No Man's Sky (PC, PS4)

At the recent VGX awards, one of the real standout announcements (in my view, at least) was for Hello Games' upcoming No Man's Sky; a quite ambitious ground, sea, and space exploration game with a massive procedurally-generated universe to play around in.

I find it interesting to see a game with such a strong Elite vibe off of it show up like this, not least since Elite: Dangerous is also in the works. How might the two games compare and contrast in their respective visions of what lies beyond?

EDIT: The official teaser website.

Looks amazing, too bad it didn't make it out already so it would have made a better best indie game instead of boring Gone Home...

Looks promising since there isn't any game out there that seamlessly connect sea - land - space. Definitely keeping my eye out for this game purely out of curiosity for the tech they are using to do this.

Looks amazing, but procedurally generated content is always a hit-or-miss. It's extremely easy to mess it up.

Even if some of the actual places are similar, the concept of just being able to explore all the worlds / places in such a connected way seems really exciting. The trailer obviously took a lot from Star Wars which also helped peak my interest cause it made it seem like awesome space exploration and Star Wars world style.

People who love to explore will love this game. For a specific amount of time I will add. Eventually you'll be seeing the same thing unless somehow they continuously add new planets/systems every day or so.

It's generated procedurally, that means technically it's always adding new planets and stuff. But you're right in that eventually, you'll start to see repeats in the variations. We can only hope they have like a thousand times a thousands possibilities or something But at the same time, we'll probably see some very messed up Alien combinations.

The new gameplay showed space combat, which really makes this the long lost other half of what Destiny could have been.

More than just space combat, they showed off their creature generator which is probably a lot more complicated to program. Still look impressive, hopefully they ll get it done eventually. I think the biggest challenge to this is probably creating a gameplay around the exploration.

The goal is to reach the center of the galaxy.

There will be some combat for your pewpew needs judging from the previous trailer, but the main attraction is exploration and finding some really crazy looking stuff... And naming it. If their mathematical function is as complex as they say it is, we should be in for a treat.

At first this to me looked very interesting, but then I get a feeling that this will just end up being a Large sandbox game with very little sand to play with.

To my knowledge this game is getting a lot of Hype for it... in 2014 hype is just silly... so many failed deliveries you'd think people would have learned. That said I do hope the Dev's deliver and do not disappoint, I for one will wait till this game is fully released before joining any hype thats for sure.

70 Questions And Answers About No Man's Sky

Quote:
No Man's Sky presents players with a practically infinite galaxy to explore. Needless to say, this raises a few questions. In an attempt to clear up exactly what this ambitious game is and isn't capable of presenting to players, Game Informer's Jeff Cork sat down with Hello Games founder Sean Murray to find the limits of No Man's Sky. If you're hungry for more, you can read our February cover story in the magazine to learn more about gameplay.

Watch the video below to hear a barrage of rapid-fire questions and answers and get a better idea of what is possible within No Man's Sky.
