@bobobo: You can't ask where to get raws in this forum. And episode 3 isn't even aired yet.

Not especially. No offense, but they're a huge industry in one of the five richest countries in the world. I'm pretty sure they've worked on the price point/demand a little more than with a dartboard. The fact is, otaku (the primary consumer) have a ton of disposable income, they (the anime companies) make profit at the current price points, and until they stop making their profit at the current price points, there's a disincentive to lower it. Watching anime past high school is socially stigmatizing in Japan, so there's a limit to the ability to "grow" the audience. (Here's a link to kj's post about it).

But recruiting comes first, all those in favour of a Haruhi Army, please stand up!
But what should it be called? Just "Haruhi's Army"?
"Hooray Hooray Haruhi"?
"Hail Hail Haruhi"? <-- I'm leaning towards this one...
Can't really think of any Japanese based 'H_ H_' phrases...

Spoiler for Mockup for a (forced) recruitment banner...:

I pledge Allegiance,
To the SOS-dan and the United State of Haruhi
And to the anime, for which it stands,
One nation, under Aliens,
With Future Maids, and ESP for all

See, I'm torn between making up something new or just going with S.O.S. dan
The full meaning of S.O.S. has its own charm to go with it

If we use SOS then 'army' doesn't really fit does it? ^^0

edit: Tho if 'dan' is translated as 'Corps' then it would go nicely..
'dan' - group, corps, party, band, team, company, troupe.
Speaking of which, I'm really interested how they subbed SOS-dan...

Fascinating. See, I was under the assumption that the climate towards animation in Japan was more relaxed than it is here in America (which seems to have been relaxing further in recent years).

The disconnect in cultural acceptance between Manga and Anime is especially fascinating.

I wonder if fan culture will start pulling the mainstream along by the nose in Japan as its begun to in America, what with our culture eating itself.

BACK ON TOPIC AGAIN: YES! DOWNLOAD COMPLETE!

Episode 1 has me hooked, I can't wait for episode 3 to come out.

I'm sorry, was this post off-topic? I didn't mean to spam, so if I did I apologize

Well

The episode then ends with Haruhi declaring that their new club is called S.O.S, an abbreviation of Sekai wo Oeini moriageruiame no Suzumiya haruhi no dan (The Suzumiya Haruhi's club to make the world a much livelier place).
- Garten of Memento.

Now suppose if we were to expand the word "club" into say a larger organization like...an "army" per se...

Sadly I don't know the japanese word for both "club" and "army" T_T

Anyways I'm just throwing some ideas out

It looks like a.f.k. is going to be just as fast with this as they are with Karin. Thanks, guys.

As for how many eps, I couldn't see anything on 2channel or the official site, so I don't know. But in the process of looking, I found a page that bills itself as the 2channel anime board's SOS-dan activities page. Actually, 2channel has a page like this for most (all?) anime, collecting resources about the show. There are links to many pages about the show (all in Japanese), including the movement to make the ED #1 on the Oricon top hits list.

According to Sushi-Y's earlier post, 14 episodes...

Well 'dan' doesn't exactly translate to 'club' as I posted in an edit earlier...
adding a 'gun' (army, armed forces) to make it 'gundan' would make it a 'troop' or 'corps' or 'legion'... you can fudge it and say 'army' but strictly speaking it wouldn't translate that way...

Haha... I got the raw of Episode 2, didn't understand anything that went on, needed my fix, and kept watching it until I understood.

I think this is the ninth or so time that I've seen the episode in a row, and I still love it.

That was awesome. Not as crap your pants funny as the first episode, but I felt like a Hummingbird on speed throughout the whole thing!

Haruhi is like... she's like a Warner Bros cartoon character... it wouldn't seem out of place for her to dress up like a Valkyrie and start singing Wagnerian opera to a bald middle aged guy.

Mikuru continues to amuse beyond all reason.
Spoiler:

Incidental music was wonderful, animation: brilliant, color palette: impeccable, camera work: phenomenal..

On that technical note, I REALLY like whatever process their using for Depth of Field, it's very smooth and filmic.

This one's going to go down as legendary.

Wagnerian opera? Heck no! Haruhi would compose her OWN opera!
