Devil May Cry Re-boot
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tg...vil-may/704493
Developed by Ninja Theory. It has been confirmed to be a reimagined version of the Devil May Cry series. It's possible that the game will have little to no connection to previous entries in the series. The game follows the adventure of a new version of Dante. WUT?!! THIS IS OUR DANTE NOW?! Seriously? REALLY?...Come on... Spoiler for XOMG!!!:
EDIT Andy Serkis does "NEW" Dante's voice Hints here, confirmed in the trailer. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/15/ne...pcom-trademar/

Man the new look makes me feel like a sad panda.
I always loved the gothic, occult feel of the DMC series' artwork, and I LIKED the fact Dante was a wise cracking, laid back guy with a rediculously oversized sword, pistols and an attitude and heritage to boot, rather than the more typical late teen with a bad-attitude style approach. I'll re-evaluate if its good when it comes out...but man, what a way to send a series to the grave. Sure, in a reboot redesign things people didn't like too much, but for heaven's sake when will they learn NOT to fix things that aren't broken?!

Serously now guys look at this "NEW DANTE"
It has too much emo vibes all over it. It's not the same kick butt, bang bang, slash, kill demon hunter we all love and know! Jeez....even the creator is not to fond of this. http://scrawlfx.com/2010/09/devil-ma...d-of-new-dante

^ He doesn't look emo, but his design reminds me of the DMC2 Dante I've come to hate...
1) He looks dead tired without a care in the world. 2) Deliquent duds VS pro detective? I prefer the latter. Other than that, he seems to be on his way out of jail...what's everyone's opinion of a jail setting for stages? |

The new look Dante looks far too much like an emo who'd fit right into Twilight, and is more concerned at starting fights at college and his image, than an experienced, wise-cracking, demonslaying legend who just so happens to be the son of a legendary demonic knight.
No offence, but I prefered the older, experienced, master detective/slayer look, all they've done is made him look younger and fit closer to pop culture...which isn't what most of the fans of the character actually want, they wanted a funny, badass demonslayer, not someone who looks more likely to be fighting a police officer.

Calling it now, a majority of people who "hate" the new designs or focus because of nostalgia will either be swooning in love with it when the game comes out and singing praises. It always happens, except for the stubborn purists.
Honestly I played through all DMC's and found them fun (for their time of release), and I could care less about some silver haired over the top character. I would have liked Nero for that reason, but the angst and his English VA is someone I just hate to hear. The DMC storyline and characters weren't really solid to begin with, and what brought people in was primarily the gameplay. |

The entire f***ing look, right down to the hair cut starting to cover one eye and shadows/shading under the eyes
He looks like he'd fit right into the background in Twilight and no-one would bat an eyelid. The new design is almost a stereotype in it's own right. Edit: just google picture search emo...the first few pages say it all. Sorry, he's very much what would be labelled an emo around here. Seriously, compare him to the various artwork of the original Dante, and for characterisation of who he's supposed to be, the old Dante wins hands down. The entire image is wrong for what we've come to expect from Dante. Yes this is a re-imagining, but the old Dante WORKED, and was liked. As I've already said, I'll hold criticism on the game til it arrives and I can see what its actually like, but I don't like the new look Dante. I just hope they don't change the actual 'attitude' of the character.

The thing that intrigues me is Dante's new design is it's extremely unconventional. Usually most male Western video game protagonists seem to all be muscle-bound (sometimes bearded) action heroes ranging from ages 20-50 seen in so many action games and FPSs:
Spoiler for Examples:
While most male protagonists in Japanese video games all seem to be the stereotypical pretty boy bishonens and most aren't even out of their teens seen in so many of their JRPGs. As for the new Dante, he ain't exactly a muscular old man nor is he a bishonen. |
