(L) Negima Manga Discussion

I buy the chinese version mangas, and so far 12 are out *woot*
Negi (older version) is so hot!! >_< and his usual self is so cute.

Since it's been a while since this thread has received a response, here's a summary of what happened in the most recent chapters

After finding Ako, Negi, who is in "Nagi-mode", uses the watch to go back in time and spend the day with her (with Chachamaru, chibi-Chisame, and bishie-Kotarou watching on) the date includes, among various other activities, an incident where the two end up winning second place in a "Best couple" competition. After the date, the two hang out in an unused schoolroom. There, Ako almost confesses her love for Nagi, but for some reason, stops befores she says the words (and a good thing to, since it looks like Mana was about to shoot her). With that, Negi and crew return to the concert area to meet up with Madoka. Unfortunately, with the Negi, Kotarou, Chisame, and Chachamaru from the first go-round still there, the end result is a chaotic moment involving two versions of Negi, two versions of Kotarou, etc. Luckily, Kotarou comes up with a way to cover the bases so that way Madoka doesn't know the truth about what really is going on.

Once the concert ends (and Negi, Kotarou, and Chisame return to their normal ages), Negi goes back in time again in order to attend a tour of Library Island with the Library Exploration Club. Just before he arrives for the tour, Haruna, through fellow Library Club members Nodoka, Konoka, and Yue, finally finds out about magic, Negi's secret life as a wizard, and how the Pactio system work (with the answer to Konoka's Pactio item finally being answered, as her item is the outfit that she wears on the card). Thus, when Negi arrives, Haruna immediately kisses him in hopes of getting a Pactio card a la Nodoka and Konoka (of course, it fails since there's no circle). After the kiss incident, the tour begins. While Negi and Nodoka go on ahead, Haruna talks to Yue about Negi, and it's there that Haruna asks her if she has feelings for him, with neither girl being aware that Nodoka, who went back to see where those two and Konoka are, has overheard this conversation.

From the previews for the next chapter, it looks like we're going to be getting a lot of angst from Yue (and for those expecting a cat fight between the two girls: for Pete's sake, this is Nodoka we're talking about).

A what-now between Yue and Nodoka?
I guess we shouldn't be surprised, although I dislike these Harem-like scenarios. What am I saying, it's Negi and thirty girls, it's the largest Harem in the face of manga.

But I still think Akamatsu has to be careful not to let this scream plot device, and character-wise I quite agree, it doesn't 'fit' Nodoka all that well. People change in forthrightness, but their 'attitude' doesn't tend to swing 180degrees suddenly (and especially not to one of your best pals) I'm getting a bit disturbed by these age-jumps as well, bah I don't want to come across as a grinch and giving out my complaints all at once so...

I haven't read a chapter for a while (I came to the conclusion that many of the recent arcs would read better in one go, so I'm letting it all play out - that's a lie, I just simply forgot) But I'll definitely get this latest one if it's got

I sure hope Negi remembers he has a date to go and see Zazie in her acrobatic performance,

zazie still intrigues me, and nearly all the girls have had some sort of personal exprience with Negi, hopefully Zazie will be next,

lol i think asuna and chisame (lol its funny when she justifies staying young, she can sell the pics online as chiu's younger sisters) look cute when they are young =D

That's exactly what I meant when I mentioned people wanting to see Nodoka and Yue get into a catfight: unless the lady she's fighting is someone who is threatening Negi's life, Nodoka is way too nice of a girl to even think of getting into one.

I very sure that Ken Akamatsu will not forget about Zazie when it comes to the School Festival arc. As for her being next, I doubt that will happen since:

1. Volume 14 is almost over, and I don't think Ken Akamatsu will end that volume in the middle of Zazie's story;
2. I don't know timewise when the "Haruna" portion of the School Festival arc will end, and keep in mind that Zazie's performance is at 9:00 PM;
3. I think Ken is saving up Zazie for Day 3 of the Festival (just before Chao's plan goes into action).

Razer_2mb - well of course. The festival took enough time anyway. From Volume 8-14, I believe. It sorta reminds me of the long battle tournaments form Flame Of Recca, hhahaha ^_^. Well about 2 volumes was dedicated just to the tournament though. Well now it's time for Ako to shine, eh?

It's just that's she's attempting suicide at the end of the chapter (although on the YTMND site, I try to stay true to the chapter with the date, the reason for the suicide attempt, and where Nodoka can find Yue's body if the suicide is successful). As for the festival being over: sorry, but we're still on day 2 of the festival. As for Ako shining, her story happened in the chapters before the current story that's going on in Negima (the library expedition, with Haruna finding out about the world of magic, Nodoka and Konoka's pactios with Negi, and Yue's feelings for Negi).

