хоро, Холо, 호로, ホロ... I can be flexible; those all mean the same to me. But... if we are gonna spell her name correctly, it is Holo. But... I won't get mad at anyone for spelling it another way.

Since I think that this is an Off Topic Theme, I take up other information. Although I was almost uninterested, the collaboration of RPG Disgaea 4 and Spice and Wolf was announced. They have not shown clearly what kind of collaboration it is yet. But, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Lotte no Omocha!, etc. are also contained in collaboration list. Disgaea 4 is PS3 format and is released on February 24, 2011. http://disgaea.jp/4/ http://dps.dengeki.com/2010/09/17/p24649/ Since there is no new item these days, I am slightly disappointing. |

Thanks... that is good to know. However, I am afraid such a collaboration will not do Holo justice!

Eeee....you're right but first I have to :
1) Continue learning japanese to be able to read the novels 2) Focus on my research for an internship to Japan 3) Wait for funds before thinking to buy anything else But for sure, I'll complete my collection !

Nein, coins are not in my top list currently. I first focus on all the books and games. Then I'll see.
By the way, I found 4 bookmarks hidden in the novels, including one with Holo (others are just Dengeki Bunko Magazine bookmarks), and some papers to suscribe to Dengeki Bunko Magazine.

A region free DVD player is really really cheap (my last one cost me... think it was £20). It's probably cheaper to buy the US release and a cheap region free player, than the japanese release

j-list.com sells a player that meets most people's needs for about $90. hint: totally ignore what the user manual claims about the region locks.
