As awesome as Anime Evolution 2009 was, there was one thing it lacked in comparison to AE 2008: a seven character Utawarerumono cosplay shoot.
A few notes about this group: -We had two sets of identical twins in this shoot. -The apple Aruruu is holding was part of my lunch. I suspect I might not have eaten it after, but can’t remember. -I really should have paid more attention to the background in the Karura picture. This is a rare case in which I actually didn’t take the photo myself for reasons you can probably guess. Being a huge Utawarerumono fan, I had to ask for this picture. BTW, did I mention that I also ended up meeting this cosplayer’s mother? While I’m covering AE 2008 stuff, remember that EF cosplayer who said she lost her eyepatch? Well, it turns out I do have a photo of her full Chihiro costume from 2008. Technically, the eyepatch should be on the side where Chihiro let’s her hair grow longer, but I suspect that this is the result of her not wanting to keep the patch on one eye all day. Every cosplayer I’ve talked to who has used an eyepatch has found them quite annoying. So anyway, back to the Utawarerumono cosplayers for a minute. That shoot came about as the result of so many cosplayers showing up for the visual novel panel. Since I also attended the visual novel panel this year, I ran into a few of these cosplayers again, notable the Eruruu and Aruruu pair: Yeah, I took me a bit to make the connection too. And in fact, they greeted me first because I still wasn’t sure enough about it to speak up. As a little side note, these two did a number of dances for the Nico Nico Douga panel this year. Which we broadcast on Nico Nico Douga. And we had a projector set up so we could read the comments. I’ll just say that those two are good dancers, and that a number of the English comments we got (the only ones I could read) were… interesting. They certainly weren’t all about the dancing. This Vocaloid cosplayer was also very popular with the Nico Nico commentators. Quite the trooper too: she finished off her routine despite getting a bad cough towards the end of the panel due to the fact the room we were in was rather heavily air conditioned.: And I guess that’s probably it until 2010, unless I decide to dig up more stuff from previous cons. |
