Whoa. China funds the movie only to add 4 minutes of scenes that didn't do much with the movie.

Ironic that had the Mandarin being some bad guy based in China, the funding from China would probably be better spent. And yet such a script would never have passed Chinese government approval. The watered down extra scenes are politically pleasant, but are such blatant lies that even Un in North Korea can come up with more believable lines. Seriously? Going to China for surgery? Propaganda has to be believable to work.

They scammed the Chinese government into giving them free money. Then added scenes filmed in China and with Chinese actors to full-fill the contract. Most of the story didn't even happen in China; at least with The Hobbit, it was filmed in NewZealand like it was suppose to.

It means free money from China as well as falsely advertising the increased local content to Chinese audiences.

Seriously, China got doped. With the upcoming Wolverine movie, it was actually set in Japan. But with Ironman 3 someone must have been deceived.

It does not hold a candle to the top dogs like the Dark Knight or The Avengers to me. There are way too many plot holes in the movie and the logic that they've already established in the previous Marvel films doesn't even make sense in this one. - Tony's armor crumbling like Doritos chips every time it gets in a battle. It took on alien invaders in the last film and could take on lighting blasts from a Norse God, but when it is heated to 3000 degrees Celsius it either is disabled and/or disintegrates.

- So Rhodes was in that suit for how many hours before he was transported back to Miami after a simple heated handshake disabled Iron Patriot? Good thing he wasn't fatigued from being inside all that time and was ready for a first fight once he jumped out.

- Tony is now a master martial artist, or at least good enough to infiltrate a guarded facility, take out several guards, get captured, escape, and avoid every bullet with multiple people shooting at him. Only in an action comedy does this work. Which is what we have here.

- Tony still has time to crack jokes after Pepper Potts falls to her death.

- Tony took out the shrapnel from his chest. Well that was easy. And why didn't he do that sooner? What, did the technology not exist six months before during the time in New York? Or during Iron Man 2? Didn't look like a complex procedure.

- Why is Rhodes allowed to live?

- How does clothing regenerate on the Extremis henchmen when it's burned to a crisp?

- Why can Pepper Potts throw a beatdown and destroy Killian with no form of martial arts training what-so-ever?

- Why does Maya Hansan change her allegiance after hearing two sentences from Stark?

Thanks for the info. My opinion of this movie is leaning towards the negative side now. And the things I've read about Mandarin almost being a different character don't please me. I'll fully judge this film when I see it, but right now I'm getting the impression it's lame and cheesy. The comic book film I'm looking forward to this summer is Man of Steel.

Iron Man 3 is a lot of things, but I can't call it lame or cheesy.

As for the Mandarin... You really had to see him for yourself.

Really enjoyed the movie, though a few things irked me that I'll put in a spoiler box afterwards. That being said, OMG the after-credits scene was amazing.

Didn't like how Mandarin wasn't real. They showed what was likely him in the first Iron Man movie, complete with a Ten Rings organization, yet they cop out with it here. Unless they bring in the real Mandarin in Iron Man 4 or something, I call foul.

The ending, after the fight, felt rushed and slapped together. Cure/stablize Pepper and fix his own heart in 40 seconds, just breezing through it. Did not feel complete.

The armors. Some were so amazing, but we never really saw any in close up action for more than 14 seconds. At least we're done with that ugly ass Mark 42 armor.

Assuming this takes place less than a year after Avengers...

It doesn't seem to take him long to make armor at all. He was on prototype Mark 4 in Avengers, and prototype Mark 42 in Iron Man 3. That'd be about a 10-day turnover on making armor. And in the time from the end of the movie to making the first new set of armor, there's still Iron Patriot running around.

Plus, part of the way he's supposed to have grown is that he'll spend less time on armors and more on... Pepper, I guess.

While true, it's not like he has to completely forego it. He just isn't going to use the armor as an escape from reality anymore. He is still, after all, Iron Man.

^ I thought the additional armors were in case there was a massive alien invasion again. Destroying them feels wasteful. My fiance and I watched it two days ago (premiered in Canada later than in Asia) and she felt there were more than a few plot holes.

Overall, I give it 8/10 because I love Iron Man, as a standalone I'd probably be closer to 7.5/10
