Well the potato famine was artificial to begin with. The nation was a net exporter of meat the whole time.

The Knight had no reason to get too excited about the potential of the potato crop. She has not seen the yield, and anyway it is not her area of expertise to know much about farming. The only thing she could realistically comment on was the taste.

but even a farming novice would realize what the impact of a crop that has 3x the yield of wheat and can harvest multiple times a year has on a society that just above starvation level. Not to mention the potato can be grown in place that Wheat cannot be.

Like anyone who is a realist, she would believe in 3X yield when she sees it.

Promises don't get you very far in the medieval days. Too many snakeoil salesman.

I dunno, you don't meet many snakeoil salesman who are accompanied by a close and dear friend such as Hero.

Yeah, because a powerful high ranking war hero would never ally with the bad guys.

You are not giving up. Aren't you.
The hero already admits that he was deceived by merchants easily. You ought to make an argument that female knight would trust the stranger on the first sight.

She wouldn't have to be a bad guy. Yuusha himself explained in this episode just how gullible he is, with the speeches he's given in the past for which he was paid a mere 15 gold. While Lady Knight's personal experience with him can probably allow her to judge that his presence means the Crimson Scholar isn't outright evil, that doesn't necessarily mean she's going to trust that he hasn't been tricked in regards to the claims about what the scholar's offering.

And Hero hasn't been duped before. Oh wait the next scene even had Hero figure out he had been duped.

The fact that Hero actually stayed with Crimson Scholar for three months after their initial contract points to otherwise compared to a one time thing with the merchants. Plus, he has already seen the results of Crimson Scholar's four crop rotation where in the beginning of the episode the villager's came to thank her personally as well. They even mention how the village elder's were surprised with the hinted potato chip.

Also Female Knight views Hero as a close friend rather than a War Hero. She even goes as far as to refuse the reward from Winter Nation because she thought it was wrong to profit over a friend's apparent death.

The fact is the Female Knight can taste the potato, but the 3X yield doesn't mean anything until the first harvest.

101 things can go wrong with introducing a new crop. Being cautiously optimistic is the right response until the claims are verified.

You could say she lost her composure after seeing yuusha.

Furthermore, they already have a crop yield with potato, so there's some result at the very least.

Leaving aside the potatoes for the moment...

I just had a realisation.

The armour the hero is offered belong to a former demon king. I can't help but notice the helmet has built-in horns. This means that former demon king must ALSO be cranial-challenged and had to compensate with a pointy helm.

It must be hard for demons born without horns to have to "enhance" themselves that way. It would be like wearing padding to make themselves look bigger.

I don’t think it’s a matter of “self enhancement” like wearing pads. I view the “horns” kinda like a “crown” in human world. Human Kings wear crown coz it’s one of the marks of kingship. It’s as simple as that. Like, if there's a human who is born with a crown on his head, it's cool. When he became a king, he doesn't need to wear the artificial one .

Also, if you read the manga so far, many (if not majority) demon species/clans don't have "built-in" horns. So, I think saying the (artificial) horns are similar to a crown is more fitting.

This interpretation is supported by the final shot of episode one - notice how Maou and Hero have left their headgear behind.

Just finished watching the first three episodes back to back. Loving it so far, but it's going to take some getting used to referring to the characters by their professions and titles.

I like how the Hero is naive (and subject to manipulation as shown in episode 3), but also is a powerful warrior and is aware of his prowess in battle that he won't have much to do in a peaceful world.

That armour looks awesome. Dark/evil armour almost always looks better than the light/heroic armour..

Off topic, but I have to ask, are the light novels available in English? Or is it just the manga that is?

A couple chapters of volume 1 are translated on Baka-Tsuki.org. I'm not sure if they Ln is still being worked on though.

I couldn't figure out why Older Sister Maid is substantially out of her dress. Unless her maid uniform's skirt is cut all the way up to her waistline...
