Actually, Angst Thursday is a nice tag, let's keep it. Gives us a goal.

To counter said goal:

Nanoha rocked her hips to the music as she stepped out of the shower, singing loudly. "And if you think I'm sexy, and you want my body, come on and let me know!" as she danced her way out of her bathroom, she grinned at Fate and swung the towel over her head like a helicopter before turning around and wagging her butt at Fate as she dried it. "and if you you think I'm sexy, and you want my body, come on Fate, tell me so!"

Fate laughed happily and paused the combing of Vivio's hair as the smaller girl tried to imitate Nanoha's dance. "Nanoha, you are such a dork."

The brown haired girl continued to dance over to her closet, where she disappeared, voice going into another song. "Today's music ain't got the same soul! I want that old time rock-n-roll!"

She wore the ring everywhere. When she was at work, under he armored glove while in her barrier jacket, even during showers. The simple golden band stayed on her finger always.

Fate T. Takamachi, adopted mother of Vivio T. Takamachi was crying her eyes out the first night her daughter was officially moved into her college apartment. The house they stayed in seemed so much larger now, and the annoying sounds of her teen's music and games blaring from the room were sorely missed. Now she had silence, and she hated it.

Gently she reached to her bedside and picked up the last taken picture of Nanoha, her lost lover. Killed in Action, passed in her arms, always smiling. "Nanoha," She whispered horsely as a tear fell onto the frame. "I miss you... I'm so lonely..." Pulling it to her chest, she sobbed out again and hugged herself. "Nanoha..."

The ring on her finger reflected in the light as she cried, but was soon covered by a gentle hand. The matching ring shone brightly as sparkling feathers that no one could see fell onto the large bed. Takamachi Nanoha slowly embraced Fate from behind, resting her cheek against the blond hair of her still living lover. "Don't cry, Fate-chan." She whispered gently. "I'm always with you, just look inside your heart." With those words, Fate's crying slowed and Nanoha kissed her wife's hair. "I love you, Fate-chan. Stay strong." Her white wings flapped once as she moved back towards the sky. "And I always will."

The sound of clinking glass and metal echoed in the early evening. A grunt followed by more clinking as the large, black bag was hefted into the recycling pile. Silence resumed its hold as the figure stared at the black bag.

Black...like the void.

The void...which is empty.

Empty...like how she felt for so long.

Like the black bag, she tried to fill that emptiness...that void with the substance in those cans and glass bottles. She didn't know why she started. Maybe because it was the easiest and most available way. At first it was easy to forget; to down her sorrows in the fermented fluids. Perhaps that was why she continued...it was all so easy. Day after day she drank. She drank to stop the tears, the memories from overcoming her. Sometimes the tears wouldn't stop...so she drank some more.

A bird flew by overhead. Soaring with its wings spread along the cooling breeze. Oh how she had wished to be free from the pain and fly away like that bird. She had tried to free herself from the mortal pain. Sometimes she couldn't bring herself to do it. Others...were unsuccessful. It was all too easy to blame it on the alcohol. She wasn't thinking straight. She didn't know what she was doing. But it would have all been a lie. Each time she knew what she was doing. She knew what she was getting herself in to. Her thumb unconsciously rubbed along the dull line on her wrist.

The door shut softly behind her as she entered the room. Calm eyes scanned around the room and fell upon a picture frame. It was an old picture, of happier times. Had it not been for those in the picture, she wouldn't be staring at it right now. She had pushed them away, putting on a mask to make them believe that she was alright. But they saw right through it. It was something friends seemed to be good at. She tried to push them away, like she tried to push away the pain. But they wouldn't cave in. No matter how much she screamed, yelled...and hurt them. No matter what she did they persisted and pressed on to get to her. At the time she hated them. Now...she was eternally grateful.

She sat on the bed and stared out the window at the reddish-orange sky. At the time she thought no one could have understood the pain she was going through. Now she realized she was hurting them a lot more...especially Vivio. To have to live with her in that state. To have to watch as she drowned her sorrows in alcohol. To have to watch her degrade day after day.

...to have to try and stop the blood from flowing from her wrists in the bathroom.

A tear fell. Though this was not the same kind of tear she had shed before. This was for her friends, who wouldn't give up on her. Another tear, for Vivio who stayed by her side during her darkest hours and whom she had put through so much.

Light. Her eyes wandered down to the shining object on her lap. Through all of it, it never left her finger. Even now it adorned her finger, but not as a painful reminder of what she had lost. It was a reminder of what she has to live for. The feelings were still there, that urge to join her love and hold her in her arms once again. The time would come, just not now. She couldn't go to her life this. After everything her friends had done her her, after what they helped her to come to realize, she could wait. She would live on. Then, maybe she could redeem herself for what she had done out of selfishness. She would live a full life...for the both of them. Her eyes looked out at the golden sunset. After all, what was a lifetime compared to an eternity?

