But it's not like it was a surprise that she'll probably only be able to kick his ass in the past or for comedic purposes.

Anime is thoroughly super-saturated with sword swining super girls.
I think its about time for one not to destroy all and dominate.

Kazuma looked cool too, and its perfectly reasonable to think he might be stronger than her at this point. The fight scenes were well animated and fun to watch. (far better than darker than black, only seirei no moribito is a potential competitor it seems )

I don't really see how the two can start a romance together, so if they can pull that into the story in a believable way ill be impressed.

You've never played Fire Emblem Seisen No Keifu have you. Sety in the second half of the game uses the Holy Wind Spell Holsety and he frequently has a 100% hit/dodge rate when its equipped. Wind as far as I can tell in Japanese combat logic allows for almost impossible dodging ability. In fact in FE:SNK fire was the most powerful magic, but also the slowest. The highest damage in the game came from Alvis's Fala Flame at 70 total atk per hit. Holsety maxed out at about 50 for Sety in my game. So if the show follows this logic, odd's are she's much stronger than him, but just can't land a proper hit.

well if you think about it, he fight her before as a fire user. that gives him advantage in the first fight because he would know what she could throw at him, while unless she has routinely fight wind users, she wouldn't know what he could have throw at her. It makes sense how he could have easily thrown her aside in the first few battle, but beyond that, we'll have to wait and see.

Right she may not know his fighting style, but it can't be that easy to knock the sword out of her hands...unless she was never any good with it, I mean he didn't even hit her hard in the hand and yet she dropped it. I agree, there have been quite enough bi-polar tsundere super girls. I can't agree though that this show has anything over Darker Than Black though...

What I'm wondering about is what the claw-like hand near the 20 minutes is. Some eyes light up, and suddenly some kind of energy hole appears behind Kazuma which throws some wind-energy attack which actually killed the 2 Grunts. The claw retreats in the air with some evil laugh, then Ayano arrives and thinks Kazuma killed those 2 people, while it actually was that other thing. Also, I think those eyes Kazuma saw when he woke up and in that fight, and the claw belong to some creature...but it's too early to guess what it is...

When Kazuma saw the claw, he called out to the wind spirit saying it was breaking their contract.

If that claw really was the wind spirit framing Kazuma as the killer, a possible theory is that the wind spirits are trying to start a war against the fire spirits and are framing Kazuma as a killer to that end. At the end of the episode, Kazuma talks about a war with the Kannagi family, but he also talks about being made to dance (ie, being used) by people/thjings hiding in the shadows.

Now I'm gonna assume a thing. Say, after Kazuma was defeated by Ayano and banished by his family he made contact with the wind spirit(s) and thus gained his wind power. If Ayano also got her powers from a Fire Spirit, then I wonder when that spirit will make it's move and how things will end up. Kazume is seemingly being used by the wind spirit(s), a good example is how at approximately 12:18 when Kazuma is near Ayano's household and he already killed 2 guys while he stands against that other guy who used fire on that spirit earlier. Well, they didn't show his face and the fact his wind attack had some shady aura about it (darkpurple) this time, the wind spirit might indeed just be using him to start a war like Shinji mentioned.

That's true, but I'm not sure it proves anything except that his attack is more focused than hers is. Kazuma didn't actually wipe out Ayano's fireball, he just chopped it in two and deflected both halves enough to splash harmlessly on either side of him.

On the other hand, Ayano did look like she was trying to stop Kazuma's wind blade with sheer force, and basically failed at it - but then, maybe she just sucks at defence. Her evasion skills in the first scene weren't terribly impressive either, so perhaps she's simply too used to winning with a single all-out attack.

That's true, but I can't say Kasuma can't defend really good either, at least he doesn't show that. He used a attack to counter Ayano's attack and can evade some stuff but as for his defensive capabilities I really wonder (if he has any). But since he is able to concentrate his wind powers (as seen with reducing the ghost to pieces) it seems Ayano just uses brute force but Kasuma is more tactical with his attacks

If he can focus his attack so much more, than that means he's better with his wind arts, which in turn means he should be able to pull out more power.

Just watched episode 1.

Animation is par, or even a little better, but not much farther than par. And due to GONZO's record, we shall probably see oscillating quality throughout the whole series.

Character designs are nice.

VA's are OK, except maybe for Kazuma's truly forgettable VA.

Music is meh.

The setting seems interesting.

What most surprised me of it all (and I'm shocked that no one has mentioned this yet), is the nonchalant way every character reacted towards the death of people. Even Ayano was very little moved by the deaths of those two guys.

I'm leaving this in suspense for the time being. I'm not really a fan of shounen or action-based series, but if it gets better in two episodes' time or so, maybe I'll stick around with it.

Lol, I loved that part.
I've seen too many shows where the suppossedly battle hardened warriors freak out and go emo at the first sight of what actually happens when people fight. (somebody gets kilt)

When the heir of a fire slinging mercenery clan with the motto "there is no room for the weak" and the outcast son who has a very big chip on his shoulder fight, seeing dead people should not cause them to go emo, imo.

No consequences fighting annoys me too, luckily no signs of that here.

That's probably since Ayano has already faced death in her life--remember that morning when her family discovers those 3 corpses inside a building. Those people were killed by Kazuma (At least, it seems. But I think the wind spirit took control over his body since we didn't see his eyes and his attack had a dark/purple aura that time). Ayano indeed reacts somehow nonchalant, but being a fire user doesn't mean you don't have to fight and kill I think

Lol I think that's very unlikely to happen since

Kazume becomes suspected of murder and thus has to fight against her probably several times. Though, later in the story their relationship develops so if what you heard/read comes true it would be nice
