If Madoka Magica was Shonen , and Kyubey's targets were adolescent boys , then the female moe depictions of Kyubey might be the form it takes. Just as mascots are integral to Mahou Shojou , mysterious waifs that empower Shonen heros are a commonly appearing trope in Shonen.
