OMG I know I should not have laughed I mean this has got too be the most brutal anime so far too come. I mean only the first episode people were getting eaten ripped apart every 20 seconds. And I almost peed myself laughing at the girls who were all like "Omg we are BFF forever" while skipping through the zombies while holding pinkys, then the zombie grabs the leg and other one turns brutal "LET GO YOU BITCH".

Something I just noticed rewatching the OP in HD is that when the empty shell casings are falling in front of Kouta as he hefts the AR-10 to his shoulder is that the primers have actually been struck with a firing pin.
Now that's attention to detail. +1 Madhouse.

Act 1. Spring of the Dead
Highschool of the Dead. First Impressions
So, here it is the long awaited, zombie-apocalypse, anime-adaptation of the manga "Highschool of the Dead". My impressions upon finishing through all of the first episode are very positive. While it's definitely likely that is pure coincidence, the beginning or start of the first episode of this anime bears somewhat a little comparison to how the first Romero film, "Night of the Living Dead", and its first remake film shot back in 1990 began. The main characters were just living on with their average, normal lives. Performing their mundane activities just like every ordinary day, that's when something abruptly goes wrong with the neighborhood as the first person they sightsee in the vicinity is not normal, thus, beginning the ordeal of the nightmare. True to the zombie-apocalypse genre, HOTD maintains the staple and guidelines defined in other zombie works: The ever-growing plague of the zombie infestation that strikes a peaceful city without the principal cast ever realizing that the neighborhood or maybe the entire country has gone down the drain already, and all of them are left stranded to stand their ground and fend for themselves with no knowledge whatsoever as to how the plague started. Take my word, HOTD becomes a rightful member to the zombie genre dealing with the zombies' actions literally eating the living; I mean I cringed whenever I saw "them" onscreen biting peoples' arms, legs, heads, and torsos. And the violence handled well without interference of censorship or the famous but dreaded white fog. The first episode went faithfully to the first chapter of the manga, underlying the future relationships between Takashi and Rei among the other survivors that form the core of the main cast.
