To be fair, it's actually looked down in many different countries. Reasons vary from religious undertones to it being sign of poverty (didn't pay the dentists to fix it) The reason Japan doesn't give a rat's ass is partially because in Japanese mannerism, it's considered polite to not show one's teeth. This is, as far as I know, unique to Japan. Due to such, shape of the teeth isn't a cultural taboo. The fangs were considered "cute" as it resembles immaturity of youth, and this culture is actually a hell of a lot older than manga/anime. Only if it has certain amount of supporters and practice. Otherwise, I can find some sick dude who eats his own shit near where you live, and claim "eating your own shit is Western America's culture". Want me to? .... Oh wait, this is precisely what FOX News does already.

Second song was about stealing another man away from his girlfriend by seducing him apparently. But in comparison against the censorship board in South Korea, K-Pop takes a lot more risks knowing their stuff could be banned and tries their best to imitate America's style. This has an effect on how it is a lot more popular in North American than J-Pop which is still rather niche because it's lack of appeal to the males over here. We don't want innocent girls, we want a "come over and play with us" girls. But then again, J-Entertainment is pretty segergrated

I don't even know if its even popular in Japan right now... A lot of people consider it to be cute, but at the same time, unacceptable if you are trying to have a real career as an actress. So, its only acceptable for anime, and young idol. After all, the older you get, the more discolored you teeth gets, and especially if you have fangs, its impossible to bleach and keep up the youthful whiteness... A lot more people in Japan are conscious about their teeth, and braces and whitening are pretty much the norm if you are from an average to higher than average family. So all the more reason why the people with fang and other crazy teeth are probably from less well off families now. |