"Choice! If you don't I will kill them both!" Nanoha and Vivio were floting unconsius inside that strange purple bubble

"CHOICE!!!" The sorcerer comanded once more to Fate

Fate was shaking and cring. Wich one to save? Her beloved one or her little child?

In Evangelion Xgouki's Fic

Nanoha was in her room, staring at the empty bottle of Jack Daniels in front of her, this would be her last bottle, she felt tipsy as she set it down on her bed side table. Suddenly a black vortex appeared on her wall, out stepping a hooded figure with an ominously powerful aura. In a booming voice he stated "Nanoha Takamichi, do you wish to see Fate.T.Harlaoun again?"

Nanoha couldn't believe her eyes, was she dreaming, had the Jack Daniels actually made her go nuts? still, this was too good to be true, hope was re-kindling in her heart. She couldn't afford to be broken again, she wouldn't survive if this wasn't real.

The hooded figure offered out his gloved hand, beckoning Nanoha to come forth. The brunette carefully stood up and slowly crept over to the being almost touching his hand, but stopping, afraid this was all just some big hoax. Nanoha swallowed her resolve and grasped out for the hand. Her vision blurred, everything around her swallowed in a blinding light.

In Nictory's fic
Fate was crying, now in her enormous bed sleep evading her. It seemed small when Nanoha and Vivio had shared it, but now with both of them gone, it seemed so achingly huge. Suddenly a black vortex appeared on the wall and out came a surprising familiar person.

Fates voice was lost in her throat, she must be hallucinating, not enough sleep and vision blurred through all the tears. The figure seemed disorientated, wondering where they were. Fate tried to speak.

"Na.....Na...No....ha???"

The girl looked up, like a deer struck by headlights, before she even knew what she was doing Nanoha had raced across the bed grasping Fate in a bear hug wailing like it was the end of the world. "Fate-chan!! Fate-chan!" both girls lost themselves in their tears before a booming voice echoed. "You two have each lost someone dear to you, i pray this life brings you new happiness" and with that the voice was gone....

In Satashi's Fic + Evil Ricks Fic

Fate was broken out of her crying reverie for Vivio and Nanoha by a booming voice. "Fate.T.Harlaoun, do you wish to make your choice again?" Fate looked around, the nonsensicalness of the voice didnt matter, she knew what it meant.

"I made my choice, Nanoha told me to save Vivio!!!" tears were streaming down her face.

The voice replied. "What if you could change it so you could save them both?"

"Do you think i'm stupid? the past is the past, it can't be changed!!!" Fates disposition now changed to anger at this voice tormenting her. Her sanity mattered not.

"I can take you back to when you made your choice, your past self can save your child, you can save your lover..........."

Fate watched in awe as a vortex opened up in the wall of her bedroom showing the scene of her past where she made the choice that will forever haunt her. It was exactly the same. The purple bubbles surrounding her Lover and her child. Her past self fraught with indecision. It all happened in a moment, Fate grabbed Bardiche and leapt through the portal to the past.

As soon as she arrived, a quick telepathic conversation told her past self what to do as a duel echoed cry of Jet Zanber!!! broke through the sorcerers barriers.

The sorcerer was too stunned to move, before him stood two of the TSAB's best enforcer. Older Fate pointed her Bardiche at him.

"You've caused me so much pain, i should kill you where you stand!..." The older Fate had an expression of so much hatred, it was surreal.

The younger Fate had finished checking on the previous hostages before binding the sorcerer and stepping in the older Fates way.

"Killing is not the way we do things"

"He took Nanoha from me, from US!!!"

The older fate suddenly found herself becoming ghostly pale, as if she was disappearing.

"Whats, Whats happening to me!!"

A voice echoed across the cavern, showing the hooded figure once more.

"You have changed the past, the you of the future does not exist anymore, new chapters will be written, ones not laced with sorrow"

Fates face suddenly dawned in understanding, she got her second chance, she looked at the younger version of herself.

"Look after Nanoha and Vivio, treasure them both and pray you never have to go through what i have..."

The older Fate faded out of existence as the hooded figure returned from once where he came.

I just took the Fate from your fic, who was crying after Vivio left for college. Linked it in as Fate had made the choice in Rick's fic to save Vivio and this was some years down the line when Vivio had grown up.

So in a way i kind of made your fic a sequel to ricks then i just linked them together. Heh, yeah its a little bit confusing with all the time travelling x dimension switching XD sorry if i confused you.

Edit: It was more to do with referencing the authors who did the original Angst, its not really a sequel per se. I kind of just joined them together??

Nanoha was in her room, staring at the empty bottle of Jack Daniels in front of her, this would be her last bottle, she felt tipsy as she set it down on her bed side table. Suddenly a black vortex appeared on her wall, out stepping a hooded figure with an ominously powerful aura. In a booming voice he stated "Nanoha Takamichi, do you wish to see Fate.T.Harlaoun again?"

