"I'm not voting Maria since she will beat Rena/Kagami anyways" I don't see why anybody would think that. I didn't really follow Saimoe 2007 too much early on but Yutaka nearly beat Nanoha so I can't see many people thinking Kagami was not a threat to Maria. Rena was the one who beat Kagami so I can't see people thinking Maria was a lock in 2008 either.

Haruka was legtimately strong enough to defeat Rika in 2008. Minami Touma managed to get within 100 votes of Rika in Round 1, Haruka being a fair bit stronger than Touma should be no surprise. The win was by a single vote, so pretty much any factor you could name could be considered a cause for Rika's defeat. I'm sure there was at least 1 person who though Rika would win with ease and voted Haruka.

Although, Western voters don't matter that much in the grand scheme of things, it's almost a guaranteed Mio win, seeing how the voters over seas are absolutely obsessed over her.

Just marathoned Saki for the sake of Saimoe and I gotta say, the fanservice is fairly contained (other than Nodoka's girls), the show is really entertaining, and Hisa is just pure love~ (Everybody else was moe too but the President is just too awesome)
