sorry kiddo. Gundam has different meanings in every gundam universe/timeline/series

hell in Seed they even have different meanings for it within the show.

Traditionally, it refers to the material the armor is constructed with however, in SEED series, it is a non-sensical acronym derived from the mobile suit's intended application.

Well, the original RX-78-2 Gundam was made of Luna Titanium, and the Gundams of Gundam X were also made of Luna Titanium (Gundam X kinda being a "What if" series of original Gundam after all). Gundarium armor wasn't introduced until Zeta Gundam (in terms of UC chronology, Gundarium was introduced in Gundam 0083), and then Gundanium in Gundam Wing.

didnt they rename luna titanium gundarium to honour the rx78 after the oyw?

No, in Zeta Gundam Camille and Char/Quattro talk about how the Mark II still uses the old Gundam's armor (Luna Titanium), and Camille says his parents decided their next suit would use Gundarium. They're two different armor materials.

Not quite. They were talking about how Mark II used an *old* armor, which is the titanium/ceramic composite that most OYW suits used.

Gundarium is indeed named after the RX-78-2, whose Luna Titanium was given the name Gundarium-alpha after the war.

Oh, and acronyms for Gundams is not a phenomenon that began with CE. Other Gundam timelines had it:

brightman, where did you get the ones for FC and AC? I'd head the UC one regarding the RX-78 before, but never heard any of those other ones from any official source. Hell, they make the ZGMF series acronyms sound positivly normal...

I honestly don't remember... These acronyms were saved in my harddrive from somewhere...

EDIT: A search of these on google did turn up results in the Japanese wiki ( http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%...82%A4%E3%83%97 ), though I'm not sure how accurate it is and I don't think I got them from there... (judging from the sheer silliness of some of the elements of those two timelines though, I wouldn't put it pass them to officially come up with these types of names..)

The wiki does say that FC's Gundam was published as "Govern of Unverse Nation Decide Advanced Mobile-suit" though... So it seems they didn't even bother to get the spellings correct...

Maybe there should be a law that Sunrise is not allowed to create any more acronyms. Of course, to be fair, modern US military acronyms tend to be very ugly as well.

I don't have issues with acronyms derived from phrases but phrases made to fit acronyms never work. Sunrise seems to like doing the latter which is why they end up with these non-sensical acronyms.

I had always believed that Lunar Titanium = Gundarium/Gundanium.

I simply understood the lines in Zeta Gundam to mean that the Mark II had the same amount of armour as the Mark I. Newer suits, such as the Rick Dias, or Hyaku Shiki had much more armor. Not to mention anti-beam coating, and other countermeasures.

Atleast acronyms like TOW (Tube launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided) and HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) make sense. The US Navy is worse, take COMSUBLANT (Commander, Submarine Force, Atlantic Fleet). Most people would have no F'ing clue as to what the hell it means. Or even better, try COMSTRKFIGHTWINGLANT (Commander, Strike Fighter Wing, Atlantic).