Nanoha couldn't believe her eyes, was she dreaming, had the Jack Daniels actually made her go nuts? still, this was too good to be true, hope was re-kindling in her heart. She couldn't afford to be broken again, she wouldn't survive if this wasn't real.

The hooded figure offered out his gloved hand, beckoning Nanoha to come forth. The brunette carefully stood up and slowly crept over to the being almost touching his hand, but stopping, afraid this was all just some big hoax. Nanoha swallowed her resolve and grasped out for the hand. Her vision blurred, everything around her swallowed in a blinding light.

In Nictory's fic
Fate was crying, now in her enormous bed sleep evading her. It seemed small when Nanoha and Vivio had shared it, but now with both of them gone, it seemed so achingly huge. Suddenly a black vortex appeared on the wall and out came a surprising familiar person.

Fates voice was lost in her throat, she must be hallucinating, not enough sleep and vision blurred through all the tears. The figure seemed disorientated, wondering where they were. Fate tried to speak.

"Na.....Na...No....ha???"

The girl looked up, like a deer struck by headlights, before she even knew what she was doing Nanoha had raced across the bed grasping Fate in a bear hug wailing like it was the end of the world. "Fate-chan!! Fate-chan!" both girls lost themselves in their tears before a booming voice echoed. "You two have each lost someone dear to you, i pray this life brings you new happiness" and with that the voice was gone....

In Satashi's Fic + Evil Ricks Fic

Fate was broken out of her crying reverie for Vivio and Nanoha by a booming voice. "Fate.T.Harlaoun, do you wish to make your choice again?" Fate looked around, the nonsensicalness of the voice didnt matter, she knew what it meant.

"I made my choice, Nanoha told me to save Vivio!!!" tears were streaming down her face.

The voice replied. "What if you could change it so you could save them both?"

"Do you think i'm stupid? the past is the past, it can't be changed!!!" Fates disposition now changed to anger at this voice tormenting her. Her sanity mattered not.

"I can take you back to when you made your choice, your past self can save your child, you can save your lover..........."

Fate watched in awe as a vortex opened up in the wall of her bedroom showing the scene of her past where she made the choice that will forever haunt her. It was exactly the same. The purple bubbles surrounding her Lover and her child. Her past self fraught with indecision. It all happened in a moment, Fate grabbed Bardiche and leapt through the portal to the past.

As soon as she arrived, a quick telepathic conversation told her past self what to do as a duel echoed cry of Jet Zanber!!! broke through the sorcerers barriers.

The sorcerer was too stunned to move, before him stood two of the TSAB's best enforcer. Older Fate pointed her Bardiche at him.

"You've caused me so much pain, i should kill you where you stand!..." The older Fate had an expression of so much hatred, it was surreal.

The younger Fate had finished checking on the previous hostages before binding the sorcerer and stepping in the older Fates way.

"Killing is not the way we do things"

"He took Nanoha from me, from US!!!"

The older fate suddenly found herself becoming ghostly pale, as if she was disappearing.

"Whats, Whats happening to me!!"

A voice echoed across the cavern, showing the hooded figure once more.

"You have changed the past, the you of the future does not exist anymore, new chapters will be written, ones not laced with sorrow"

Fates face suddenly dawned in understanding, she got her second chance, she looked at the younger version of herself.

"Look after Nanoha and Vivio, treasure them both and pray you never have to go through what i have..."

The older Fate faded out of existence as the hooded figure returned from once where he came.

Box!!

The chanting from the theater full of people continued. At first it had only been a handful of scattered shouting. Then it spread throughout the mass of people like a wild fire. Their chatting echoed in the large room, directed at the stage in the front. It wasn't exactly a lie as there was, in fact, a lone box sitting in the middle of the stage. There seemed to be nothing special about said box other than the bent flap on one end.

I glanced around at the people around me. Everyone seemed to be getting into it, some even pumping their fists in the air as they shouted. Did most of these people even know why they were chanting about the cardboard object on the stage? I doubted it. They most likely just jumped on the bandwagon and went with the flow. Me? I was shouting along of course.

Suddenly the chanting faded into cheering as a spotlight lit up the small podium in the corner of the stage. A man walked out dressed in a suit with a stack of papers in his hands. Even with his gesturing for quiet, the cheering continued.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen to tonight's...maaiiinnn event!" The cheering threatened to drown him out. "I hope you all enjoyed the pre-show entertainment we had for you. It took a lot of hard work and planning to prepare Sir. Box for you." Cheers and laughter. "Yes, now let's have a round of ap..."

He cuts himself short as two men dressed in black shirts and pants run across the stage, grab the box, and run off with it. Of course this erupts in more cheers from the audience.

"Hey, where'd he go? He was here just a second ago... Wait, it must be those damn Stage Ninjas!" He raises his fist upward in a threatening manner. "Damn you Stage Ninjas!!"

I burst into laughter like many others. Oh, this guy was really good. This was his first year MCing this event if I recall and he was doing a pretty good job so far.

