The way I see it, Makoto has a problem that is common to all boys his age.

He mistook the emotion of lust for love. Twice.

The first time it happened was with Kotonoha on the train. Now, we all know how good Kotonoha looks, in fact I judge her to be one of the better looking anime girls that I have encountered. He lusted after her then, but being the young ignorant moron boy that he is, he mistook the emotion he felt then as love and actively began to pursue Kotonoha wth help from Sekai. The signs are all there, and the fact that he tried to get frisky with Kotonoha on their first date proves it. Not to mention he does not seem to have much expectations of Kotonoha beyond the provision of physical pleasure for him.

Now, note that he was totally uninterested in Sekai up to this point of time.

When Sekai started the thrice-damned training sessions with him, his lust had a sudden outlet that was more than willing to comply with what he wanted. Thus, this emotion became focused on Sekai rather than Kotonoha, and Kotonoha became neglected. Once again, Makoto thought he loved Sekai, indeed he had already professed his love for Sekai at least twice already. What he did not realize is that he had made a fatal mistake in not understanding his own emotions, and thinking that he loved Sekai when all he really wanted was her body.

This is what I deduced after watching up to episode 6 of School Days. I could be wrong, but considering Makoto's age, I believe I am not far from the mark.

All this, of course, does not change the fact that Makoto needs to die the most painful death possible for throwing aside Kotonoha like some used toy that he was not longer interested in. A girl that looks gorgeous and is willing to adapt herself for her boyfriend, and Makoto throws her aside for a more willing slave partner despite being the one that started the relationship in the first place?

Unforgivable. Simply unforgivable.

I mostly agree with your post, but I'll say it again; I really don't know anyone who acted like a clueless, worthless, complete, utter idiot like Makoto at his age. I expect much better of people.

His age is no justification or excuse. The guy's just a dumbass. If I was 16-17 I'd feel offended if everyone expected that little of people my age.

And don't take this the wrong way, I'm not shouting at you or anyone nor I'm annoyed in the least (some stuff may look like that when you just see letters rather than hear the person talking in front of you), just saying what I think about the subject.

Age really isn't an excuse. All of us were his age at one point. Heck, even grown adults can act like this. It's just plain wrong and unfair to the other party.

There ARE people who act like that in this world at that age.

We can honestly say he really needs to grow up, but until someone forces him to take responsibility he's going to just feign it like it's nothing. That's the problem...he's taken no responsibility for his actions at all.

Wow that's pretty merciful. A painful death? Tsk tsk tsk. Such violence is unnecessary.

He needs to be literally isolated. All of the girls needs to move on and shun him. Or even better yet, "play" with him the way he's playing them. Force him to literally beg for them and then at the last moment reject it. (I still don't see what the girls see in him but then again, this isn't uncommon in the real world).

Psychological torture is superior to physical torture.

I mean, I have never seen such a horny kid like that before. His hormone levels must be off the charts.

I have seen at least one such idiot at his age, but I take your point. Lets just say age is not a requirement to be a jerk, especially one of Makoto's magnitude.

I have never seen a character as bad as Makoto. Even the biggest bastards or losers always have some good quality, like being smart, strong, nice or at least look good, but he fails in all those categories. Having said that, I started compiling a list of reasons to hate him. You guys feel free to add to this list. Let's see if we can get the number to 101.

I'll go episode by episode.

Episode 1:

-Makoto exhibits typical loser harem male lead characteristics, including but not limited to:
1)wimpiness: could not muster the courage to tell a girl he likes her, so he had to rely on his friend to do it
2)insecurity: even after the date on the rooftop had been arranged, he was too chickened to go
3)indecisiveness: well, that one's by default, since it is a love triangle show with 1 guy and 2 guys, the guy is always indecisive
4)total cluelesness: oblivious of Sekai's feelings for him. Nobody goes that far for a friend
5)and stupidity: well, duh.

Episode 2:

-This episode shows that not only he is a loser but also an open pervert and displays it every chance he's got:
6)Tries to kiss Kotonoha in public in the train out of the blue
7)Ignores her completely during their date
8)Looks at porn magazines while he's with a girl
9)Selects a romantic movie, hoping to get some action(always let the girl choose, asshole)
10)Tries to kiss her during the movie and finally gets the slap he deserves

Episode 3:

11) Seeing as how Kotonoha is unsusceptible to his lecherous advances, he grows tired of her quickly.

Episode 4:
12) Agrees to Sekai's "special training" having only one thought in mind. Was ready to go all the way with her. Seems like he was not interested in the results of the training but only in the training itself.

Episode 5
13) Assumes Hiragi is also interested in him just because she gave him a ticket. Wake up, moron, the world does not revolve around you!
14) Uses the swimming lesson as a pretext to feel Kotonoha's breasts.
15) This does not stop him from groping Sekai's ass.
16) Openly declares his love for Sekai, without breaking up with Kotonoha first.
17) Sleeps with Sekai(aarrrghhh...how dare you)

Episode 6)
18) Openly avoids Kotonoha
19) lies to Kotonoha several times to go out with Sekai
20) Refuses to tell Kotonoha about his infidelity(of course she would get angry you coward)
21) Complains about having to cook breakfast for two(Jeez, why sleep with the girl if cooking for her is soo much trouble)
22) Acts cold and distant to Kotonoha, even though she's making a great effort to get them closer(knitting a sweater, wanting yo buy him a cellphone etc.)

