Oh yeah. It seems they want to hold back like in Unlimited. Though I wish they do a better job at it since the Monument looked awful. It seemed like a rush job with the smudge tool in my opinion. lol. Ah, I was wondering when you'll post that video. XD Last edited by Silvance; 2012-07-02 at 10:54. |

Like a few others don't know much about the Muv-Luv series so didn't know what to expect really but I loved it.
Sure not quite the big bang first ep you'd usually expect to see for such a series but this was a nice intro so far. Like what DragoonKain3 said, I like the fact there is urgency about whats going on, impending world doom is not something to take lightly but something alot of series do. In most cases you'd wish they simply done away with impending world doom as teh backdrop and set it within something that didn't require urgency. But I think I'll like this for it's take so far, it's looking grim and gruesome, can't wait! Oh and Yui is <3

Also, humanity has been in total war with the BETA for about 30 years, so all of the cadets would have been born under the current conditions. Either they were naive in assuming that the combined human armies can hold the line, or the overwhelming sense of futility means a lot of people live care-free lives like it was their last day. Normally, only the first one or two episodes are done when the show starts, and they stay "just in time" most of the way through. That said, work on any given episode is staggered over many months, so work has certainly already begun on the last episodes by now, and the story is fully outlined and largely finalized at this point. In this case, we know they had the first two ready because they showed them both at AX, but it's really rare for a show to be too much further ahead of itself than that.

When I saw the Teen Girl Squad preparing to go into battle at the end all I could think of was the Shrike Team from Victory Gundam and that they're poised to beat their record for the fastest death of an all female mecha squad. I mean that team had some experience and they went down fairly fast so I can only imagine the fate of rookies going into battle. I call Takemura and her rival there as the sole survivors of this operation, but where are they going to retreat too?

That would be an unfortunate waste unless they have another one in store for her. Some of the best dynamics I've seen in mecha shows have been between rival mecha pilots. Imagine Gundam if Char had died after the initial attack on Side 7. Don't even want to think about it.
Anyway if this is what I think it is in terms of tone I'm looking forward to the reactions from people not used to seeing regularly scheduled character death in mecha or even those not used to real robot mecha in general. |

"8 minutes. That's the average survival time of pilots during their first battle"
Oh dear the next episode gonna be bloodbath with the BETA ripping pass the defence like that. I don't expect them to survive half that average time. An enjoyable episode, I shall continue to watch this.

Yeah I know but I love my sympathetic rival characters, which is how it looked like she was being built up to be. And no it definitely isn't Gundam because if it was they'd have beam weapons and unless the BETA's are incredibly resilient they probably wouldn't have pushed humanity this much to the brink already. I'm curious to see how these mecha are going to deal with what look to be massive Ultralisk type creatures with just machine guns and heat swords. I can't really think of an effective tactic other than surround and plug away.

Where's all the young males that haven't-received / is-currently-in training for military duty? 0_o I would think they let the male kids have *some* level of training before shoving them off to war. Also, lots of older/still-age-appropriate male civilians. Shouldn't they be drafted before young girls too? |