"Looks like we'll need to fumigate again soon. Anyway, I'm sure I know what all of you are here for this evening. So without further a due, let the Cosplay Masquerade...BEGIN!"

A few hours later, I found myself outside mingling amongst the slowly dispersing crowd. Even though the evening was a bit chilly, I didn't really notice. I was still on the natural high I usually got every time I attended an anime convention. Especially after a show like that. Man, that Gay Bar skit was hilarious! They even placed in the top 3. I couldn't help but giggle to myself as I made my way back to the main convention hall. A cold breeze swept by, sending chills up my exposed legs. Stupid forecast said it would be warmer than this. Well, I guess that's the price I have to pay for wearing this Gothic Lolita dress. It was a really cute one, too! Black with a frilly white chest piece. The sleeves were long and had wide, white cuffs with a lace trim. Several layers of petticoats helped to fluff out the modest skirt though it didn't do much to protect me from the cold. At least the matching black shoes were comfortable to walk in. Good thing I wore them in the weeks before the convention.

Back at the convention hall, I made my way over to the near empty Information Booth to check the evening schedule. Given how late it was, I wasn't surprised at the lack of people wandering around. Compared to how it was earlier, it almost seemed like a ghost town. The makeshift board at the booth showed that, as usual, the viewing rooms were still open. Late Night Hentai Room? Eww...no thanks. Being in a room full of sweaty pervs watching some tentacle flick was not really my idea of a fun evening. Now the Hot Yaoi Night on the other hand...but that was tomorrow evening. My eyes wandered across the sheet until I found the next listed event. Hmm, the dance is open until 4. Might as well check that out.

As I neared the room, I could almost feel the heavy bass against my chest. It also meant I was heading in the right direction. A lone volunteer stood manning the door to check for badges. I kinda felt sorry for him until his eyes wouldn't leave my chest. Damn perverts. Inside was dark with strobe lights and multi-colored light balls flashing everywhere. Being an enclosed room stuffed full of people dancing and raving, it wasn't too hot. Though after being outside in that cold I wasn't complaining. Looking around I noticed quite a few people had changed clothes into more loose fitting, and some I really do mean loose, clothes. Others were in various cosplays. The main floor was fairly crowded with people grinding and light sticks streaking through the air as others raved. If this wasn't an anime convention, I would be so out of place with my lacy black dress. So it was a good thing this was at an anime convention. I quickly made my way over to the outer edge of the dance group and moved to the music. There were only 2 more days until my life would return to 'normal.' So, I had better make the most of this weekend. Plus it wasn't like anyone I knew would be here.

"Nanoha," She whispered horsely as a tear fell onto the frame. "I miss you... I'm so lonely..." Pulling it to her chest, she sobbed out again and hugged herself. "Nanoha..."

The ring on her finger reflected in the light as she cried, but was soon covered by a gentle hand. The matching ring shone brightly as sparkling feathers that no one could see fell onto the large bed. Takamachi Nanoha slowly embraced Fate from behind, resting her cheek against the blond hair of her still living lover. "Don't cry, Fate-chan." She whispered gently. "I'm always with you, just look inside your heart." With those words, Fate's crying slowed and Nanoha kissed her wife's hair. "I love you, Fate-chan. Stay strong." Her white wings flapped once as she moved back towards the sky. "And I always will."

Maybe because it was the easiest and most available way. At first it was easy to forget; to down her sorrows in the fermented fluids. Perhaps that was why she continued...it was all so easy. Day after day she drank. She drank to stop the tears, the memories from overcoming her. Sometimes the tears wouldn't stop...so she drank some more.

A bird flew by overhead. Soaring with its wings spread along the cooling breeze. Oh how she had wished to be free from the pain and fly away like that bird. She had tried to free herself from the mortal pain. Sometimes she couldn't bring herself to do it. Others...were unsuccessful. It was all too easy to blame it on the alcohol. She wasn't thinking straight. She didn't know what she was doing. But it would have all been a lie. Each time she knew what she was doing. She knew what she was getting herself in to. Her thumb unconsciously rubbed along the dull line on her wrist.

The door shut softly behind her as she entered the room. Calm eyes scanned around the room and fell upon a picture frame. It was an old picture, of happier times. Had it not been for those in the picture, she wouldn't be staring at it right now. She had pushed them away, putting on a mask to make them believe that she was alright. But they saw right through it. It was something friends seemed to be good at. She tried to push them away, like she tried to push away the pain. But they wouldn't cave in. No matter how much she screamed, yelled...and hurt them. No matter what she did they persisted and pressed on to get to her. At the time she hated them. Now...she was eternally grateful.

She sat on the bed and stared out the window at the reddish-orange sky. At the time she thought no one could have understood the pain she was going through. Now she realized she was hurting them a lot more...especially Vivio. To have to live with her in that state. To have to watch as she drowned her sorrows in alcohol. To have to watch her degrade day after day.

