To veer back somewhat on topic, if I remember right there was an artbook that was released in time with Rebuild 2.22? I'm not talking about Yamashita's stuff of course, but it would be a nice addition to my little library, as it's supposed to show EVA-05's bipedal concept designs. Knowing my luck though, it's probably well into the thousands of yen range... *sigh*

Not that I hate asuka, in fact I love her. I just love to hate her sometimes. Women, you love and hate them all at the same time.

Yes, Plenty of people got annoyed by the characters by the end of the show. Annoyed of Shinjis repeative whining (not like hes saying anything new) and Asukas near needless bitching. Its like shes nearly always having her period. Sheezzzz. If it wasn't for her dere dere with kaji I'd almost think she was pure evil.

Which is worst, facing angels or facing Asuka? Though choice.

Oh yay, I'm ready for the Asuka fanboy counter attack. Bring it, my "Illustrious" guardian angel Mari will protect me.

I only wish Rei had slapped Asuka instead this time. Come on, you all know you've wished you could slapped Asuka yourself at one point or another.

Still I was too shocked that Rei blocked the slapped to think of anything at that moment. I believe my jaw hit the ground in that scene. Happened quite a few times in 2.0. Part of the reason I loved it. Didn't think the movie would have anything shocking in it so it was quite a thrill to watch. I've gone an watched it several times now, something I didn't do with 1.0 since its not much different from the first 6 episodes.

To be fair, the identity of Kaji's shooter has one of the more speculated-about things in EVA, and Sadamoto's manga did NOT help matters. I always assumed it was a faceless Section 2 or Section 7 mook, but it didn't stop fiction writers over the years making up their own interpretations.

Anyhow, Asuka is more popular in the west because we like more assertive and outgoing girls, while I think the east likes the idea of the silent mysterious, somewhat meak type that you have to care for and protect.

It's kind of why the roles of our women in porn are so different.

He's not lying, though. A lot of people I met in Asia still live in a heavily male-dominated system, combined with a traditional motto of "Hammer the spike that pops on the railroad" type of deal.

While here in the states, individuality is promoted much more and outgoing is a good result out of it.

Of course in Korea, you just need to be decent looking and love Starcraft.

Asuka was never more popular than Rei in both the East and the West.

In fact I've heard alot more people who don't like Asuka from westerners, complaining she's bitch, her character is too strong for a female character, annoying etc.

EDIT: And just to mention, I'm a huge Asuka fan, basically because she is hotblooded. The first figures I ever brought were her figures. The first time I ever drew very detailed anime pics was hers and it took me over a period of 6 months to draw her and the graphite was thick enough to reflect light.

To bring up the earlier "Mari = Mary-Sue" argument: doesn't the fact that she, despite pulling out all the stops and triggering Unit-02's Berserk State, gets her ass utterly kicked by Zeruel kinda deal a blow against her being an MS? Or would the fact that Zeruel kicks everyone's ass, right up until Unit-01 becomes a demigod, undo what I just said?