Episode 7)
23) Allows Setsuna to block Kotonoha's cell phone(grow some balls, damn it)
24) Stares at Kotonoha's breasts
25) Accepts Kotonoha's invitation to the dance even though he supposedly is in love with Sekai. Fails to tell her the truth.

I like the fact that you put in the effort and made a list like that, it's a good synopsis of Makoto's actions. It would be cool if we could update it and add new stuff, as episodes progress and people add more information.

I think that disgusting look he gave Koto after she tripped, the time it took him to even bother to ask if she was okay, and his reluctance to even help her pick up the all the stuff she dropped deserves a mention of it own. How big of a jerk can you get, like seriously? That scene disgusted me, quite literally, I felt sick, that such an event could take place, even in fiction.

I think Mako is playing off of both of the girls emotions. At this point in time he knows they both have feelings for him, and he is playing both sides.

I guess what makes me most upset is that know it isn't just them hurting koto. They have dragged class mates in to it. And every classmate is acting under falso assumptions, and lies.

The only classmate that's worthy of any sympathy is Setsuna, and maybe that noisy guy, whatever his name is. Otome and her friends certainly don't deserve any sympathy, they're a bunch of, well, I won't say it, but I'm sure you know what I'm thinking.

When Koto was talking to that guy, Mako's friend, Makoto got suspiscious and followed them.

It seems he doesn't like the idea od Koto moving on. He wants both girls to want him.

As I said, this is a continuously expanding list, which will gradually grow after each episode and also from other people's impressions.

I totally forgot about the tripping incident. It was indeed terrible, the way he reacted. Any decent man would have helped the girl right away, even if she is a nobody, let alone - his girlfriend. Basically it goes to show once again that he does not care at all about her feelings and just treats her as a sexual object.

Concerning his friend Taisuke, he might not be as big of an asshole as Makoto, but he is an even bigger pervert, I dare to say. The look he was giving Kotonoha while she was trying to reach that box really disgusted me. Why could not he help her, instead of just looking at her with an open mouth.

Seriously, all the named male characters in this show are perverts. Why couldn't the producers put at least one decent manly character who could potentially beat some sense into Makoto and possibly end up with one of the girls. Shows like that give men in general a bad reputation.

Yeah, I suppose that's true. I wasn't sure what to think of Taisuke, since he appeared to be the typical loudmouth pervert who gives most school animes some comic relief, I figured he might not be that bad of a guy. He didn't help Koto, though, so you might be right about him being a bit of a jerk, or at least not were considerate.

The reason I feel he's not that big of a jerk is probably based on nothing more than the fact that Makoto is an enormous one, and his actions overshadow whatever little antics Taisuke might pull. He *is* a pervert, though, that remains whether he's a decent guy or a total moron.

Taisuke is more or less the typicl kind of pervert we see. I wouldn't put him on a jerk level yet. casue most guys do that.

However, I give him points though. Taisuke that is. Even though he liked koto, he respected the fact that Koto was going out with his friend. He didn't make a move on Koto until he thought the two were broken up.

If it had been Moko in that room with her, he would have tried something. I thought Taisuke was going to ask her to do somethign perverted. However, he only asked her to dance with him at the festival. If his only crime is staring at koto, I dont have anythign against him. People stare all the time. females at males... and males at females.

I give taisuke his props. But the fact that makes me so angry at makoto is that, hes trying to basically play on both girls hearts, getting what he wants. I mean if setsuna came up to him saying lets "practice" he would probably jump at it.

the biggest mystery with makoto is why the hell do all the girls like him. the only possible answer i can find is his looks, cuz he certainly has no class, style, personality or any attractive qualities. he has none of the characteristics of a proper harem male lead such as being a gentlemen (or just nice), innocent purity (nosebleeds in risque situations), etc.

i think sekai even kinda notices how stupid she is for falling for this idiot. besides her guilt, sekai is starting to get disgusted by makoto's actions.

speaking of his actions, i really can't stand it when makoto kisses either of the girls. its ALWAYS a deep tonguing kiss, its like he's trying to deep throat them. you can obviously see the girl is discomforted. why can't he kiss casually or sweetly like a just a peck or on the cheek? why, because he is total fail thats why.

other stuff like kotonoha tripping and the sekai butt grabbing at the pool have been addressed so ill leave that alone.

I just caught up on this today (up to ep 5, following Conclave's releases) and have to say, I really, really hope one of the girls ends up knifing him. Makoto is just... ugh. He really, really deserves to be cut. Where's a Higurashi girl when we need one?

Well we male are all a litle perv and when we look at a girl and start to like her its normal to being cuz of the lust of sex BUT THAT GUY!!! Is just toying whif girls feelings.
First he loses a buntch of time,do stuff like waiting till night for koto and makes her secure in the relationship(and at the same time its stupid enought to not see that sekai loves him too or probably he didnt even care about that),and then just cuz sekai offer him "meat" he starts craaping on koto that he lost so mutch time,in my openinion is stupid even toward himself. I can almost see the outcome of makoto koto starts to be a litle more open to mans needs and then he craps on sekai(obviously cuz sekai as no chance in sex apealing toward koto),and then for the good ending for all of us haters of matoko both of them crap in hes mouth and he ends alone eating dogs crap or whif that otome bully biatch and hes run by a car and goes to hell and is raped all days by sadam