The festival begins 1/4th through 9, which is out in stores now (and I already I have it).

This fucking festival's never going to end. This is almost DBZ long when it comes to the length of days. I'm sorry, but this is just getting stale, and I can't wait until this damn thing ends. NO, I'M NOT GOING TO BUY THE TOURNAMENT VOLUMES. YES, I'M GOING TO ERASE THE CHAPTERS WHEN THEY COME OUT IN THE US. The less I see of that arc, the better. If I do get any of the volumes, it'd only be for only two reasons:

1. They are on sale for less than $10.
2. A gift.

I refuse to pay full price for them but I also refuse to keep them on my computer.

YUE'S GONE EMO LOLOLOLOL!

Seriously, this is the most interesting thing that has happened since volume 10. Volumes 11 to 13 is the tournament, and 14 was a general snore.

Now, time for the overview of volume 9:

Compared to 6 and 8, this is angelic. This was a very unproblematic volume, and I'm surprised since I was expecting a trainwreck from the pits of Hades.

1. My brother and me thought they added word balloons for Yotsuba, but since I still have volume 9 on my computer, I checked, and they were there in the original Japanese version.

In short, they kept faithful to the "Yotsuba-san doesn't speak in word balloons" rule that Akumatsu pointed out himself.

2. Good news, everyone. There's not much stupid American slang (or any I can recall right now) or "net-speak".

3. "Eva-master" was a bit weird to see from Del-Rey, but unless you're a hardcore whiny elitist, it won't bother you very much.

4. Page 15 of chapter 77 has some Engrish, but I don't think that was intentional, but it fit in quite well with a follow-up comment. I guess that's why Asuna called him "stupid", but if you don't want to live in a delusional state-of-mind like I was during those two pages, then you can just laugh at the Engrish.

5. Neither "cousin" or "sister" were mentioned in the first chapter of the volume, so no details if they went back to "sister".


Overall, a massive improvement from the last volume. 9.7/10

-.25 point for the Engrish.
-.05 for "Eva-master" (1/20th of a point. It didn't bother me that much).

On the topic of Yue going over the edge, I don't really buy into the suicide attempt theory. Somehow this reaction seems waaaay too overdramatic given the circumstances. Going by the strap thingies Yue suddenly sports in the last few panels, I'd wager she managed to put on parachute/paragliding gear or something like that, just before Haruna managed to catch up and now uses an escape route that the others can't follow that easily (remember how Negi got conveniently locked up behind those blast doors, as he's the only one with flying capabilities of the group). I hope Akamatsu can come up with something more interesting, but I guess it's just the author doing a "Bwahaha, gotcha real good with that cliffhanger, didn't I?" type of thing.

Well, Yue is much like that. Personality wise, Yue is my favorite, then it's Chisame. Though both of them can be quite unresistable sometimes.

That actually seems more normal than what they usually do over at 2chan from what I've heard from other people. It's pretty sane compared to what they usually post about most of the time, that is, if it's true that everyone on that site are freaking nuts.

Just curious, is this one of those mangas that err ....draw in the boobs with no nipples, or are they actually drawn in?

I also heard that this one was almost censored in manga format but since there were alot of objection frm the fans they decided otherwise. Hence the shrink wrap....anyway, can anyone confirm this and lemme know about the ecchi factor? thx

No nipples on the boobs (Thank God. I personally hate nipples. They kind og look like diseased UFOs on your chest, because, you know, when I think of jerking off, I think of seriously ill intelligent life throughout the universe possibly existing, except that i don't jerk to Negima!). The ecchi factor is almost through the roof. There's not a chapter that goes by that doesn't have a boat load of panty shots. If you buy this, be prepared to be giving a barrage of asses, and if you're a pervert, I hope you like underage girls and that you're an "ass-man".

thanks Razer_2mb for the info. I kinda was hoping they'd have drawn them in. It's not a question "jerk-off" potential, it just looks so ridiculously CONTRIVED when the hair always cascades in just the right place. In fact, i would prefer if they didn't have those nude bath scenes at all cause there's always going to be something every-so-deliberatly and strategically placed in the most glaringly predictable place imagineable.

That being said, i enjoy every single panty shot considerably. ^^

Look... like I said over on the other forums, it doesn't matter when the RAW comes out, IT'S STILL ILLEGAL. Therefore, RAW discussion is just as ok as it is after monday. Which basically means "Talk, but don't link". Or something to that effect.