...to have to try and stop the blood from flowing from her wrists in the bathroom.

A tear fell. Though this was not the same kind of tear she had shed before. This was for her friends, who wouldn't give up on her. Another tear, for Vivio who stayed by her side during her darkest hours and whom she had put through so much.

Light. Her eyes wandered down to the shining object on her lap. Through all of it, it never left her finger. Even now it adorned her finger, but not as a painful reminder of what she had lost. It was a reminder of what she has to live for. The feelings were still there, that urge to join her love and hold her in her arms once again. The time would come, just not now. She couldn't go to her life this. After everything her friends had done her her, after what they helped her to come to realize, she could wait. She would live on. Then, maybe she could redeem herself for what she had done out of selfishness. She would live a full life...for the both of them. Her eyes looked out at the golden sunset. After all, what was a lifetime compared to an eternity?

"Wait for just a little longer, Fate-chan."

Nanoha was in her room, staring at the empty bottle of Jack Daniels in front of her, this would be her last bottle, she felt tipsy as she set it down on her bed side table. Suddenly a black vortex appeared on her wall, out stepping a hooded figure with an ominously powerful aura. In a booming voice he stated "Nanoha Takamichi, do you wish to see Fate.T.Harlaoun again?"

Nanoha couldn't believe her eyes, was she dreaming, had the Jack Daniels actually made her go nuts? still, this was too good to be true, hope was re-kindling in her heart. She couldn't afford to be broken again, she wouldn't survive if this wasn't real.

The hooded figure offered out his gloved hand, beckoning Nanoha to come forth. The brunette carefully stood up and slowly crept over to the being almost touching his hand, but stopping, afraid this was all just some big hoax. Nanoha swallowed her resolve and grasped out for the hand. Her vision blurred, everything around her swallowed in a blinding light.

In Nictory's fic
Fate was crying, now in her enormous bed sleep evading her. It seemed small when Nanoha and Vivio had shared it, but now with both of them gone, it seemed so achingly huge. Suddenly a black vortex appeared on the wall and out came a surprising familiar person.

Fates voice was lost in her throat, she must be hallucinating, not enough sleep and vision blurred through all the tears. The figure seemed disorientated, wondering where they were. Fate tried to speak.

"Na.....Na...No....ha???"

The girl looked up, like a deer struck by headlights, before she even knew what she was doing Nanoha had raced across the bed grasping Fate in a bear hug wailing like it was the end of the world. "Fate-chan!! Fate-chan!" both girls lost themselves in their tears before a booming voice echoed. "You two have each lost someone dear to you, i pray this life brings you new happiness" and with that the voice was gone....

In Satashi's Fic + Evil Ricks Fic

Fate was broken out of her crying reverie for Vivio and Nanoha by a booming voice. "Fate.T.Harlaoun, do you wish to make your choice again?" Fate looked around, the nonsensicalness of the voice didnt matter, she knew what it meant.

"I made my choice, Nanoha told me to save Vivio!!!" tears were streaming down her face.

The voice replied. "What if you could change it so you could save them both?"

"Do you think i'm stupid? the past is the past, it can't be changed!!!" Fates disposition now changed to anger at this voice tormenting her. Her sanity mattered not.

"I can take you back to when you made your choice, your past self can save your child, you can save your lover..........."

Fate watched in awe as a vortex opened up in the wall of her bedroom showing the scene of her past where she made the choice that will forever haunt her. It was exactly the same. The purple bubbles surrounding her Lover and her child. Her past self fraught with indecision. It all happened in a moment, Fate grabbed Bardiche and leapt through the portal to the past.

As soon as she arrived, a quick telepathic conversation told her past self what to do as a duel echoed cry of Jet Zanber!!! broke through the sorcerers barriers.

The sorcerer was too stunned to move, before him stood two of the TSAB's best enforcer. Older Fate pointed her Bardiche at him.

"You've caused me so much pain, i should kill you where you stand!..." The older Fate had an expression of so much hatred, it was surreal.

The younger Fate had finished checking on the previous hostages before binding the sorcerer and stepping in the older Fates way.

"Killing is not the way we do things"

"He took Nanoha from me, from US!!!"

The older fate suddenly found herself becoming ghostly pale, as if she was disappearing.

"Whats, Whats happening to me!!"

A voice echoed across the cavern, showing the hooded figure once more.

"You have changed the past, the you of the future does not exist anymore, new chapters will be written, ones not laced with sorrow"

Fates face suddenly dawned in understanding, she got her second chance, she looked at the younger version of herself.

"Look after Nanoha and Vivio, treasure them both and pray you never have to go through what i have..."

The older Fate faded out of existence as the hooded figure returned from once where he came.

The chanting from the theater full of people continued. At first it had only been a handful of scattered shouting. Then it spread throughout the mass of people like a wild fire. Their chatting echoed in the large room, directed at the stage in the front. It wasn't exactly a lie as there was, in fact, a lone box sitting in the middle of the stage. There seemed to be nothing special about said box other than the bent flap on one end.

