Kakuzawa is quoting parts of a certain Noh play/song which has nothing to do with UFO's at all; they are old buddhist stories about adventures and encounters with demons and such (but I don't really understand them myself though). Part of Kakuzawa's text can be found here, but it may be a bit hard to read through. I haven't found out yet which Noh play exactly it is he's quoting from and I'm not really sure what it means either (I know practically nothing about Noh, and my knowledge of classical Japanese sucks), but it seems he's using this piece of classical poetry to symbolize the hardships they as Diclionuses had to endure.

Btw, did anyone notice the spelling mistakes in this chapter? 奇瑞 has the furigana きたん next to the kanji, while it should be きずい. They probably confused the reading of 端 with 瑞. And also 霞にまびれ雲に should be 霞にまぎれ雲に. Oh well, I thought it was funny as I usually never see a spelling mistake in Japanese manga. (or perhaps I just don't notice them )

Oh, and lastly, I really fail to see how it would relate better to the title Elfen Lied if the Diclonius are alien in origin. Would you care to explain why?
And also, if the Diclonius were really alien why do they resemble humans so much? (basically the only difference is the enlarged pineal gland in the brain and the horns) And how were they able to reproduce with humans?

yup it's about a srange encounter with something flying across the clouds... you know, a lot of ancient texts/poems are thought to be descriptions of UFO/alien encounters by those conspiracy theorists, and combining the text and the drawings, and that they are a sudden "monster race" that appeared out of nowhere with great psychic powers, I think it strongly hints at Diclonius being aliens

For natural evolutions, it's quite unlikely that suddenly an entire "monster race" can be evolved from humans, only to be assimilated into humans later. Kakuzawa is not really a pure Diclonius, nor is the current breed of Diclonius. I think it's implied that their ancestors from 1000 years ago looked a lot more inhuman than them.

Since Elfen Lied is a song about an elf trying to go into a human village but driven out, I think Diclonius being an entirely non-human race dropped into human society could fit the title well.

about alien/human hybrids... well, this is not a new concept right? if you are not interested in conspiracy theories, you can try start by playing the X-COM games and watch X-Files or something

Heck, there are people thinking that those "sons of God" and "Nephilim" in the Bible are referring to aliens and alien/human hybrids

The elf in the song Elfenlied wasn't really driven out from the human village, she simply bumped her head while trying to take a peek at a human wedding ceremony. Also, elfs may not be human, but they aren't aliens either; they are a different species, just like home sapiens and homo neanderthalis used to be, but homo sapiens remained and homo neanderthalis got extinct somehow.

As for Kakuzawa's text, I believe it's too farfetched to say he's implying a real alien encounter, I think you've been watching too much X-files. But it's true that due to crossbreeding the Diclonius species have lost their original abilities (except for Lucy), but the reason why some of them looked completely inhuman was because of the radiation at the place the Diclonius were driven to. I don't think that originally they really used to look that different from humans, judging from Kakuzawa's line at page 13 of chapter 86: 『角が生えているだけで我々は「退治」される存在なのだ。』.

the alien from outer space part is not explicitly said, but I think what Kakuzawa has said clearly implies that Diclonius is a completely different species from humans, and can fly in sky and move mountains and called "monster" before. I mean, I think that thing in the background drawing as Kakuzawa quoting that old poem stuff looks like some flying ship or UFO or something...

I think what Kakuzawa has said about being hunted by people is more or less about the Diclonius/human hybrid who has no special power but only horns (ie. people like him), not the ancient true Diclonius which super psychic powers.

Hmm... anyway what we can clearly get from this chapter is that the Diclonius is a race completely different from humans which more or less suddenly appeared around 1000 years ago, with great psychic powers, but as they mated with humans their powers waned over time, and later this race of Diclonius/human hybrid is only different from normal humans by having horns, who are hunted as demons and things, so they hide away under this island.

It doesn't sounds like a natural evolution from humans IMO, it's sounds like Diclonius is either aliens, or japanese youkai, or both. Actually I'd say from what's told by Kakuzawa, we can pretty much completely rule out the possibility of Diclonius being a natural evolution of humans

anyway i was wondering if the anime is continued on in the manga and if it is, what vol / chapter / bool / whatever the anime ends at in the manga. also where can i find it

The anime follows the manga storyline until the seventh volume, although it diverges greatly from that segment of the plot.

The manga continues on in the eighth volume and ends in the twelfth one after 107 chapters.

Unfortunately, the manga has to be licensed of as yet, henceforth, scanlations are provided by #Oishii-Manga & #Illuminati-Manga fan groups.
