Welcome to the discussion thread for Higurashi no Naku Koroni, Episode 3.

ADDITIONAL RULES FOR Higurashi no Naku Koroni
  • Make sure you read the English wikipedia article for Higurashi no Naku Koroni before you ask questions!!!
  • Feel free to share your theories and speculations. In fact, I encourage you to do so as this is what makes this series interesting.
  • I am designating Sushi-Y and Freakman to lead the discussion in the correct path without spoilers as they have played the game in advance. I put confidence in them that they will recognize a member has spilled the beans too far if any other members has begun to play the game.
  • SPOILERS FAR ADVANCED THAN THE CURRENT AIRED ANIME EPISODE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. THIS INCLUDES THOSE IN SPOILER TAGS!!!. People tend to peek at spoiler tags; especially when they do not know such tag is meant for the episode, only to find it spilling the beans too far advanced in the game storyline.

Eh ep 3 was a lot more convincing. Although they did skip some details, it felt less "rushed" than the first two episodes. And honestly, despite having played the game, the

I agree, episode 3 actually felt a lot less rushed compared to the first 2, but maybe that's only because the story is finally beginning to concentrate on the main story instead of flying all over the place with different events.

I watched ep 3, but it was a tad too much dialogue for me to digest. Here's what I got out of it:

Spoiler:

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, each chapter (hen) features the same characters, right?

and HimeyaShop is out of stock concerning the sound novels. Argh...

Spoiler for episode 3:
But then you have to consider the state Kei-chan is currently in. They did do an excellent job in portraying the more darker tones of Hinamizawa here.

I shivered throughout episode 3. Intense.

Keiichi got it coming when he got
Spoiler:

I know it is rural Japan in the 70s and all, but for god's sake, when you suspect someone is trying to kill you, LOCK THE DOORS! Sheesh. What's so hard about that.

And why didn't he tell the cop about all the strange occurances with Rena.

Keiichi needs some major beatings.

I am beginning to suspect if Rena and Mion's psycho mode is some sort of hullucination on Keiichi's part :/ .

I dont understand why he talks to the cop.

The police officer is to me the most suspicious of all the characters.
He just knows way to much, and shows up at the strangest times.
I would tell that suspicious oyaji NOTHING.

Second, why is he being so circumspect about the needle in the anko.
If Rena did that to me I would outright demand an explanation. Maybe he should
visit her house and ring her doorbell.

And when she says he "transferred", why doesnt he challenge it?
I would immediately ask "Do you mean he's dead?" "Did you kill him?"
"Have you ever killed anyone?". They seem like perfectly resonable questions.
Heck, even "Why did you lie to me".

I get the feeling our main character does not pay attention to his surroundings,
has no ability to sneak around on his own, is very meek, and on top of all that
he is always scared. He's like the perfect victim for a horror show...

And writing notes and taping them to the back of a clock? He's begging to die
almost.

Hmmm, well she's a girl.
She's alot more dangerous if she sneaks up on you than if you go to face her straight forward.

I'd be really pissed:
"you realize I can never eat anything you cook anymore now?"
I could imagine scolding her in my broken japanese.
そんなモンもらったってどういう気持でいると思う?ひどいではないか?
おまえの料理食えなくなったではないか?どうしてくれる?
I dont know why but that one scene with the needle is just continuously bothering me.

I am not sure how scolding or confronting her would achieve much at all. She could simply claim that the needle in the ohagi was an accident. If she denied everything, what are you going to do? Unless you are willing to kill her, I doubt one can do anything to improve the situation. The way I see it, provoking a murderer is probably a bad idea and most likely will hasten your death instead.

Just because of the fact that I am pervert but did anyone else notice what the waitress was wearing in the cafe where Kei and the detective was meeting? It looks kinda cosplayish. Was that something Japanese cafe waitress wear in the 70s

So is it confirmed that Minagoroshi (points to early discussions in this thread) will be left out or are you refering to the unreleased 8th answer chapter. IMO while figuring out the mystery is fun, you said it that the story is full of twists and <1% gets it. Without all the answers and I heard Minogoroshi has lots of them, the anime-only foreign fans will be left in the cold unless we pick up the game or a kind gamer posts a summary when all of it ends. Well if they really do leave out Minagoroshi in the TV run, I hope it's because they are planning an OVA together with the final chapter or something.

You'll definitely love it as you progress through more chapters. Even after two years, reading that first scene sends chills down my spine.