I glanced around at the people around me. Everyone seemed to be getting into it, some even pumping their fists in the air as they shouted. Did most of these people even know why they were chanting about the cardboard object on the stage? I doubted it. They most likely just jumped on the bandwagon and went with the flow. Me? I was shouting along of course.

Suddenly the chanting faded into cheering as a spotlight lit up the small podium in the corner of the stage. A man walked out dressed in a suit with a stack of papers in his hands. Even with his gesturing for quiet, the cheering continued.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen to tonight's...maaiiinnn event!" The cheering threatened to drown him out. "I hope you all enjoyed the pre-show entertainment we had for you. It took a lot of hard work and planning to prepare Sir. Box for you." Cheers and laughter. "Yes, now let's have a round of ap..."

He cuts himself short as two men dressed in black shirts and pants run across the stage, grab the box, and run off with it. Of course this erupts in more cheers from the audience.

"Hey, where'd he go? He was here just a second ago... Wait, it must be those damn Stage Ninjas!" He raises his fist upward in a threatening manner. "Damn you Stage Ninjas!!"

I burst into laughter like many others. Oh, this guy was really good. This was his first year MCing this event if I recall and he was doing a pretty good job so far.

"Looks like we'll need to fumigate again soon. Anyway, I'm sure I know what all of you are here for this evening. So without further a due, let the Cosplay Masquerade...BEGIN!"

A few hours later, I found myself outside mingling amongst the slowly dispersing crowd. Even though the evening was a bit chilly, I didn't really notice. I was still on the natural high I usually got every time I attended an anime convention. Especially after a show like that. Man, that Gay Bar skit was hilarious! They even placed in the top 3. I couldn't help but giggle to myself as I made my way back to the main convention hall. A cold breeze swept by, sending chills up my exposed legs. Stupid forecast said it would be warmer than this. Well, I guess that's the price I have to pay for wearing this Gothic Lolita dress. It was a really cute one, too! Black with a frilly white chest piece. The sleeves were long and had wide, white cuffs with a lace trim. Several layers of petticoats helped to fluff out the modest skirt though it didn't do much to protect me from the cold. At least the matching black shoes were comfortable to walk in. Good thing I wore them in the weeks before the convention.

Back at the convention hall, I made my way over to the near empty Information Booth to check the evening schedule. Given how late it was, I wasn't surprised at the lack of people wandering around. Compared to how it was earlier, it almost seemed like a ghost town. The makeshift board at the booth showed that, as usual, the viewing rooms were still open. Late Night Hentai Room? Eww...no thanks. Being in a room full of sweaty pervs watching some tentacle flick was not really my idea of a fun evening. Now the Hot Yaoi Night on the other hand...but that was tomorrow evening. My eyes wandered across the sheet until I found the next listed event. Hmm, the dance is open until 4. Might as well check that out.

As I neared the room, I could almost feel the heavy bass against my chest. It also meant I was heading in the right direction. A lone volunteer stood manning the door to check for badges. I kinda felt sorry for him until his eyes wouldn't leave my chest. Damn perverts. Inside was dark with strobe lights and multi-colored light balls flashing everywhere. Being an enclosed room stuffed full of people dancing and raving, it wasn't too hot. Though after being outside in that cold I wasn't complaining. Looking around I noticed quite a few people had changed clothes into more loose fitting, and some I really do mean loose, clothes. Others were in various cosplays. The main floor was fairly crowded with people grinding and light sticks streaking through the air as others raved. If this wasn't an anime convention, I would be so out of place with my lacy black dress. So it was a good thing this was at an anime convention. I quickly made my way over to the outer edge of the dance group and moved to the music. There were only 2 more days until my life would return to 'normal.' So, I had better make the most of this weekend. Plus it wasn't like anyone I knew would be here.

Chapter 2 of Fate/Lyrical Night is here!

Yeah, that's right, I'm still stubbornly chugging at this. I've come to a bit of an agreement with the story, too. I'll keep sticking to the FSN plot, after all, that's why I decided to do this. I'll be throwing my own background story in though, and the characters I'll be trying to Nanohaize as best as possible.

The Curtain Rises

I felt Lancer’s presence fade quickly; it had only be a single unsuccessful attack, and the boy had immediately withdrawn. It seemed as though he hadn’t expected a full confrontation, or perhaps his master was far too cautious. Whatever the reason, he had left, and I knew he was too fast to pursue. Besides that, I had more pressing matters to attend. Turning, I stood and faced the young girl who sat unmoving on the floor. Her long blonde hair and sharp red eyes seemed vaguely familiar, but from where I could not recall. Regardless, the command seals upon her hand confirmed that she had summoned me.

“I am Saber. I am here in answer to your summons,” I said. No doubt the girl was aware of this, but I was used to keeping up with formalities. “I ask of you, are you my Master?”

