I haven't recently read any books at all, but I'm thinking of reading the Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy after seeing the movie. Know it is a good book, but have yet to come around actually reading it through.

Just finished reading "Arc d Triomphe" by Remarque. I can't really recommend this one although it was a good book but not suitable for everyone to read.
I started reading "For whom the bell tolls" by Hemingway but its not really my style of literature and im having great difficulties with it.

The book is *significantly* different from the movie if only because the movie's humor got Americanized. The book is thoroughly British deadpan absurdist (with a separate channel for subtlety). There are three, no four, perhaps five books in the trilogy and they ramble around quite a bit, leave you frustrated with plot resolution, tangled timelines.... and pretty much is as tidy as real life

After you read the books -- you might dig up the old BBC series. It had Dr. Who campy lowbrow special effects ... but Douglas *wrote* the part of Arthur Dent specifically at the actor playing the role --- he's perfect. I actually liked the Ford Prefect actor in the newer movie better but the original Ford is quite lovely as well. And, of course, both the series and the movie screwed up Trillian completely (she's actually of indian-subcontinent descent .... not blonde at all).

I consider the books part of the "must read even if it annoys you" lexicon

@Crovax: yes, Dawkins is completely unreserved and unabashed in his opinions (he's quite funny in interviews as well).

I know. I have read the first book ages ago and, as usual, the original is better than the bastardized Hollywood version. But the movie was a nice (re)introduction to the book.

Just finished Just Americans by Robert Asahina today. It was the story of the 100th Btn and 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II, and about how they Nisei troops in that unit fought the war at home and abroad.

Going to start The Fighting First: The Untold Story of the Big Red One on D-Day by Flint Whitlock... And the title is pretty self-explanatory. It's about the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division landing on Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944. Apparently the title is kinda misleading, though, because the book extends to the end of the war.

^^ I'm currently reading "The Thin Pink Line" it's quite cute...it's about a young british women, who thinks shes pregnant, then finds out shes not but had already told everyone and then liked the attention she got, so decided to pretend shes still pregnant instread of telling everyone shes not lol its actully a bit funni, i wonder wants gonna happen in the ninth month when there is no baby lol

And, I'm also reading "Lady Chatterley's Lover" by D.H. Lawrence, It's also quite good, it's about Women in the 1800-hundreds to early 1900-hundreds i think, anyway her husband is in a wheelchair and so intuned to his work that he kinda leaves his poor wife lonely and wanting comfort, but then shes falls into an affair with someone who works for her husband. becasue of the books graphic nature the book was banned and listed as pornography (but its a classic) and the uncensored verison was not allowed untill 1960. In the beginning of the book there is a quote from the author himself "Life is only bearable when the mind and the body are in harmony, and there is a natural balance between them, and each has a natural respect for one another." i love that. Anyway there both good books and very interesting. In my own opinion ^_^

actually.. haven't really read too many books lately... though i really should, i used to really enjoy reading...

i think the last book i read was The Davinci Code... (i read it before the huplah of the movie, though, before the movie was even thought of actually) I liked the book before that though, (well it was set before that) Angels & Demons...


also the past few years i been reading "The Sword of truth" series...

waiting for the latest installment to go to paper back, (i hate hardcorvers) been a while since i checked though, maybe it's already out on paper back.... /shrug...

Been a while since I've read any good books... Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman was the last one (with a good one before it being an even longer interval). Really strange interesting book. My problem is I've become too picky, only enjoying certain stories and characters. I drop most of the books I start after a couple chapters, and most of the rest halfway through.

I just finished "Time of the Twins" by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, and I'm starting on "War of the Twins" now. Prior to that, I read the War of the Lance trilogy. I have a lot of catching up to do for all of the novels I would have read for fun due to two years of AP Literature classes forcing me to read their material.

After the Twins trilogy I'll probably start on Salvatore's "The Hunter's Blades" trilogy. I should map this stuff out at some point to keep myself straight.

One of the books I'm currently reading is Marlfox by Brian Jaques. Obviously a Redwall series book, and so far it's very good. I liked all the previous ones in the series, but i'm somewhat disappointed that Brian Jaques stopped having the books interrelated like most series do.

In any case, so far its a good read. The descriptions of food, no matter what they might be, always manage to make me very hungry....

I finished The Long Walk by Richard Bachman aka Stephen King the other day. Its similar to Battle Royale, though not nearly as good I thought. Its about 100 kids who sign up for the long walk. The rules are simple: Everyone has to walk 4mph or more, if you go below 4mph you get a ticket. After three tickets you get your face shot off. Everyone walks until their is one person left and the winner gets anything they want for the rest of their life. King doesn't really go into detail about why these kids want to do it, and some of the more developed characters get one line deaths. The ending flat out sucked too.

I started reading The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford. I loved the movie Full Metal Jacket, its been pretty good so far, moves along quickly. Pvt. Pyle is creepier than in the movie, and I was always curious how Rafter Man got his name. Joker's gun is named Vanessa! . His books are out of print, but you can download them legally from http://gustavhasford.com/. There was also a sequel called The Phantom Blooper.
