Medieval setting / Type of Weaponry
I am looking for an anime series that has medieval characteristics (Western-styled). It does not necessarily have to be set in that time frame. However, I am particularly interested in the weaponry being of western medieval (Basically, not samurai type series). I do not mind there being “Magic”. I don’t mind any particular genre; however I would like to avoid comedies. I tend to enjoy the more serious (have a meaning behind it) story lines. I really enjoyed the series Claymore and would love to have an anime series similar to that one.
What I have seen that resembles what I am looking for: Claymore What I have downloaded already and will see soon: Berserk Thank you for your time, JT |

Ignore the choices I've previous posted because those ones have a fan service comedy feel to them and that's not what you're looking for. Sorry.
Here's some great ones that meet your requirements and will definitely be worth your while! Ahem: Tears to Tiara, Guin Saga, Scrapped Princess, and Murder Princess.

If you already haven't seen Spice & Wolf, then I highly recommend that you watch it. It takes place in Medieval Europe, and it involves a little bit of romance and you'll learn a little bit about economics too. Some just watch it for the economics.
Plus, Holo(or Horo) the Wise Wolf is quite a character. |

Spice and Wolf is indeed an amazing choice, though since you specifically brought up Western-style weapons, it bears mentioning that the series doesn't have much action to speak of. A lot of exciting stuff happens, but there are few actual battles. It really delves into the setting in a way that few other shows do, and as AbZeroNow mentioned, Horo is an absolute delight.
The European medieval setting is one of my favorites, but it sadly doesn't show up too often in anime. Glad you enjoyed Claymore, I think that more than anything I should just urge you to start watching your Berserk as soon as possible.

Slayers TRY for the weapon thing but I personally think slayers NEXT is better.
So watch slayers next then slayers try then slayers. well whatever you do, watch slayers next first. This show does have comedy in it but it does have serious parts like towards the end of the series. There's some really bad ass characters. It's just a really well-done anime that mixes drama, comedy, seriousness/badassness. It's called a classic because it's really good and not just because it's old

Thank you all for the swift replies. I'll look into the many choices you have posted. I appreciate it.
I was looking into "Slayer". Didn't know there were more sequels or prequels. My friend (who got me into anime) said Fate/Zero and Fate Stay Night are viable choices. Might looking these two as well. If anymore pop into your head, please feel free to post them. I'm always looking for more. I tend to marathon my way through each series. HAHA. Cheers, JT |

Berserk is a really good starting point. F/SN and F/Z too.
Inuyasha might suit too since they have huge weapon variety, get better as it goes. Long lasting series though but finished. Romeo + Juliet is set in knight period but it's mostly swords. Sengoku Basara are samurai series but despite that they still use more than just katanas. Worth taking a look. Hmmm, maybe Tales of the Abyss? They used swords and archery in addition with some magic and technology. Tears to tiara are fully set in knight period.

The mechs are the weapons. Hence a mecha show doesn't fit the request.