Her reaction wasn’t what I had expected; perhaps my experience had made me too accustomed to those with more initiative. Still, her wordless staring was slightly unnerving.

“W-what?” the girl stammered out.

Ah, a response. That was a start.

“It was your summons that called me, correct? The command seals on your hand are proof of that,” I stated, feeling slightly uncertain now. Her surprised expression upon seeing the stigmata confirmed my suspicions.

“I apologize, Master,” I said, and bent down to kneel to the girl. Her lack of knowledge would definitely be a hindrance to my odds of victory; nonetheless she summoned me, and was thusly my Master. By my honour as a knight, my loyalty was to her. “I am a servant of the Saber class. It would be best to call me Saber.”

“I’m…uh…F-fate. Fate Harlaown,” she replied.

“Harlaown,” I repeated. She was still obviously confused, and it was clear it would take a great deal more time before she would understand the magnitude of her situation. That time would not be now, though, as I felt a more immediate problem.

“Another Servant approaches,” I told her, and leapt through the open doorway.

I wasn’t confused, not at all. I was doing perfectly fine. It was the world that decided to turn upside down and destroy everything that made sense. Okay, calm down, just work this through. This all had some relation to magic, that was obvious. Then these markings on my hand – Command Seals – apparently that made me a…Master? And Servant…that must be what she and that boy were.

As I came to that conclusion, I immediately scrambled to my feet. She – Saber, she said to call her Saber – had said another Servant was here. That would mean she was going to fight again. I had to stop her.

I stumbled out of the storage shed just in time to see the clash of weapons from the far side of the courtyard. Saber’s pink ponytail and silver armour told me what I had expected, but her opponent…I recognized her from the school, the one that had been fighting that kid. Now that I had a closer look she appeared to be a young women clad in black, her hair looking the same shade as mine.

“Archer, retreat!”

I barely caught a glimpse of blood fly from Saber’s sword before the blonde haired servant vanished from sight. The cry drew my attention to a girl that I’d overlooked. I saw a faint red glow flash from her hand, and quickly noticed that she had markings that were similar to mine, although far fewer. About to call out to her, I realized that Saber hadn’t lowered weapon – in fact, it looked like she was going to attack the girl.

“Saber, stop! STOP!” I yelled out. Saber seemed to hesitate, but complied anyway, sheathing her sword. At least she would listen to me, something I was grateful for. I hurried to Saber’s side, and was surprised as I recognized the other girl.

“Takamichi…-san?”

“Nyaha…” she laughed nervously, scratching her cheek lightly, “And you’re Fate Harlaown? I didn’t think you were a Master too…”

She clearly understood this whole thing better than I did. She was in my year, too, so I felt fairly safe trusting her.

“Um…I still don’t really know what that means,” I said.

She tilted her head slightly to one side, giving me a dumbfounded look.

“I mean, I don’t really understand what’s happening, and then there’s all this fighting, and I was attacked – I thought I was killed – and then Saber showed up, and said I was her Master, and that she was a servant, and I have these marks on my hand, and…and…”

Takamichi just kept looking at me as everything just spilled out, a slight amount of pity on her face. When my rambling started to die she reached out and grabbed my hand, trying to pull me away. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Saber stiffen and grip her sword, and I looked over as she shot me a look of warning.

“W-wait, where are we going Takamichi-san?” I asked. She gave me a smile before explaining.

“My mentor, and the adjudicator of this war. He can explain things better than me.”

I cast another glance at Saber who returned a disapproving glare. She said nothing, though, so I decided to follow.

“Come on, let’s go Fate-chan!”

Harlaown was a liability, unfortunately. Choosing to spare another Master, and then trusting her so easily, it was foolish. Hopefully once she had been properly informed she would cease such rash decision. It was fortunate that I’d been able to subdue the other servant so quickly; although, I had found it odd how she had hesitated upon seeing me…

I was standing outside a small church wearing a heavy hooded jacket, having chosen to wait outside while Harlaown and the other master had entered. True, I’d been initially skeptical at the other girl’s intentions, but this church was neutral ground during the war. My Master would be safe as long as she stayed within it, I would not need to protect her.

With no duties to fulfill, my mind took its time to wander, recalling the last time I’d seen this city…

I walked slowly as I left the church, Takamichi slightly ahead of me. Behind me, I felt the priest, Scaglietti, watching me intently. He’d definitely done a careful job explaining the details of this ordeal, and though I had answers now my head was no less certain than it was before.

I sighed lightly as I thought to my self. The War of the Night Sky, a battle to death between seven Masters and seven Servants all to obtain something called the “Book of Darkness”. The book itself sounded entirely impossible: an artifact with enough power to grant any desire? And then these three Command Seals on my hand, which supposedly formed a contract that tied Saber to me and marked me as a Master in this war; to be able to force any command on a servant - it sounded twisted.

