Orange (TV series)

Manga 'Orange' is getting a TV anime adaptation to air this Summer! The studio will be TMS Entertainment and be directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki.

Staff:
Director: Hiroshi Hamasaki
Screenplay: Yuuko Kakihara
Character Design: Nobuteru Yuuki
Studio: TMS Entertainment, Telecom Animation Film

Plot Summary:
Quote:
In the Spring she was 16, Takamiya Naho receives a strange, but detailed letter from herself, ten years in the future. At first she thinks the letter is a prank, but then the things written in the letter actually happen, including the new transfer student that sits next to her in class, Naruse Kakeru. The letter reads just like her diary entries, down to the same characters. It is not till two weeks later, when Kakeru shows back up at school, that Naho finishes the letter. In the letter, her 27-year-old self tells her 16-year-old self that her biggest regret is that Kakeru is no longer with them in the future, and asks her to watch him closely.

Crunchyroll apparently released the episode one day ahead of the premiere.

Episode 1:

The setting gives me a countryside feeling

Good artwork and I think it's obvious that Naho has an attraction or at least curiosity towards Kakeru, the new boy in town. Animation quality is good, a lot better than I had expected. While Naho isn't too special as a character, there's definitely room to develop her. I think it's the dialogues that attracted me in watching this series. The manga is good too as I've read it before but so far, I'm satisfied at what I've seen.

This was an excellent premiere. The main characters already have excellent chemistry and I imagine there will be a lot of emotions to come.

Really good start, as a manga reader I'm pleased with this. The backgrounds are beautiful, the music too, the voices fits the characters but there are 1 or 2 that didn't convinced me.

I think this is going to be a good adaptation, and as expected there are a big amount of idiots on other places calling this NTR, what a bunch of brainless chimps.

Great start. The main group seems to have a good dynamic going on and so far the story does raise some questions. I'm prepared for a possible feels trip.

It was okay, I liked the animation and the characters. However, I'm still not fully sold on it. I'm not sure this is my kind of romance series. I'll give it another couple of chances just to see.

Episode 1

This was quite interesting. The part about the letter from the future was really intriguing. In the first few minutes they showed Suwa (probably) digging out letters and handing them over. I'm guessing that not just Naho, but the others are also sending letters to the past. It is possible, unless they reveal that this is an ability exclusive to Naho. And with the way everyone else was acting, I think they either weren't the recipients or didn't take the letter seriously. And with how Kakeru was acting later on with Naho, it is possible that he is also getting something similar or knows something more than he should in a way.

Naho gets a letter from her future self with things written in such accurate detail, from the fact that she overslept to what kind of ball she'll receive when batting. Ignoring the first instruction of not inviting Kakeru results in Kakeru taking a couple of weeks off. And seeing that he wasn't playing anything hints that he has a frail constitution despite not looking like it. I don't think he was like thus from the beginning as he claims to play better football than Suwa which means that he has some disease or something which could be fatal for him if he stresses himself or something like that. Or it could be a serious case of depression. But whatever the case, in the future, Kakeru isn't with Naho and the others and since Suwa had flowers for Kakeru, he is either dead or cannot contact them or can't be with them. I'm guessing dead is the most likely situation here. Since Naho falls in love with Kakeru, but in the end has a child with Suwa, "dead" becomes a more likely case. Suwa probably becomes the one who consoles Naho more than the others probably because he ends up having a crush on Naho but couldn't get her since Naho's eyes were on Kakeru and then got the chance after Kakeru was out of the picture. So Naho's mission is to either stay with Kakeru and marry him or at least stay friends with him.

This was quite the episode. It had a lot of interesting things. Naho and friends are quite a cheerful and amusing bunch. I'm not really fond of character designs with prominent lips like the girls have here but it's not that big an issue. The backgrounds are pretty damn sugoi though. Easily the best thing about this show so far. I hope it doesn't stay like that and other parts surpass it. The OP was quite good too. Not that fond of the ED so far. Interested in seeing how things go from now on with Naho's mission being set as keeping an eye on Kakeru and following instructions properly as the consequences of not following instructions became evident with Kakeru's two weeks off. Naho will come across more paths where the letter tells her one thing to do but her heart disagrees. Will be interesting to see how she copes with situations more serious than just deciding whether to bat or not. Although it would be interesting if these seemingly small decisions end up causing way bigger changes than expected in the long run.

Impressive first episode. I was like "noooo" when Naho didn't listen to the letter the first time and as a result Kakeru disappeared for 2 weeks for a reason we do not yet know. I was utterly relieved when she decided to go along the 2nd time when she actually decided to do that pitcher thing. The premise is nothing new but nonetheless a story about correcting past regrets from years ago is definitely intriguing and I'm absolutely hooked. The revelation that Kakeru will die within the next 10 years is already quite a shock to me, I'm not sure if I want to even attempt to hope that it's possible for him to stay alive or if I should just hope that he gets to live his life to the fullest with Naho until the inevitable death happens, if it is inevitable anyway.

I really couldn't have asked for more from Episode 1.

The voice acting is spot on across the core of the cast, especially from the ever-wonderful Kana Hanazawa as Naho. Music has a unique sound/feel within the anime spectrum - it's a bit playful, bit country, bit upbeat. Visually has a great colour scheme and reflects the original art well - seeing this in full colour alone is a joy. The required feelings of nostalgia and consequence are conveyed properly.

This is how a first episode should be done - set the premise well, introduce characters through a scene/action as well as dialogue, end on a note that really leaves things ripe with anticipation for the next episode. Key aspects of Naho and Kakeru have been shown to the viewers - positive and negative - and that they mean a lot in the overall picture.

I have read all the manga but that doesn't matter to me and I'm not saying anything about it. I'm just thrilled that this is getting adapted and that so far, it's being done right. I genuinely feel that if things are kept to this standard of quality and loyal to the core parts of the source material, this will be my fave 2016 title.

It's nice to feel refreshed by a title and to eagerly count down the time to the next episode.

This show looks absolutely beautiful. The character design is particularly gorgeous.

The first episode did a good job introducing the two main characters and setting up the premise. I thought some of Naho's reactions were a bit weird: she didn't seem that shocked she received a letter from her future self, and I found it hard to believe she didn't read the whole thing straight away when she realized it was the real deal. However, it makes sense she didn't read it from a narrative standpoint - wouldn't want to spoil the viewers, would they?

The ending of the episode has me a bit worried. Naho has a kid with Suwa and they look happy enough, yet she is still trying to change the past, potentially destroying her current life in the process. Waiting to find out what her motive is exactly.

Yes. I like this one. It's right up my street. Not read the manga yet as I didn't want to spoil myself for the series, but now I've seen the start of this series I'll add the manga to my 'things to get' list for after the series is ended.

I had the feeling Kakeru was going to be doomed even before the reveal, what with his mysterious time off and his sitting out from PE.

Good first episode but this isn't my kind of romance series. I'm not into tearjerker romance types because my heart can't take that.

Liked the first episode. Will be fun to see what decisions she makes based on the letter (letters?) she gets from her future self.
