How can you call him a weak director when he hasn't even directed a TV show yet? He's been an assistant on a few shows though.

edit: anidb says it's a woman but wiki says Naoyuki is a male name so i don't know

I like how Shaft retained the background style from Madoka and Monogatari. This might actually get the usual Shaft treatment

You don't know how shaft works then.

Hint: Shinbo only acts as a supervisor, series directors and assistant directors do all the work.

I know that shinbo supervises , but the series director here has never been a series director for any shaft tv shows (just an OVA series), that's what I meant when I said "director".

edit: ok my bad, I thought "series direction" was a regular credit handed out in all shaft shows but it isn't

It's just for some shows.

Still,apart from the recent Sasami I quite like the track record,Zetsubou Sensei,Maria Holic, And Yet the Town Moves.

Tatsuwa Naoyuki is probably male, from the name and from the fact that I can't find his gender stated anywhere (Japanese Wikipedia usually says when someone is a woman). He directed the OVA series Katte ni Kaizou in 2011. You can find episodes on YouTube. In both shows, Shinbou is called "general director" and Tatsuwa "director." It seems to me that Shinbou has been able to infuse Shaft with his personal aesthetic, so shows look like Shinbou shows even when he is just telling others what sort of things to do, rather than doing them himself. We'll see what Shinbou and Tatsuwa can make out of this manga, which is unusual in being more usual than other Shinbou material.

My own favorite Shinbou shows are the Monogatari shows, Moonphase, Denpa Onna, and Sasami-san. Tatsuwa was only involved in the last.

Moonphase... its been ages since I last heard that manga/anime. So shinbou did it too?

my memory is pretty clouded already pertaining to that anime so i can't remember the animation of it so I can't tell the similarities.

Yeah he has a good track record aside from Sasami, don't know why the hell anyone would consider him weak. If anything Shaft could be holding him back, look @ Omata da gawd.