Still, it was his final words that shocked me the most. It wasn’t right for me to even be thinking of fighting, let alone killing. I wanted no part of this, and had said as much. He’d laughed at me, and said “Your tenth birthday is soon, isn’t it? Are you going to celebrate it the same as your birth, then?”

I glanced at Takamichi’s back as she opened the church doors. I’d seen her surprised and curious expression but she hadn’t asked anything, for which I was thankful. What did this Scaglietti know? The fire that had wiped out almost half the city ten years ago...and my birth...less than a week before…

Saber’s serious expression greeted me as I stepped outside. She seemed slightly expectant, but of what I wasn’t sure. The sun had already set, and the chill night wasn’t helping my mood any. Wordlessly the three of us started walking together, Saber and I back home, and I assumed Takamichi to hers.

“So who taught you to use magic?” Takamichi asked suddenly, breaking me from my reverie.

“Taught? I really don’t know much magic at all…but my mother, she was a magus.”

Takamichi gave me shocked expression that was becoming fairly standard in our conversations. “So you’re a novice at magic too?”

“Um…yes…?”

She looked almost ready to scold me, but a motion from Saber silenced the both of us as she looked on ahead.

“Someone’s here.”

The street was barely lit, save for a few scattered street lamps, and I could see nothing ahead of us. Saber stepped in front of me, holding the hilt of her sword, and we watched tensely.

As a figure stepped into the light, I let out an audible sigh of relief. She was a little girl, younger than Vivio, but with a smile that was just as sweet and innocent. Her hair was short and bright pink, and she was wearing heavy white and pink winter clothes. Overall, not a very threatening sight.

“You scared me Saber, I thought -”

I was immediately frozen stiff at the sight of the massive black claw that had sunk down beside the girl. My mind thought briefly about screaming at the girl to run, but she only continued to smile sweetly at us, even as a massive black dragon dragged itself into sight. Standing only on its hind legs, it was easily four meters tall and towered over everything around it.

“Hi, you must be Saber,” the girl said suddenly, giving a short bow. She gave Takamichi and I a quizzical look, tapping a finger to her chin as she thought. “Is one of you her Master?”

I was about to respond when Saber cut me off. “Who are you?”

“Oh, I’m sorry,” the girl said, her smile breaking wider. She still looked the picture of innocence, which only brought a deeper chill within me. “I’m Caro Lu Rushe, and this is Berserker.”

The dragon growled deeply, starting to lumber towards us.

“Really, Berserker?” the girl asked, like she understood the beast, “Well, okay, have fun!”

Saber didn’t wait. Drawing her sword in a smooth motion she charged, quickly closing the distance. Sword held low, she swung it upwards to the dragon’s stomach. It was faster than it looked, though, and in a flash had blocked the blade with its forearm, driving Saber back a meter through the sheer force of its swing. Its other claw slashed heavily downwards, and Saber barely blocked it in time.

I could only watch helplessly, watching as the dragon relentlessly attacked, Saber barely able to keep her guard up. Her arms were bleeding even though she had never been hit; the strength of Berserker was too great.

“Saber, no! Get back!” I yelled to her. She wouldn’t hold up if this kept going; without a doubt she’d be killed. She showed no sign that she’d heard me though, and continued to press on.

She was getting hurt, trying to protect me. She was going to die to protect me. I couldn’t let that happen, not for my sake. I wasn’t worth that pain.

“Fate-chan!” I heard Takamichi yell as I ran forward.

At the very least, if I died Saber, could find a better Master.

“So you’re awake, ne?” a voice asked quietly beside me. Painfully I opened my eyes and saw Takamichi sitting beside me, looking worried. Glancing around a little, I recognized the surroundings as my room. How did I get here?

“You had us worried.”

I tried to sit up, but my entire body felt like it was on fire as the searing pain shot through me. Glancing down I noticed that my whole upper body was wrapped in bandages, from my chest to my stomach. I felt the heat rushing to my face as I realized that it meant someone had undressed me.

“Don’t move,” Takamichi said reproachfully, “you’re hurt pretty bad. Although…you are healing rather quickly, considering. There must be a lot of magic running through you.”

“Thank you,” I managed to murmur.

“Just don’t do something that stupid ever again.”

The door to my room slid open, and I looked up to see Saber watching me. Takamichi made a small gesture and rose to her feet, leaving the room as Saber stepped over to take her place. She looked angry.

“Why did you do that?”

Her tone made it clear I couldn’t brush this off.

“I just…couldn’t watch you get hurt,” I mumbled, my chest aching slightly as I talked, “I don’t want to see anyone get hurt in front of me…I’m not worth getting hurt for.”

Saber watched me intently, never breaking from her serious look. She didn’t look like she was going to kill me herself, though, which was a good sign.

“You are my Master,” she said slowly, like she was trying to get those words to sink in, “It is my duty to defend you. As long as I am your Servant, I will protect you.”

“Let me be your sword.”

I also uploaded the story onto FF.net on Tuesday, though I'm sure most of you have seen it there already. Linky anyway.
